Why Trump won. My point of view. WISC, MICH, OHIO and PENN. Everyone expected Hillary to win these four states. Trump campaigned hard in these states. Trump criss-crossed back and forth many times in these states. Hillary ignored them. HRC was too busy fund raising in California and New York. She told layed off workers they will be retrained. High school grads over the age of fifty who lose their jobs can not and will not find jobs which pay as well as jobs they lost. During the industrial age between 1945-85 those with a high school education did financially well. As the world transitioned into the info tech age this group has been left behind. The world strunk. Their jobs were outsourced to 3rd world countries which had less expensive workers. These blue collar workers include people who are white, black and Hispanic. Of course, posters on this board are all college grads and aren't left behind. The democratic party took for granted the votes of blue collar workers from blue states. The republican party gave up trying for their votes. During the final two weeks up to the election the betting polls had Hillary favored by 68 to 75%. The political polls had her as high as 97%. Trump campaigned and asked for blue collar workers to vote for him. Trump promised to save their jobs. Hillary promised to retrain them. Of course, Trump wont be able to save all the good paying jobs. He will be able to slow down the outsourcing. The democratic party colored this racist. So why would any high school grad vote for a party which obviously isn't interested in protecting their interest?

1C-X-? and then what?
jogs replied to kenberg's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
This is wrong way thinking. You are warning the opponent with the bigger hand not to raise based solely on points. With a good defensive hand and a misfit, pass. Allow opponents to overbid. Then double them at higher levels. -
This thread needs a picture.

Expert standard range?
jogs replied to Jinksy's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
(1♣) - 1♠ Your side is non vul. Does your partnership overcall 1♠ with ♠ AKxx ♥ xxx ♦ xxx ♣ xxx? If so, it may be often right to pass with 9 or 10 and no club stop. ♠ Jx ♥ KJx ♦ KQxx ♣ Jxx It may be best to pass with this 11. -
So much for LoTT.lol We can see that there are only 15 total trumps. Also opponents have bid to the 4 level with only 8 trumps while missing AKJ of trumps.
-
Yes, opponents are pushing us around. Pass and this is a opening lead problem.

Expert standard range?
jogs replied to Jinksy's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I'm willing to bet that there is no standard range. Also it would depend on vulnerability and whether it is matchpoints or imps. -
That describes the left.

What was happening to those with pre-existing conditions before Obamacare? Why should others be responsible for their care at inflated prices? Repeal Obamacare and they are no worst than before 2009. Obama claims 20 million would lose health insurance. With a $5,000 deductible, how many of those people actually had access to healthcare? Solve the problem of healthcare for vets before tackling healthcare for the general population.

How improve play of hand?
jogs replied to bmonger's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
https://www.amazon.com/Watsons-Classic-Book-Play-Bridge/dp/0064632091 Watson's Play of the Hand in Bridge is the most complete book on declarer play I've ever seen. Also take 30 to 45 seconds after the dummy is tabled before playing to the first trick. Plan the play of the entire hand then play a card from the dummy. -
Govt setting prices? Isn't that single payer? Why is every pill once a day at over $100 a month? If some one discovers a pill which only needs to be taken once a month, does the drug companies suppress this finding? I favor no insurance for most healthcare needs. Free market. Prices for Lasik surgery and boob jobs have actually gone down. Insurance doesn't cover those procedures.

Small businesses are paying the high corporate tax rate.
-
The entire insurance model for healthcare makes no sense. With auto insurance when you file a claim the insurance company raises your rates. No way should the govt force insurance companies to take a lost for people with pre-existing conditions. The govt must find a way for those people to receive treatments at a wholesale price.

Do any of us know who's hand this is? 4♣ is an overbid in terms of defense. We certainly have the offense. Is there any way for us to show pard 6-card support? I doubt it. Also it is probably (game theory) wrong to reserve a bid to show 6-card support. It is too unlikely an event. Jump fits should create a forcing pass situation. Still I'm willing to bid 4♣ in this auction. 4♣. Planning to pass if pard rebids 4♠. More likely is opponents contesting in hearts. Then I'm willing to contest up to 5♠. Any slam aspirations will need to come from pard.

Returning partner's suit
jogs replied to pstansbu's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
You convinced me. Most bad players would play small with Jxx(x) in hand most of the time. West erred on this board. -
Why are upset you missed 6♥? I only see 2 spades, 2 diamonds and 7 hearts?. Was your 12th trick a spade or the 8th heart? Either way, is it really clearly better than 50/50?

Although the standard return is original 4th best from this holding, wouldn't the ♥J have clarified the situation for partner? -
Simple Bidding Sequence
jogs replied to portia2's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Can we all agree that this is NOT a simple bidding sequence? -
Vacant places vs missing points
jogs replied to smerriman's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
smerriman, thank you for 400/300. 6 in morning, it helps to have large print. "West lead a trump", confused me. West likely held the ♥K. If West also held the ♦Q, why didn't West raise hearts? Play East for the ♦Q. -
PSYCHED OUT - A BRIDGE FAIRY TALE
jogs replied to woodjohnd's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I care less, if opponents psyche. In America, most of the new players are over fifty. They can't handle psyches. One bad experience may make them give up the game. The ACBL needs new players more than new players need the ACBL. A compromise would make psyches is mid-chart treatment. Expert players should be able to deal with psyches. The masses would never see one at the table. Also a psyche is a bid to deceive. Pre-empts are not psyches. Neither are bids which may be undervalued(in the opinion of opponents). -
PSYCHED OUT - A BRIDGE FAIRY TALE
jogs replied to woodjohnd's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I do favor a ban on psyching. If you want to psych, play poker. It is relatively easy to field psyches by partner. But when your side psyches both opponents must field the psych to survive the board. Also fielding psyches often creates a BIT. If there were a rule that the psyching pair is not entitled to protection, then I would agree to allowing psyches. Meaning if your side psyches, their side is allowed to bid whatever they like even if there is a BIT. -
Show your 4-card support immediately
jogs replied to InTime's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Unless your partnership has thoroughly discussed the situation, on the fly it should be never. After the 1♠ call you will never be able to convince pard you have 4 card heart support. -
Show your 4-card support immediately
jogs replied to InTime's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I have yet to see an unbiased study to prove whether the 4-4 fit or 5-4 fit has greater chances of making 12 tricks. Anyone can construct a board where one fit works better than the other fit. Proves nothing. Need at least 1000 random independent boards to prove any conclusion unless one fit is 'clearly' better than the other. -
The Integrity of the Masterpoint
jogs replied to Kaitlyn S's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
What's right. The goal of the ACBL is to make money by selling masterpoints. Swiss teams started losing popularity in the nineties. Too few winners. Too expensive for most teams to buy masterpoints. Then they invented bracketed imp teams. Attendance soared. More teams. More winners. More masterpoints awarded.
