Break-off poll from an earlier discussion.
jdulmage replied to jtfanclub's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
OOPS! LOL. If it's opening, then yeah, I would be bidding it up to 3NT. -
You could have 3 potential winners for partner, maybe even 4, all sitting in spades. But you have nothing outside, so 2♣ is not happening, I would just bid 2NT and watch the rest unfold.
-
After 1♣: a) I would bid 2♥, playing in no trump is NOT going to happen unless partner happens to have 3 spades to the KJx or something. B - Bid 1NT, I don't like it, but what can you do, 2♦ is a reverse and 2♣ is flat out lying. c) Believe it or not, I am tempted to pass. Partner has denied a 4 card suit, so he has less than 3 or less spades and I have a singleton. Surely in no trump, they will attack the spades so unless I can pick up 8 tricks in the minors and my ace of spades in time to hold the fort, I am toast. PASS on a good day, 2NT on a bad day. For 1NT: I would most likely bid 4♣, for the same reason as my "c)" answer. They must have a pile of spades and outside entries to boot. I'm going to get destroyed. For 1♦ open: I would bid 2♣, easily, I now have room to show both minors.

To 1♣: I would respond 1♦ To 2NT: I would definately pass. You have 4-3-3-3 distribution, all Queens and Jacks and no long suit. Partner could hold: ♠AKx ♥Qxx ♦Axxx ♣AQx This is just one of the thousands of examples of poor 18-20 counts your partner could hold. You win 3 spades, 1 heart (if that), 3 diamonds (if that) and maybe 2 clubs. So with the opps having PERFECT holding, you could make 9 tricks. The other 98% of the time, you will go down. Worth it? -
I played NAMYATS with a previous long time partner of mine. Played it for about 3 years, it came up twice. Not worth worrying about. Nice convention, not as the other guy said, make it easy on your memory.

It is not alertable in North America and why should it be? Overcalling 2NT over an open CAN'T POSSIBLE be a 20-22 balanced hand. That is just novice bidding. With 20-22, you would dbl and then make a huge jump showing that hand. These kinds of techniques have been practiced for years upon years and if they need alerting, then something is wrong in the bridge world.

A great flannery hand! Anyway...I frown on them opening 1♠ with that hand, but in any fashion, do you honestly think if he had 5 spades opposite 4 spades with the Ace and King that he would all of a sudden play out Ace and then small? That's your clue in right there to duck the spade. Why wouldn't he just go for the drop in spades otherwise? Mistake on both sides. No penalty.
-
I agree with that, I often miss messages that are important because of this.

Why? Just use a translator like Altavista's Babelfish.

First off, NO, Advanced+ players do NOT automatically know WJ2000. I know of World Class players who don't know WJ2000 because they don't need to know it. Secondly, I would allow 3NT -2 to stand and give opps proceedural penalty. Lastly, I don't see how you managed to go down in that contract, looks like you have 4 hearts, 4 spades, and a club trick at least.
-
3♠ all day, see what happens. 3NT, I don't see a point, your partner is most likely short in the minors, you have no club stopper. 3♠ would be my bid, if partner has anything more, extra spade card, void, whatever, he will bid 4♠
-
I've been warned though! haha
-
Depends. We don't have the entire story for one thing. Secondly, I would have probably asked him to play or talk, just like he said. The player pressed on with the rant about why the boards were changed. I would have probably booted him off as well, I have more important things to take care of like the game itself.
-
I would ask the sub if he wants to continue playing, he said "yes" then too bad, if he say "no" then I bring back disconnected partner. That would be the same as if you were playing in a real life tournament, you were dummy, had someone else push your hands for you, got an emergency phone call, came back 5 minutes later and was told "sorry, the guy pushing your cards is in now" Same thing.

That's why they run 2 events, Individual and Pairs.

What is the ACBL's proposed rules for discounted entry fee for juniors? Is it discounted for anyone under 21 or anyone under 25 if going to school? I can't remember. Link would be nice too :-) Thanks
-
At a local club game, I would probably not allow it unless it was an open event. I would not allow it any other time. At any other type of game, I would allow this. It is not against the ACBL General Chart and if the opps happen to have something to which to penalize, it is up to them to know to double. Pretty basic.
-
Most of you have not factored in that a majority of the declarers that went down were sitting in "East" position and this was played in the "West" position. Secondly, both 1♣ and 1♦ were alerted. Albeit, the opps were not informed about the short club. Just because they said it was "11+ HCP" does not really say anything about their call to 3NT nor the defense of the opponents. Just about every single person got a major suit lead on this one, regardless of direction. So unless there was some sort of partnership agreement on the 1♦, I would also let it stand. Regardless of the delayed alert.
-
I just wanted to say you guys are doing a great job. I mean $1.00 per game is great and unlike those annual memberships that other ACBL online games charge, I can pay when I want and play when I want. Good job!

3♠ was where the bidding took a bump. He should take 2♠ has the Fourth Suit Forcing saying nothing about spades, a 2NT bid should follow by your partner indicating that he has spade stoppers.

Preventing ACBL numbers from being used..
jdulmage replied to jdulmage's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
Thanks all for the kind responses and I apologize in advance if I caused an uproar. -
First of all, the attitude on this board is pathetic. I am trying to help out the BBO community. Second of all, why did sceptic post that? The same person never wrote both those comments, yes, I just posted the second one, but the first one I have no clue what the hell you are talking about. Thirdly, it is a bug and it isn't disrespectful to the oppt, especially if the auction is taking forever and I receive an important e-mail or something, doesn't matter what the reason is, the fact of the matter is that it is a bug because it prevents users from going back in to BBO. So before you have something to say, consider shutting [edited. Gerardo] up before you post. [edited. Gerardo]

That's true, but also these points have no meaning towards life master. You need black, gold, silver and red, these online points are "colorless", therefore you really can't use them towards anything except to build your masterpoint count. With 50 silver, 100 black, 25 red and 25 gold. That's 200 points in just color required, so it's still impossible to use these towards anything except maybe in some races. -

at the age of 15, to say that drugs, sex and alcohol are positive things is wrong. I sure hope you don't have children. -
This bug has been in there for a while, but I keep forgetting to post it. If you are in the middle of an auction and you minimize BBO, say to surf on the internet or whatever, if the opp't hit your bid asking for you to "Explain your bid", the pop up comes up asking to explain it, you cannot maximum BBO, thus having to do CTRL+ALT+DEL and close BBO, then open it again to get back to your game. Just a little annoying, lol.
