Removing unbalanced minima from a short diamond
yunling replied to MickyB's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
1♦ as 11-13 NT or 14+ with diamonds is very odd to me. It is the intermediate hands that causes problem, so 1♦ as 14-16 NT/14+ with diamonds or as 11-13 NT/11-13&17+ with diamonds looks much better. I don't like 2m openings either. -
bidding space, computer bit & bytes.
yunling replied to benlessard's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I believe the real distribution is something between Fibonacci and Geometric, but closer to Fibonacci. The lower bids contains more hand types and leaves more space, so its nature is to ask more of partner's hand rather than show mine; the higher bids are just the opposite. However, for each of the two person at the table, the information revealed to the other is not symmetric. After 1♠-2NT-3x, certainly responder knows more about opener's hand, instead of the other way around, so he has more desire to ask rather than show, which indicates that for him, the frequency of step +1 bid is always far above 50%(if it is 100% then we get Fibonacci). Using the same logic we can conclude that opener will bid 3♣ less than 50% of the time. -

We lost 31-89, results at http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=3261-1410026441 Not much chance for us...and we made our mistakes, but anyway it is exciting and thank all. -
bid forcing 1nt or make a 2/1 bid?
yunling replied to movingon's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Agree. This hand is not a game force opposite a 2♦ rebid, but has game value otherwise. 1NT gives you the most flexibility and does not really create problems. On the other hand, with an ATxxxx club suit, what's your rebid after 1♠-2♣-2♦? 2NT is certainly worse than 1♠-1NT-2♦-2NT, and 3♣ is also poor with such a bad suit. Even if p has some 5-1-4-3 hands where 2♣ is the only way to find the club fit, you are more belonged to 3NT than 5♣ with that heart holding. So I see no way can 2♣ be the better choice. Change the hand to QT Axxx x KQTxxx then 2♣ may has its merit. -
Invite? Vul IMPs
yunling replied to diana_eva's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Of course it qualifies for a invite in standard, but I don't like to invite with this kind of hands, so pass for me. -
I‘ll give up on diamonds since 3-3 split only have a chance of 36%. ♠K, low club; ♠A, small to ♣K, if it loses to north then hope that he starts with short ♠+3♣+♥K and play small to ♥Q.

yunling + huyou959 will play. If no more BBFers then I'll bring my teammates, gaelclichy + f0rest_zzy -
Would have opened a strong NT :) Play weak NT, open 1♦ and rebid either 1NT or 2♣ Can understand the 2♦ rebid but I don't like rebidding a 5 card suit when other choices are available.

Matchpoint game, who pushed too hard?
yunling replied to humilities's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
At least 90% for south. 4333 shape is no good and KQTx in partner's 5 card suit is a big minus. I rate the hand as a so-so 8 count. For north hand, I know I'm in the minority but I think it worth 13. Jxxxx is no longer a minus when you have a 9-card fit, aces are good, so is DT. Don't know your opening style, but north is probably ok if you open a lot of 11s. -
仔细看3♥的解释吧。西家这牌是多少Total Points我觉得大家都会数。

Yet another make 3NT - play problem
yunling replied to diana_eva's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I suspect your simulation is not suitable for the calculation here. When west holds 4 or 5 spades, the chance for him to continue a spade goes up. When west only holds 3 of them, in which case you really want a spade continue, he is more likely to switch to a club. Also, have you considered the card followed by East? Maybe you should use different strategy when he follows ♠2 or ♠8. -
No problem if 1♥-1NT-2♦ is limited. But playing standard, agree with Zel that you need 2♠&3♦ for 2 ranges of ♦ raise here, something like 8-10/11-12.
-
I think it is unplayable. Your 22+ hands are too high. Finding slams over 2♣-2♦-3M/4m is almost impossible and often you cannot find your major fit below 3NT.

Inverted minors
yunling replied to dickiegera's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Sometimes you really need to have 2m as a 4 card weak raise in competition, e.g. ♠ XXX ♥ QX ♦ KXXX ♣ KJXX 1D-(1S)-? Cuebid or Jordan 2NT is usually ok for inv+ hands. -
I'll also use 1NT rebid for hearts. For simplicity, since 1♠ shows 5, just pass with some minimum misfit hands 1NT = 11-17 4+♥ .....2♣ = forces 2♦, then show a preference with 5-7 .....2♦/2♥ = preference with 8-10 2♣ = 13-17,at least 9 cards in minors 2♦ = natural 2♥/♠ = ♠ raise 2NT = inv+ 6+♦ 3♣ = 4+♣ 18+ 3♦+ = 4+♥ 18+ Not ideal, but quite natural and all ranges are managable.
-
Sometimes opener can still act over 1♠-(3♥)-P-(P)-?, so responder don't need to stretch a lot to bid 3♠ here. The disadvantage of standard is overestimated.
-
没人像我一样在1NT后直接2♥止叫的么 B-) 7222牌型糟糕,大牌里还有两个用处不大的J,止叫算了。
-
人家开强NT后你居然还有心思去探求满贯啊...OMG
-
Here 3♥ shows stopper rather than ask is a bit odd. If so then your 3NT usually denies a heart stopper, am I right? :D
-
The question would be trickier if you have the majors reversed. Now it is a easy 1♠.
-
♦ in either auction, regardless of NT range.
-
Maybe I'm too conservative but I think it is a clear pass. I'd expect more for a vul 2♥ overcall. If you overcall too light, p will have a difficult decision over (1♠)-2♥-(P)-? when he holds some values. Simulation says you should pass again over (1♠)-P-(2♠)-P-(P)-?
-
Rebid some off-shape 1NT(even with 1-4-4-4/1-4-3-5) to clean up your 2C rebid.
