Sanity check on reopening

"Granted there are wasted values in the minors" Exactly the reason why you should pass. Of course, fortune is allied to the brave.. but fortune can be fickle.... -

Anyone who bids on this tawdry collection is either lion hearted or should be referred to a good psychiatrist. My conscience is clear...I PASS There are occasions when protecting partners pass are not applicable...this is definitely one of them... -
Are the Camrose matches going to be broadcast on Vugraph here? I want to follow the progress of the home teams

I didn't have any qualifications at all. I didn't have the brain power to merit going to university but it didn't hinder me in life. Winston Churchill couldn't read until his teens. Enrico Caruso was told by his music teacher he would never be a singer. H.G. Wells started his working life putting labels on bottles. Very often you just have to play the hand Fate deals you.

I looked up the Wikipedia profiles of Vorderman and Dent and, although both women are well educated and have qualifications,it doesn't say if they're in mathematics

Your PC should have inbuilt software to combat this. Press f1 for 'help' or do a search "stop pop ups"

Looking for a BBO partner, SAYC modified
PhilG007 replied to jcraig9218's topic in Find a Partner/Teacher!
Can I offer you some advice my friend? It's never a good idea for a fledgling partnership to try out too many gadgets in the beginning as it increases the likelihood of one partner forgetting what a convention means when it crops up. Start out with a basic simple system and,if the partnership does progress, other devices can be added by mutual agreement in the fullness of time. -
bidding a long suit

I would open 6♥direct I treat hands like this as a goulash deal. My philosophy is not what I can make, but what the opponents can make. Opening 6♥immediately puts maximum pressure on the opponents right at the start. -
I read the link provided. I like Larry Cohen...he is an excellent player...but he is not Messianic. He devised the "Law of Total Tricks" but this was challenged by another grandmaster,Mike Lawrence in his excellent book "I Fought The Law of Total Tricks" This proves that no theory is set in stone.

Opening 2NT on the example hand is an abomination. The hand is way too unbalanced. And as for rebiddng2NT,well, the Yeti obviously didn't read my earlier post(!)

2NT rebid on the South hand would show a spade stop which as can be seen is a total untruth. Just because the enemy haven't bid spades doesn't mean they don't hold them and if they lead them, you're down before you even get started(!) Partner MIGHT just hold a spade stopper for his bid but I've learned through bitter experience not to put cards in partner's hand(!) :(
-
I would rebid 3 diamonds. The low spade doubleton inhibits me from bidding no trumps. Partner has,so far only indicated 6 hcps. Combined total suggests a game contract is feasible but not guaranteed. It's a common misconception that 25-26 pts should produce a game. This is not so. I could produce many hands with this total and no game contract is possible. 3 diamonds is quite sufficent as a rebid on the example hand. It is a game invite, not a demand. Partner is free to pass if minimum.

ATB - decent slam missed
PhilG007 replied to Jinksy's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
What system are you playing that shows this(?) Come to think of it, the opening poster didn't mention what bidding system was being used. I was assuming it was SA the dominant system here on BBO -

IMHO North is the villain here. I consider his hand far too good for a mere 1 heart opening. I would open 2 clubs holding the North cards immediately proclaiming a very powerful hand. This would embolden South into action knowing there was a powerhouse facing him. The bidding could go 2♣3♠ 4♥ ends. If 12 tricks were made,it wouldn't make any difference. The majority of the field would settle for game rather than risk a dodgy slam which would give a horrendous score if it failed. -
9♣ If you're going to make any tricks,it will be with the red kings.

Where to end up and how to get there ?
PhilG007 replied to Cyberyeti's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
This deal is a total misfit despite the combined 26 points. And misfits should be handled with great care. Right away No Trumps should be ruled out because of the mutual unbalanced hands. I think that North should show the spades first over the 2club overcall then show the diamonds over partner's 2NT. The final contract should be either 4Hearts or 4Spades but it's dodgy either way. -
If the TD is summoned while the deal is still active,he/she can award an adjusted score. This means the guilty side won't profit from their misdemeanor.
