  1. K♦ Safe lead. Gives nothing away
  2. Well done to South for his courageous "double" He got away with it THIS time(!)http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif I've found that there are players on here who often confuse bridge with poker. They just can't resist playing with fire
  3. The old nemesis, the misfit seems to be raising its ugly head. Partner has bid your singleton, the K♣ might just as well be an x The balance of the spade suit could be bunched in an opponent's hand. Murphy's Law The omens are not good Pass and await developments.
  4. There is an old bridge adage which says "Let the opponents play the misfits-we'll play the fits" This has the obvious signs of a misfit. You have offered two suits and partner has rejected both of them. Time to pass and let partner struggle in his 2♥ When partner bids your void be afraid,if he bids it a second time be VERY afraidhttp://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif
  5. Yes In worldwide tournaments like the "Epson" in the 1990s the hands are already pre-dealt. I really loved playing in that tournament and reading the analysis booklet and commentary of the hands by the late lamented Omar Sharif. When Epson ended its sponsorship,no other company was willing to continue it. Pity. It would have been fun to play in it again and read analysis of the deals by a world class player like Mike Lawrence,Eddie Kantar Jeff Rubens Ron Klinger or "Meckwell"
  6. In what way "conservatively"? At what level would you open? And what if partner has already passed? And would it influence your tactics if you owned the spades, the"emperor" suit? Decisions decisions
  7. Playing in a Goulash tournament you are dealt a 9+ suit What are the correct tactics to adopt? And does the rank of the suit and the vulnerability play a part in influencing the decision? Playing in goulash tourneys I frequently see these suits being opened at the one level which must surely be wrong as it allows the opponents to easily compete. I've always regarded goulashes as 'barrage" tournaments where if you're dealt a long strong suit you should bid it as high as you dare immediately with the express intention of freezing out the opposition.
  8. The rules concerning competitive bridge are the Laws of Duplicate Bridge as agreed by the American Contract Bridge League,The British Bridge League in the UK and the European Bridge League for other countries. The Laws are periodically updated. to keep up with modern trends.
  9. From the diagram, I find it hard to see how 7♠ can make Its difficult to see how declarer can avoid at least one loser
  10. Which suit is trumps? I can follow the bidding up to a point 3♣ was Stayman,3♦ denied a major. but I can see South has a four card spade suit(!) What does 4♣ mean? I need enlightenment. This game is getting far too damn technical http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif I also note from the lie of the cards in the diagram that 6♠ and 6NT are doomed to failure. So N/S are really on a hiding to nothing http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
  11. Send a message to Uday he's the boss of BBO. I'm sure he'll be horrified by your story and will move swiftly to deal with it
  12. I give the same answer as I did in Part One for the same reasons given. Anyone who takes action on the above hand after the auction given and is then severely punished deserves all that's coming to themhttp://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif
  13. I get very jittery when partner opens in my singleton suit. Anyone who bids on this hand after the auction given has a poorly developed sense of danger. PASS is the only safe option
  14. The second double must be for penalties as partner has already entered the bidding What else can it be ?
  15. As you said "Never argue with an idiot"....so I'm not arguing
  16. Two can play that game (!)http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif
  17. Columbus was ridiculed when he said the world was round. Who had the last laugh? Caruso was told by his tutor he would never be a singer He became a world-famous tenor But in a game where swell heads are in abundance, mockery and derision is be expected.http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif
  18. 1♠ 4♠ 5NT(grand slam force) 7♠ (KQ♠ held) Short and sweet replacing a funny old muddle of the previous posts(!) http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
  19. I don't 5 clubs at all on that hand. On the contrary, I berate it.http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif
  20. Unquestionably 4♠ The two doubletons point to a trump rather than a NT contract With 6 losers I want to be in game. and since partner cannot guarantee stoppers in the side suits, I need the safety of trumps. 3NT is a contract that will go down among the dead men http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif
  21. I would double for takeout which sends the same message i.e. at least 5-5 in the black suits and asking for preference
  22. The only chance is if the Q♠is a singleton so I'd cash a top spade at trick 4. and hope the queen drops. If it does then dummy's 8 is an entry to cash the KQ♥and pitch Souths two losing diamonds. If trumps split 2-2 or Qxx in either hand the contract cannot be made. That blockage in hearts is both annoying and unfortunatehttp://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif
  23. First of all I would never open NTs with a singleton regardless of pointage Until you know partner holds the Ace,the K♣ might just as well be a small one. If partner responds in a major suit, The hand is revalued as 20 points, the club king being valued as a singleton i.e, 2 points so the rebid is either 4♥ or 4♠depending on which major partner bid.
  24. What are the guidelines about opening hands that total exactly 12 points? Take these hands:- 1) ♠Axxx ♥Axx ♦Axx ♣xxx 2) ♠Kxxx ♥Kxxx ♦KQx ♣Jx 3) ♠ QJx ♥QJ10 ♦Axxx ♣Q10x 4)♠A10x♥K109x ♦QJxx♣Qx 5)♠ KQx♥KQx ♦Jxxx♣J10x Which of these hands would you open a) as dealer b) in 3rd/4th seat c) non-vul d) vul
