Also, I'd hoped ♣KQ weren't tight. Any passive lead wins as there's no way to develop tricks, unless E pitches a spade or something. Instead, W chose to lead its ♥A for some reason. The contract is still down after that (need to lose a spade and a heart) but W chose to continue hearts despite GIB E's discouraging 4, handing me the contract.

[hv=pc=n&s=skj2hajdaq87ckt93&n=sa6hkqt74d4cq8654&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1dp1h2s2n(18-19%20bal%2C%20%21S%20stop)p3c(NMF.%205+%21H%207+%20TP)p3n(Or%203%21D%2C%20doesn%27t%20matter)p4c(4+%21C%205+%21H%207+TP)p]266|200[/hv] Once the auction reaches that spot (unavoidable unless opener supports hearts on AJ and then you end up in 4♥), you're trapped. 4NT is RKCB for clubs, suit bids have weird meanings and you have to let GIB declare clubs instead of just playing in NT. As the cards lay 6♣ makes but from GIB's perspective opener could have ♠KJxx ♥AJ ♦AQxxx ♣Kx - there's no reason to assume opener has club support, especially given the ♦ opening bid, but the system would leave you with no recourse if that were your hand. You'd bid 3♦ instead of 3NT to show rebiddable ♦ but GIB still bids 4♣ over that.
  3. Whenever I try to let a left laner in, it's inevitably someone dense who takes forever to figure out what's going on so I either stall the people behind me or just end up driving slowly past them. Good drivers can merge without being helped, bad ones take too long even with a clear signal that I expect them to.
  4. Also passed me out after 2NT-3♠-3NT. Dunno if it was intentional, I wasn't sure what XNT shows after the initial response.
  5. I'm pretty sure you have me on ignore, but on the off-chance you don't, there's one "major flaw" (basically that the robot doesn't think) and each revision chips away at it, adding more and more rules so it gets more difficult to reach a situation where the robot has to do something crazy like this. Great hand, uva72uva72.
  6. Could you be referring to this hand? [hv=bbo=y&lin=pn|S,leebca,N,E|st||md|2S46QH2346D7JC39TA%2CS9H58D2346TQKC4QK%2CS25JAH79KD589AC26%2C|rh||ah|Board%2048|sv|e|mb|1D|mb|d|mb|1S|mb|p|mb|2D|mb|p|mb|3N|mb|p|mb|p|mb|p|pc|C3|pc|CK|pc|C2|pc|C5|pc|H5|pc|H7|pc|HT|pc|H2|pc|C7|pc|C9|pc|CQ|pc|C6|pc|H8|pc|H9|pc|HJ|pc|H3|pc|S3|pc|S4|pc|S9|pc|SJ|pc|D5|pc|S7|pc|D7|pc|DT|pc|DK|pc|D8|pc|S8|pc|DJ|pc|C4|pc|S2|pc|C8|pc|CT|pc|H6|pc|D2|pc|HK|pc|HA|pc|HQ|pc|H4|pc|D3|pc|S5|pc|CJ|pc|CA|pc|D4|pc|D9|pc|SQ|pc|D6|pc|SA|pc|ST|pc|DA|pc|SK|pc|S6|pc|DQ|]400|300[/hv]
  7. Why not introduce clubs at some point? That's the upside of opening 1♦, I thought. Also, next time tell him that if you're being idiomatic then 3NT should make with 25 combined HCP. Hence, it's probably his declarer play at fault.
  8. Nice one. I think I have the main variant but what happens if [edit] Okay, I think I really have it now.
  9. He ran the J, which makes covering slightly less attractive. Of course, looking at Kx left, I suspect most would have covered the J, not expecting declarer to have settled in clubs with 7 spades.
  10. I think he's referring to north's trap pass.
  11. I reported those posts as spam, FWIW, 1eyedjack. Bumping old topics to advertise a service is only superficially helpful.
  12. It looks like a decent contract. I'd play a heart at trick 2, either getting rid of my immediate loser or setting up spade pitches. I wouldn't have opened this hand 2♣, but would have no issue if my partner did. What was 5NT in your auction?
  13. I keep waiting for rhm to pitch in and say the correct line is cash ♥AQ, four rounds of spades, heart and watch the discards.

  15. What's wrong with 2NT for that, assuming you want a conventional NT over NT opening?
  16. To verify there are no gaps in GIB's rule database, you'd have to check every sequence of bids up to a point with every possible hand for responder. That's not realistically possible, so instead they have a default in there, if you can't figure out what to bid, pass. What alternative would you propose?
  17. What would you have GIB bid when its partner makes a cue bid and it doesn't have a rule how to proceed?
  18. Do note that to double finesse one needs to double get to dummy, and it would appear the only suit to allow such is KQxx opposite AJx.
  19. Easy to reproduce in anon play. Happens in diagram mode or picture with card animation off (card animation on fixes it). Barry, there's about a second of delay between tricks when I'm dummy, if I tap it's shortened to zero. Tapping doesn't affect the bug however, the display is wrong even if you let GIB take its second between tricks.
  20. Much easier to read the text now on an iPad air. It wasn't a problem before, but it's still improved. The font is somehow crisper and the text is larger on some screens. A new minor issue: when GIB plays I fast-forward the hand by tapping rapidly on the screen. When the hand is over, the on-screen prompt for number of tricks taken and score is correct (11 tricks taken, +450) but the display on the top shows the trick before last (10 NS , 2 EW).
  21. [hv=pc=n&n=s97haqt4da4cj7632&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=ppp1d1h]133|200[/hv] My GIB partner elected to overcall 1♥ on a four-card suit here. I don't really ever do it so I can't tell whether it's a good call or not, but what I remember from the Lawrence overcalls book is that it's preferable to do so when you have length in the opponents' suit. It worked out well on this hand though so what do I know.
  22. GIB didn't rebid a 3-card suit. You promised diamond support (4+ cards) and it made the default rebid (retreating to your fit at the lowest level) to show a minimum hand, rejecting the game try.
  23. So 1♠-3♣, 3♦-4♦ GIB shows spade support, a good club suit and diamond shortness?
  24. You're right. No clue how adding BB formatting somehow changed the order, but I fixed it now. Thanks.
