  1. messing with strong 2 sequences can cause huge problems so I would advise against any club bids until we know what the heck opener has. I am not a gerber fan and hands like this show why. Over 2n I think a 4c bid adequately shows this type of hand (7/8 clubs)and mild slam interest or better. If opener wishes to sign off in 4n responder should accept that. 4d by opener should be KRC (0314) followed by 4h (03) 4s (club Q? AND promising all keycards) 5h (yes and heart K AND unable to bid 7 unless opener has something more than 4 aces and the club K. 6c. Note the huge difference when switching opener's red suits, an easy 7c can be bid unless opener wishes to take the slight gamble on the heart K being singleton and led and bids 7n.
  2. Ambiguity is the key problem here. Does the return of the 8 really mean low from an honor here? We might all too easily decide a club is the best return at the slight risk of setting up declarer's six card suit. With K82 as an original holding would I not return the 8? With the KT2 I should return the 2. This means a return of the T should always show the 9 and we can help clarify our holding on the next club (which rates to be safe for partner to return).
  3. when u are viewing the history screen, there is a little house in the upper left hand corner and just to the left of the little house there should be a symbol that looks like < but a tad more pronounced. If you click on that arrow the history screen will switch to a list of all your recent activity and you can pick and choose what you wish to see from there. BE WELL
  4. nice presentation. There was no sound but the script made it easy to follow.
  5. While I cannot PASTE using my mouse key I found I can CTRL V to paste.
  6. Sorry would not find this at the table. I would have assumed the AQJ of heart offside (plus extra chances shown below) and tried for a strip and endplay trick 1 duck dia K trick 2 win 2nd dia trick 3 spade K If trumps 4/0 stop drawing trumps and if EAST has the 4 trumps hope the heart A is onside (50% chance of down only 1) if WEST has the 4 trumps try to do the strip and endplay shown below with up to 81% chance of down only 1) trick 4 spade A follow the appropriate LOP based on finding in trumps. IF EAST has 3 trumps no strip and endplay is available. Best bet is finding heart ace onside after drawing the last trump (50%) IF WEST has 3 trumps OR they split 22 (if trumps 22 there are no over ruff concerns by west lowering the % of success) trick 5 club to the K trick 6 ruff a dia trick 7 club A trick 8 ruff the club. trick 9 lead the heart T If covered by the Q or J fly the K and hope u guess the T or 8 correctly when east returns a heart (if they give u a ruff and sluff its over). If the T is NOT covered duck it to east and they are endplayed. If trumps were 22 this LOP is around 81% (50% heart K is onside + 12.5% chance East started with the heart AQJ + a good guess of playing the 10 or 8 when east covers the heart K and returns a heart). Somewhat lower when west had 3 trumps and could overruff at some point. I am still looking for a microscope powerful enough to calculate the odds of the proposed double squeeze being successful. Just for grins it also takes a heart switch at trick 2 to defeat the AQJ offside scenario.
  7. since I (aware of limited imagination) cannot dream of a legitimate defense to defeat 3n, I will depend on the skill of declarer, declarer disliked that spade lead for some reason and I see no reason to try any other defense. I will just give p even count and leave it up to them to figure out I have Qxxx and no obvious line of attack requiring me to overtake.
  8. intriguing how many differing styles of 2/1 there seem to be. I doubt anyone would suggest (noint) a start of 1d 2c 2d as a catch all bid when it is so simple to show a 4 card major over the 2c bid w/o showing extra values. This means I am quite surprised no one suggested the inference that opener lacked a 4 card spade suit. I understand the principle of bidding beyond the original suit should show extra values but the idea was based on the concept of leaving 2nt available. The failure to show the spades immediately can cause severe complications later in the bidding where it might become unclear if opener actually has spade support or merely suggesting a possible moysian with nothing better to bid. How does this thinking affect this hand? The 2h bid denying 4 spades creates a situation where 2s by responder can now be used to show spades stopped for NT (or just another temporizing bid with further discussion) rather than worrying about finding a fit there. Opener begins to appreciate their hand much more when responder bypasses 2s for 3c (don't get me started on the no spade stop 2n bid) due to the singleton spade. Opener can no longer suppress the great heart suit so 3h is bid and even if responder tries to sign off in 4h (due to concerns about spade losers off the top), opener should realize responder surely would have bid 3s (with the spade ace) on the way to 4h so the singleton spade now looks tremendous. I would bid 4s expecting it to be exclusion and after finding 3 keys I would bid 6h since I can see almost zero advantage to us playing in our theoretically bigger club fit (at least until I hear that stinking lightner x asking for a club lead sigh). Mikeh shows a good example where the bidding can go 1h 2d 2h 3c 3h 3s (asking for help for 3n) 4s (a minor fit and spade control but not strong enough to take over the bidding) easily arriving at 6c but needing partnership notes to discover the heart void and biding 7c. Be Well
  9. glad to see at least some considering the pass as semi rational. With 4H and 4C available as safe havens it is hard to imagine a (decent) seeing eye pair stopping in 3c. I would just assume the east player did not know how to continue over 3c and felt pass was the least dangerous thing they could do. I am not saying the pass was a good choice just hardly the world's worst of all the possible bids available opposite a passed partner. My auction 1n 2c 2d 3c 3h (having hearts stopped for nt purposes and a diamond problem (I do not cue bid to show club support I look for nt first) 4c p would undoubtedly not have won any medals from my opps. Most play balanced opposite balanced look for major and bid nt and hope if there is a weak suit it is not attacked. I would only find 4h if the nt opener was near max with no wasted dia values and they would bid 4h over 4c on the way to 5c to suggest the moysian. Hope all are well and continue to avoid covid 19
  10. I have created a ton of hand types using the software for the bidding table and they all work fine if i type them in BUT i cannot find any way to paste them or download a file so I can use them...... help some of these creations are 200+ keystrokes and take a hunt and peck like me almost all day.
