  1. The redouble should set alarm bells ringing. 2nd hand's takeout double showed support for the unbid suits so 4th hand should bid his best suit preferring length over HCPs. The spade void is invaluable.
  2. South has bid 2 suits yet North has rejected both of them. Hands that don't fit in a suit, don't fit in NTs either. South should bid 4♥ a bid says loud and clear "NTs not safe pass and let me play in my suit." 4♥ is not ideal either but it's the lesser evil.
  3. It may surprise you to learn that many people still play Culbertson for the simple reason it suits their style. The fact it's now regarded as a 'dinosaur' system is wholly irrelevant.
  4. My money would be on the defence. South leads the Q♥ North takes the Ace,and on seeing the fall of declarer's king, returns the 10♣ The defence take 1♥ 2♣ and 1♦ for -1. 4♥ is a dodgy contract for NS. It could make but would rely on defensive errors and there are entry problems too.
  5. You would overcall 1♠ on a rubbish 3 card suit??? Have you heard from your brain lately(?!) What if you become defenders and partner leads ♠s??
  6. 2♣ unhesitatingly The hand is too dangerous for NTs
  7. OMG another pseudo expert Where do they all come from(?!) <_<
  8. Are you speaking about Hitler(?) He's dead (!) And although this is called an experts forum I've yet to see anything that remotely resembles "expertism." So far all I've witnessed is egotism, bombasticity, and hot air from the so called "adepts" here. Their so called "wisdom" is actually a dangerous heresy. The advice they espouse is the ultimate horror of all true friends of this noble game. Well,I dare to challenge the bigoted dogma that is being promoted here by would be pedagogues. I love ruffling feathers of the wannabes and the aspirants and I will continue to do so. The game is bigger than anyone. If I think an "expert" is wrong I will tell them, fearlessly, directly. Experts aren't right all the time...even though there be some here that like to think so....(!)
  9. How can I be in the wrong forum??????? The title of the thread was "Serious error?" It didn't say what was the basis of the "serious error" Was the "serious error" bidding a NT slam with two top tricks missing or to double? If so, then yes to the first and no to the second.
  10. Then I would not want to be your partner. Responding on 4 pts with a void in partners suit is what kamikaze bridge players do. :(
  11. It says "provisional" on the website... I believe what I see...don't you(?)
  12. You will notice the two example hands given are very unbalanced? That could be reflected in the opposing hands All the trumps could be bunched in one opponents hand. Believe me it CAN happen It's happened to me more than once in my time(!) 26 points is a yardstick for a game contract...but that doesn't guarantee it will be bid or made(!)
  13. I checked your status on BBO Well, well so you ARE an expert...albeit a provisional one(!) :o Fair enough, but don't berate the so called "dull and ignorant" in your eyes...they too have their story....
  14. If South had support for ♠ he would have shown it instead of rebidding his own suit
  15. North's 1♠ is forcing it's a change of suit South must reply Even the rawest beginner knows that. I'm surprised you don't... and you claim to be an expert(!) <_<
  16. If partner doesn't want to play with me again, that's fine by me I'll find someone more sensible and disciplined. If partner thinks 4♠ can make he should bid it direct instead of pussy footing around with 3Spades which is NOT forcing and can be passed The rebid of one's suit, although highly invitational,is never forcing. And to carry on bidding in the face of a gross misfit is just idiotic and bizarre. It's one thing to have the misfortune to skid off the road, quite another to accelerate deliberately into a tree(!) <_<
  17. See my reply to Stephen Tu above. I defy anyone to make a game contract on the hands given. And as for being "wedded to my ignorance" it seems I'm in good company judging from the twaddle I'm seeing on this forum and that from "pseudo experts" (!) <_<
  18. Sorry but that is just total inanity. Look at these two hands:- ♠- ♥AQJxxxx ♦Q10x ♣ Kxx ♠AKQxxx ♥ - ♦xxx ♣ AJxx They are an accurate reflection of the bidding given. The partnership has 26 points but the hand is a total misfit(!) No game can be made in either hearts or spades and to bid 3NT on these hands is to go down among the dead men. Experience has shown time and again that misfits should be played as at low a level as possible.
  19. The question was after 1♥1♠3♥3♠ What does it show? Answer- it shows a big misfit and an argument developing. The bidding has all the classic signs of a tug o war. Someone has to give way...and the sooner this happens, the better.
  20. 3♥ following the Rule of 2 and 3. The hand has 7 playing tricks the requisite number for a vulnerable pre empt
  21. Pass is the only safe bid awaiting developments. If you bid 2♣ and p bids ♠ you are in another fine mess...(!) :(
  22. We seem to be missing the point here. I am all for experimentation...I didn't like transfers for a long time now I'm a convert..I hated the short club now I find it's essential when playing SAYC with 5 card majors and a strong NT. What I'm driving at is would anybody here be prepared to try a new gadget with a strange or casual partner? Remember,if you make a bid and partner does not understand it, it's YOUR fault...... :(
  23. 1NT 2♠ can be played in several ways I use the sequence to show 11+ points with no major but it can be used as a transfer to clubs or as a weak take out in spades(if not using transfers)
