  1. Are you opposed to using a teaching table? I'm pretty sure the alert function works there.
  2. [hv=pc=n&s=saq6hjdqt8764cak2&n=sk984ha74da2cqt85&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1d1hdp2dp3nppp]266|200[/hv] East leads the 2♥. Plan the play. Here's the link to the actual hand.
  3. The most significant flaw in the new edition, as a teacher, is the hand editing program. I cannot get a GIB analysis while creating/playing the hands. Picking the cards for the hands is also slightly more difficult than the previous version, which was a little more condensed. As long as I can continue to access the old version, I'll have no qualms with the new one.
  4. Curious about how to bid in these types of auctions as a whole. I will provide an example: [hv=pc=n&s=saq9432ha543d7c76&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1dp1s3cpp]133|200[/hv] The question is how do opener/responder communicate their shapes appropriately when the opponents interfere after the opening and response.
  5. As part of an effort to boost attendance at the first meeting of the Duplicate Bridge Club at University of Georgia, I am looking for individuals who - Work at the university - Attend the university as a student - Know someone who is affiliated with the university The goal here is simply to get a LOT of interested people to attend at the 1st meeting (see attached Facebook Page Link) or club website. I can be contacted via email (jack.gillispie15@gmail.com) or the Facebook page. I appreciate your support! Let's recruit some college kids! ♠♥♦♣
  6. I've read Bird/Anthias' (pray I'm spelling that right) book on Winning NT leads. I'm wondering what the public consensus is specifically on leading against 1N contracts. Is it generally correct to lead passively v actively? What kind of hands would make this change, if any? Some example auctions: 1♣ 1♥ 1♠ 1N 1♦ 1N 1♣ 1♠ 1N
  7. http://tinyurl.com/y8n78p9j Your lead at T1 is?
  8. Advanced+, Expert, and World Class players: Would you be interested in committing to the next couple of Sundays (noon eastern time) with a few others to play online team matches against David Grab's team? Pam (onoway) is in need of a quality team for these folks to compete against in the context of an IAC tournament she has arranged. Please contact her with your interest.
  9. Consider the following auctions: 1♣ 1♠ 2N 3♣ 1♣ 1♠ 2N 3♠ 1♣ 1♠ 2N 3♦/♥ In which cases are responder's rebids forcing?
  10. After playing in the D.C YNABC, I've come to the conclusion that there should be some modifications in the layout of the tournament. I have brainstormed something along the lines of: DAY 1: PAIRS EVENTS (10/2:30)21-24 boards for qualifying and finals DAY 2: TEAM EVENTS (10/2:30) 6-7 board rounds for qualifying and finals DAY 3: KNOCKOUTS & AWARDS (10/2:30/5) 8-10 board rounds for qualifying and finals Additionally, I find the memorabilia (bags, name tags, etc) a bit tacky. Intuition suggests that the money spent on that could be utilized elsewhere (perhaps prize money or better quality food). I'm interested in the suggestions/commmentary of other youth players as to how to improve these tournaments. Also, if anybody knows who to contact in order to get these modifications through, please write something to that effect in this thread.
  11. I've been rereading Mike Lawrence's book on takeout doubles, and would like to fill a couple holes that need definition. Mike explains some rather obvious ideas, including - We don't play 1N - Jumps are preemptive - We don't redouble to play (ergo SOS) This fills in most of the bids necessary to get by the majority of tournaments. However, I am curious as to how the bridge playing public defines these auctions: (1♣/♦)-X-XX-1N (1 banana)-X-XX-2banana As they appear to be left without explanation in the book.
  12. Looking for a way to improve the following framework in a strong ♣ context for GCC level tournament. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Considering modifications for IMPS vs. MP as well. 1♠-P- 1N SF; Includes bal 3cd INV 2♣ 2+ FG (bal or ♣) -- Schuler Shift afterwards 2♦ 5+ FG 2♥ 5+ FG 2♠ 3-4!S <INV 2N 11-12 bal 3♣ 3♠ u/b INV 3♦ 4♠ FG 3♥ 4♠ LIM 3♠ 4♠ PRE-MIX 3N 15-17 bal
  13. I'm curious as to how I create defenses to various conventions using Full Disclosure. Can I merge all of them into one file? I tried copy/paste to see if I could make duplicates of a call, but it didn't work.
