Yours and GIB's system. With a human, you could expect 5♦ to be interpreted the way you meant it. With GIB, it showed extra strength, which you didn't have.
-
You could bid 4♣ and lose 3NT. Not saying GIB's system is perfect. However, double seems okay - it shows roughly what you have (defensive hand, fairly balanced, some trump length), and I'm not sure GIB W was wrong to pass the double is my point.
-
It's an interesting call. Your second double is basically penalty. I guess GIB thought its hand is more suitable for defense than offense. I'm not a good enough player to know, it looks like it could go either way.
-
Focus on the last four lines, then. You have a web address that starts with "http...". You paste it here. Then you replace certain parts of it as shown in the line below and voila. If I thought of an easy way to give people access to a script that does this, I would. It's ultimately a very simple textual replacement.
-
It doesn't work this way. There's no line of code that says "hey, occasionally unblock an honor for no reason" in computer speak. You see how if GIB believes the bids made by south, the Q play is not illogical. So, how can you fix something that's not broken? Playing lowest always helps declarer a lot more than randomly playing between equals.
-
Your 3♥ bid showed the top range of the overcall, i.e. 17 TP. I also play the way you do, but GIB doesn't, and GIB is very stubborn about its own system, it follows it religiously.
-
For GIB 3♥ doesn't show extra trump length, but it does show a balanced maximum, I think 18+ HCP? So GIB is looking at 35+ combined HCP, so you can't be off AK.
-
South psyched, showing 2 or less diamonds and a maximum of 11 HCP. That probably caused W to place E with some of S honors and definitely one more diamond, so unblocking the Q serves to put E on lead eventually and can't cost a trick.

Here's your hand. You can find it when looking in "Myhands" and entering your name, then clicking on "Movie". To enter it here you need to replace the first part of the URL (until the question mark) with a [hv= tag, put a closing bracket in the end (]), then write the size (I used 400|300) and close the hv tag ([/hv]) [hv=bbo=y&lin=pn|iandayre,~~M55740,~~M55738,~~M55739|st||md|1S238JH4KADTQAC79K%2CS46H3589TJD2378C5%2CS59KH6QDKC268TJQA%2C|rh||ah|Board%207|sv|b|mb|1N|an|notrump%20opener.%20Could%20have%205M.%20--%202-5%20!C|mb|p|mb|2N!|an|Minor%20transfer%20--%206%2B%20!C%20|mb|p|mb|3C|an|Transfer%20completed%20--%202-5%20!C%3B%202-5%20!D%3B%202-|mb|p|mb|3D!|an|Splinter%20--%206%2B%20!C%3B%201-%20!D%3B%209%2B%20HCP%3B%20forcing%20to%203N%20|mb|p|mb|3N|an|2-5%20!C%3B%202-5%20!D%3B%202-5%20!H%3B%202-5%20!S%3B%2015-17%20HC|mb|p|mb|4N|an|Blackwood%20%28C%29%20--%206%2B%20!C%3B%201-%20!D%3B%2017%2B%20total%20points%20|mb|p|mb|5C|an|Zero%20or%20three%20key%20cards%20--%202-5%20!C%3B%202-5%20!|mb|p|mb|6C|an|6%2B%20!C%3B%201-%20!D%3B%2017%2B%20total%20points%20|mb|p|mb|p|mb|p|pc|S6|pc|S5|pc|SQ|pc|S2|pc|SA|pc|S3|pc|S4|pc|S9|pc|S7|pc|S8|pc|C5|pc|SK|pc|HJ|pc|HQ|pc|H7|pc|H4|mc|10|]400|300[/hv] IOW you go from this: http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?bbo=y&... Really? I was sure the auction would start with 1♥ with W. Isn't this the textbook solution for very shapely hands not strong enough to reverse?
-
But it's not. The opponents are in a doubled cue bid.
-
Gimmick posters, especially on Facebook. One recent fad here was a character basically named "boring Joe" that posted a lot of "everyday" crap about some fictitious office job and friends. Because it's ironic people followed that crap, no problem. But then, that account started invading other discussions to make boring comments about them, and then normal posters start making boring comments and hash-tagging them "boringJoe" and then you're assaulted with intentional stupidity, but it's ironic so it's supposed to be funny or something. This happens way too often. Give unfunny people an outlet to feel clever and they'll abuse the hell out of it.
-
That would make sense, but there are so many bug reports where people pass, then balance and GIB sends them to game ignoring they've limited their hand.
-
GIB N deals: P-(p)-1♦-X 1♥-(1♠)-P-(P) 2♣-(P) Now 3♦ by opener is: 2-♥; 14+HCP; twice rebiddable ♦; 14- TP. 2♦ is defined reasonably (more or less), minimum opener with no club or heart support. 4♦ has the same explanation as 2♦. (The hand that inspired me to consider 3♦ was ♠KT96 ♥- ♦AKQT52 ♣K83 where bidding 3NT seems like a bad idea)

Bidding this potential slam

12 HCP + 2 shortness < 15 -> not extras. GIB is a bean counter. -
Bidding this potential slam
Antrax replied to xeno123's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Playing with GIB it's rare you'll want to describe your hand, because GIB has lousy "judgment". You want to mastermind the auction. So, 2NT (since the 5-4 fit isn't likely to play worse than the 6-2 or 6-3 heart fit, and if GIB raises hearts you're locked into hearts forever as you've discovered). In this case GIB would show club shortness and then you can keycard with confidence. With a human partner, of course the descriptive 2♥ is best IMO. In my partnership it would go 1♠-2♥, 3♥-3♠, 4♣ and you're off. GIB requires extras to raise partner's 2/1 response, so it can't have this auction. -
GIB doesn't open a weak 2 with a side 4-card major so it makes no sense for its jumps to be splinters.

Version 1.48g - please post feedback and suggestions here
Antrax replied to diana_eva's topic in Suggestions for the Software
There seems to be a relatively simple counter to this - start playing as late as possible while still allowing yourself time to finish all boards. Is this worse than having to wait at the end? -
Two Gib partners scramble for final contract
Antrax replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Check out GIB S play on trick 10. -
"GIB is a savant" is the best way to think about it. It can execute a complex squeeze one hand and the next pitch an ace to let an unmakeable contract through. The kind of mistakes it made won't be made by most humans, so it's difficult to model its skill level. It does perform better than the average BBO player.
-
GIB doesn't have all those "when partner bids game out of the blue, he's not inviting your opinion" rules. So, your 4♥ bid was descriptive to it, showing a 20-count with good 6 or okay 7 hearts. Opposite that it figured you rate to make 6♥. Just keep in mind you often can't "place the contract" when playing with GIB, since leaps often show extra strength. It's quite possible if you'd bid 3♥-3♠-4♥ you'd get to play there.
-
No, because you insist on generic sniping instead of replying to the heart of the matter. You can do it for every issue, it's borderline trolling.
