HUM and BSC - are they worth it?
Aberlour10 replied to paulg's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I disagree. No doubt, bridge is the game with completely lack of the visual incentives for the newcomers. There are 100 & 1 barriers for them by starting to watch f.ex. world class events, no matter how good the broadcasting would be medial prepared. I think only very few would say "WOW, THAT'S IT". Surely there are talented people which learn all of it very very fast, but I think the mass of average player go the long "hard"way, to be a beat better step by step, year by year etc... I predict the main "entries" for the bridge newcomers remain anywhere the same: the family, social milieu and school/collage/ university. Robert -

The United States will continue to push the NATO alliance to offer Georgia the Membership Action Plan (MAP) status on the NATO meeting next week, but its for certain that Sarkozy, Merkel, Berlusconi & Co will say : NO. Robert

It's hard to find truth among the ocean of russian and georgian war propaganda, there were only few independent OSCE monitors in the decided moment, what they saw and reported... http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/worl...icle5114401.ece

Sure Only in the management decisions concerning directly the employes. That's true. But if the company management takes (economic based) decision f.ex. in question of mass dissmissals, it is free to do it, "Betriebsrat" has only right to a say on which way this will take place ("Social Plans", possible financial compensations etc,) have a right to ensure that all the regulations concerning protection against unlawful dissmissials will be abide. No "veto right" to change the substantial decision.
-
Not exactly. The market participants are fully free in their economic decisions and actions, the goverment complete substantial social tasks acting as guarantor of "Soziale Frieden" (Social Peace)
-
The principe of german "Soziale Marktwirtschaft" bases on... "das Prinzip der Freiheit auf dem Markt, mit dem Prinzip des sozialen Ausgleichs zu verbinden"... ...it means free market (without strong regulations in the kernel substance) but flanked by many social elements which should equalize negative social spin- offs of the market mechanisms. Nation's first African-American commander in chief

I don't agree. This whole stuff mixed with poor family shows and dirty accusations battles makes such elections for many Europeans simply ridiculous. I only hope the day is far away on which we will experience it ourselves in Europe as a standard. Just my 2 cents. Robert -
Mixed feelings about today and the future: Today is a great and important one for the whole world But the hopes in all over the world are such a high, the global problems pile higher and higher, will a single man be able to shoulder all of it? I wish he will achive some important "part scores" in the foreseeable future... more can we not expect. Robert

Hi, welcome to Forums! ;) I would recommend you to use the "search machine" of this forums( in bar at the top of the site). The part "Beginner and Intermediate Bridge Discussion" contains about 160 pages ( from the beginning) with topics, so if you search using f.e. keywords, you will find for sure themes you are interesting in and you are able to follow. I would probably wonder which strange conventions bridge players used in the year 2008

Stock exchanges around the world may be sputtering, but at least one German company is enjoying a dramatic share price sure. Volkswagen AG. No one at the Frankfurter Stock Exchange remember such a crazy trading day as this one. VW shares raised from about 400€/share to...700€...to .1000€!!! The surge was caused by so-called short-sellers grabbing up the declining number of "free floating" VW shares in a bid to close their positions. This company was for a few hours the most valuable incorporation in the word, more then ExxonMobile..etc! What has is it all with real economic situation to do? Robert

It's hard to make some suggestions to this topic, because in my opinion it is classic no-win-situtation, but...this results from opulence/richness of BBO Vugraph offer. I think people who complain about "trifles" should think a minute about it. Robert
-
Perhaps it is not such a bad idea, in vugraphed matches where the running score is known, that the NPC has the option of throwing in the towel if he thinks his team has had enough. Just like he does on occasion in the boxing ring. "Sorry guys, you are groggy, let's call it a day." Roland I agree, it would work good, especially in cases like this one. It was a very long tournament, both teams are surely very tired, both teams have a long important match next day, why should they spend at the table another +1 hour for these irrelevant 8 boards. Robert

& good luck for tomorrow vs Norway! I am sure your team will show the right answer to all this here at the bridge table. Robert
