  1. Thanks for your unprofessional and bias reply. I'll seek my answers with somebody who isn't going to sit there and bleed his gums about how masterpoints are of no value. To me, they are, I started bridge at 15 and got away and was never given the chance to be involved in the sex, the drugs and the alcohol, not to mention other bad habits that teenagers pick up, I found picking up a hand at the bridge table was more fun than anything else in the world, even hanging with my friends. I am currently 20 and I became a life master at 19 and from going around the world, and grudging it out with pick up partners to earn my gold card. I never once hired a professional and 95% of the time, I was the better player of the partnership. I earned my status, I didn't buy it, and I would thank you not to insult the game in such a manner. Some of us enjoy trying to rank themselves in the top lists, grab trophies in special events and gain some status. This is the only "sport" where the worst players can play against the best players and this is the only game where anybody of any age can acquire a rank, a meaning in life, a status to call their own. This game encouraged me and now I am a director and I teach bridge to others. But if there were not masterpoints, I don't think I would have played as much, because there would be nothing for me to look back on and say "I did it"
  2. What is in place to prevent somebody from using another player's ACBL number. Why this would be bad is because you could just get an Expert or even a group of people to all use the same ACBL number to help you achieve points. There should be a barrier in place to prevent this from happening.
  3. I am a director for my local club and a TD for BBO. Hestitation at a local club is thrown in to factor during an auction, however for online play, you simply can't factor it in to your ruling. Hestiations could be anything, me typing this as we speak and it's my turn to bid, or in the bathroom, or getting a drink or perhaps bad connection. As for the other questions, yes, directors can give themselves a ruling, I've done it before. However, nothing was to be ruled, the NS -800 would stand if I was directing, especially with the skip bid, unless the hand that doubled had nothing.
  4. Yes, I for one encourage tournament directors to disallow kibitizers. People cheat all of the time, whether or not we see it is another thing and disallowing kibitizers makes it easier for us TDs to make sure fairness is played out.
  5. 1NT is the "normal" bid in this case, however 2 Clubs does NOT have to be alerted. He has clubs, it is not weak (8 HCP), now if it was below 8 HCP, I would say alert is needed to say "could be weak"
  6. Individual games in the past, whether it be tournament or local club has always been the assumption that when you play you are either playing Standard or 2/1, nothing else. Don't even bother asking what system you want to use when you play with somebody in one of these types of tournaments, you should always be playing Standard unless they have a profile that you may be interested in playing, then ask them to play that.
  7. Why would you play in an ACBL tournament without an ACBL membership in the first place? That's just silly. In terms of your director problem. A lot of directors make decisions based on how they interupt the information you gave them, how they communicate, etc. There was obviously some miscommunication involved. It happens. Now in terms of the Dutch player. There are plenty of websites out there including acbl.org that gives players information on guidelines and rules. Before bashing the ACBL and saying you won't play in one of their tournaments anymore, consider educating yourself on the GCC and giving it another try.
  8. Alright...restricted games are getting out of hand. I log on to BBO to check out the tournaments, 95% of them have a restriction on them that allows almost everyone not to join the game, and then the ones that are not restricted are not going to be playing for over 24 hours! This is stupid! We should change the way things can be limited, because I find I can't even play in a tournament anymore, because of the amount of restricted games being opened. For every 20 restricted games, there is 1 unrestricted game and usually I miss it, because I work 5 days a week. Ridiciulous. At least I know when I create a tournament, I won't be restricting it.
  9. the tourney clock does not go down 10 hours, then 9 hours, 59 minutes, etc. it only goes based on hours.
  10. first off, multi was not developed to be used on a hand like that second of all, pass the second double, you have already killed the cat.
  11. i'm not exactly sure what they were thinking to make it to 7C, they were scared of the two singletons or perhaps a bad split in clubs if you only hold 2. You have A of clubs, opposite king, queen...TEN, no jack, so no 7NT I guess. However, in 7C, you have the same problem with the split, so in honesty, I haven't a clue why they would not be in 7NT, lol. So only way is to go slower, ask for kings, find 7NT, but I think even if partner showed 1 or 2 kings, I may still give it a try, he opened 2NT and shows 20-21, with his 3 aces, he has only shown me 12 of his points, he has 8-9 somewhere, so if he shows no kings, I know he has to have 8-9 in the rest, which is very likely to be the J of clubs (great!) or the Q of diamonds.
  12. I think this reasoning is invalid. If 4S makes, you loose to the game bidders whatever you do. If it does not make, you win against them anyway (I doubt you will find a way to go down in 2♠ :D ) So you should just ignore the game bidders and play against everyone who is in a part score, too. I agree with that. If everyone bid game here, you are already dead. But if some or most did not, you will want to maximize the trick taking and others will be thinking the same as you, so go for 10 tricks.
  13. I noticed with the beta of 3.6.0 out, you have a spot in the tournaments for entry fee and you have a spot to buy BB$. Does that now mean you are requiring people to pay to play in the tournaments or what? As a fellow TD, I am just curious on the matter.
  14. I just noticed in Creating a Tournament, there is a new option for Survivor and has a %. What exactly is that type of movement? Can you explain? Thanks
  15. Good stuff uday, I'll give it a whirl and see what I think of it.