  11. NS missing the low % 4s does not bother me a whit but the blame for missing 3n EW lie squarely with E. Given the bidding, The east hand should evaluate closer to 12 rather than a measley 7 and it evaluates as closer to 15 (5 tricks) if W does NOT have the dia K since the finesse looks to be a huge favorite. Bidding the hand as if it was xxx xxx xxxx xxx does no justice to this holding. I would not go so far as to bid 2h (those with more courage than I might feel compelled) but feel strongly that 3d is the proper bid. A max 2d bid would look more like JTx xx AQxx xxxx.
  12. At IMPS I would invite but I see little advantage to upping the level at MP to reach for what is probably still a sketchy game. This is the type of hand that helps one find a compatible partner.
  13. When I consider the weakest hand I might have to bid 4s AQJxxxxx xx xx x for me to not bid 7s with the problem hand seems insulting to partner. At MP my biggest problem would be how to explore for 7n.
  14. 3s partner is aware of our desire to play in the major rather than nt so if they choose 3n I will honor that decision. Just feel there are too few 12s that will produce game and most of those will be 3n.
  15. IMHO GIB constantly has "expectations" that hamper its ability to bid. A small change in "thinking" would go a long way toward alleviating these problems. ONCE GIB has LIMITED it's hand (ie the previous bid showed 12-) instead of anticipating what gib feels should be happening how about treating all bids below game as invitational and asking gib to proceed or even cue bid IF they are close to the top of their previously stated range. This idea should only occur when there is a trump fit (since gib jumps to stupid slams only in suit contracts).
  16. immediate 5d.I am unsure how often this will make but I would HATE to have to make another decision over 3s or 4s. I would much rather trust partner to have the goods than the opps so I seriously doubt 5d is in any serious trouble at these colors. Feel LOTT is umm unreliable on hands like these.
  17. west has an easy 3c bid available if they want to show serious values. A simple 3h (immediate) raise gets this hand across nicely. Passing is out of the question since I would much rather trust partner than the opps. The fact that partner chose to bid 2h on this collection may indeed lead to disaster but they will learn from the experience. I would hate to miss game when partner has AKx Axxxxxx x xx. I am not sure why so many players ignore the idea that entering the bidding at unfavorable opposite two unlimited (bidding) opps is fraught with danger.
  18. guard squeeze (west has to shed a club) followed by winkle
  19. with two aces (ie defensive values) vs 1 ace and 2 queens I might be tempted to try a slow approach. Our spade length tremendously deteriorates much of partners defense so it appears that our hand should be treated as a preempt. 4s should do well in both cases. With our short heart and spade Q making it tough to double. 4S has a small chance of getting an opp (with xx spades) to think we have ten+ spades and wrongly play their partner for one. Slam (for us) would seem to be impossible given the bidding so we might as well make the opps guess about how to proceed with a 4s bid.
  20. 4d 4h 4s = 55+ in majors = length or longer spades 4h 4s 5h = 55+ majors longer hearts I would consider the power of the problem hand to be the absolute minimum to pull 3n with 55 distribution. The remainder of my favorite system is 4c = relay to 4d* 4d = transfer to hearts 4h = transfer to spades 4s = transfer to clubs 4n = quantitative 11-13 5c = 55+ clubs and hearts clubs longer than hearts 5d = gerber *after the relay is accepted (4d) 4h 55 hearts and clubs hearts = or longer than clubs 4s 55 spades and clubs spades = or longer than clubs 4n quantitative 14-16 5c 55+ clubs and spades clubs longer than spades 5d quantitative 17-18 5h quantitative 19-20 5s quantitative 21-22
  21. It will help you enormously if you read how each bid will be interpreted by your robot partner. You will normally wince at how bad these expectations are but they are what you have been stuck with. even with a human partner I would not consider the 1d bid to be a suit unless the opps were playing a 2+ club opener. That means 3d would still be played as natural (what would you do with 984 742 KQJTxxx void or similar) over a 1d opening bid? The practical bid is 3h asking for a heart stop. We already are just short of 100% sure there is no long spade suit so the mere presence of a heart stop should give us reasonable play for 3n opposite our partners unfavorable 2c bid. It is a robot so don't go throwing too much money away at your nearby casino betting that partner has what you might expect for the 2c bid:)))
  22. most of us play and watch our random partners and opps or watch team games to see which players we find interesting. Not an easy task but can be well worth the effort.
  23. went with 2n at MP since minors rarely score well and the lighter p opens the less inclined I am to uptick this hand further. IMPS 3d We still have many places to play and the minors are not the pariah they are at MP. we warn p of the invitational nature of our hand (we had a 2h fsf available) AND our long suit so they know to steer clear of game (most of the time) when they do not fit us well.
  24. and here I was thinking my partners all grumbling about my pessimism when I passed and of course the AQ was onside doubleton sigh
  25. There is just zero polite way to discuss this. Getting booted at random has several negative effects. 1. Anger 2. reputation if a bad board happens and you are suddenly poofed 3. I do NOT want your programmers messing with my pc do NOT restart game on your own let me do it. 4. % completed hands probably suffers when poofing happens in middle of a hand 5. Anger (oh wait I mentioned that already) but I am typing this while angry. 6. I wonder why I get poofed ONLY when I am in the middle of getting a good score? coincidence? 7. Sorry but the possiblity of being placed back where I was with little disruption is too large a price to pay for allowing the program to reboot w/o my consent. 8. I am having HUGE problems believing this bug has not been eliminated by now call orkin or something