  14. I suspect this is an old topic, but... Holding: ♠Ax ♥Axx ♦AKQJTxx ♣J What do you open in a vanilla 2/1 context? Also, what methods do you have in established partnerships to - Bail in some amount of ♦ - Confidently find 3NT (or effectively sneak it) - Explore 6♦/NT

  16. I'm looking for interesting deceptive deals for a local newsletter. Anybody with good boards please let me know here!
  17. 6N S http://tinyurl.com/jdxoj4k What's the best line to make 6N?
  18. Just spitballing... Perhaps you have seen this writeup, which uses 3N to show unequal minor lengths with slam interest. I have yet to actually bid it in my partnerships, but it seems sensible enough. They give you an escape in case responder forgets, which is thoughtful. I prefer South African Texas (4♣=♥ 4♦=♠), in part because I detest Gerber passionately. Depends on your follow-ups to Jacoby transfers whether this is worth adopting or not, in addition to the potential of utilizing a direct 4♥/♠. If you give up Gerber and still want a direct ace ask, perhaps 2N- 4♠ quantitative w/ even amount of aces 4N quantitative w/ odd amount of aces But I have not pursued that issue in depth. Just find a hand that you can't bid and see if 3N/4!C works for those hands. 4♥/♠ 6+♣/♦ comes to my mind as a headache. Perhaps 3N-> 4♣ (drop or FG) and 4♣-> 4♦ (drop or FG) now you can make 4M here 4-6 Also this makes use of 4♠/4N pretty well.
  19. Nothing wrong in calling the director. So long as the board is available for inspection, I can't fathom any reason that the call would be disregarded. Some authority regulations might need to be considered (I believe ACBL's window is about half an hour after play is concluded. Not precisely sure). What might taint the call is if N-S are aware of E-W (theoretical) lack of skill, calling with a psychological intent. How a director determines this, to me, is unclear. Surely there's a forum on this somewhere. In a club setting (I'm in SE U.S), I suspect most folks wouldn't think twice about the board. It's too laid back of a setting for most players to care too much, should they have the capacity to see the blockage. In a tournament, however, where everybody is there to compete, I'd expect a majority of players to call. Most of the field is competent and blood thirsty for any IMPs/MPs at stake. As a point of interest, any good E-W can overcome the !C blockage w/ the !D9 entry, right?
  20. I've recently begun uploading FD cards into BBO via the older Windows client. It worked fine the first time. Every time since then I cannot get the cards to import into BBO. I'm not sure what is going on. Does anybody know?
  21. Hi Dennis, I too am an advanced player on BBO. 2/1 is perhaps a good starting point. It would certainly be an option to try something more exotic if you like. I'm currently reading up on Moscito 2005, just to give you an idea ;) If you are interested, I would be willing to find a time that we could play regularly. Contact me at jack.gillispie15@gmail.com if you can. I'm in the Eastern Time Zone, so that may or may not hinder my compatibility. And don't we all know how this gets in the way of the game :)
  22. I find this hand to fit the "balanced positive" and would have probably passed at the table. So, out of curiosity, what does 3♥ by opener mean in this auction? Call me "results", but perhaps this cuebid is best purposed as an unspecified slam probe. You could then get an idea of what partner's whole hand is through some kind of relay auction. That aside, I would probably continue with something along the lines of an "assumed fit" minorwood keycard auction: 4♣-4♦- 4♥-4♠- 4N-5♣- 7♣/N 4♣- RKC in ♣- a non-sufficient cannot bid 4♣ (it helps to know how this differs from the cue) 4♦- 1/4 (playing 1430) 4♥- Relay (Queen Ask, Spiral-like continuations) 4♠- No ♣Q; ♠K, possibly higher kings 4N- Relay (establishes a force to 6x, otherwise signoff) 5♣- ♦K, possibly higher jacks (here, signing off in 6♣ is no other feature) This auction reveals that responder has something like: ♠ Kx(xx) ♥ xx(x) --> Possibly the ♥Q, but it doesn't seem necessary to ask for it ♦ AKxxx(x) ♣ X(xx) -> Surely he has at least one ;) The case for 7N is that you need the clubs to play well regardless. 7N offers the lack of a ruff @ trick one. I wouldn't mind being in 6N, but 6♣ seems incorrect, unless you're in a casual club. So, 7♣ pr 7N it is. Have a whack at it ;)
