Bid this and why?
gszes replied to dickiegera's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
at these colors or favorable I would x with this type of hand (or better) as long as I felt SLAM was not reasonable. We are a heavy favorite to hammer these (I gotta bid something) opps so let's take advantage of the situation. If p cannot x 3c it will make me sweat some with this hand but (when I x again) at least we know the opps are limited to a 8 card club fit and with any luck repeated club leads will save the day for us and give us a decent penalty. -

If I was going to try a dummy reversal I would try this: trick 1 ruff heart trick 2 plunk down club A (see if any 40 split makes me change my mind) trick 3 low spade to dummy (it does not help the defense for lho to ruff this) trick 4 ruff heart trick 5 dia to dummy trick 6 ruff heart trick 7 dia to dummy trick 8 ruff heart trick 9 club toward the Q makes when lho has 2 or 3 clubs or a singleton honor (minus a dia ruff) BUT I am unconvinced my rho at favorable (and precious little defense) failed to try 4h AND lho made the risky looking lead of the heart J from probably KJT which dramatically decreases the chances they have any short suit. All of this, plus vacant spaces, points to rho having club length so I will try the following instead. trick 1 ruff heart trick 2 dia to dummy trick 3 club Q intending to double hook rho hopefully losing at most 1c and 1s and merely watch the bridge gods rofl when lho comes up with KJ tight in clubs. or 4 spades and stiff club K

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I happened to be looking at round 2 and I see scores posted not sure those should count since I was asking opps to play boards I did not know were already completed (for round one) and they may have accepted for practice just a thought. I didn't know round one was finished and didn't even know I had qualified for round 2.

don't let one non thinking partner wreck your good bidding. Keep up the good work and maybe just maybe you will improve all of our bridge one hand at a time:) 3c followed by 4n for me.

I admit to laziness since I did not look up to see if the "judge" OR the appeals committee were part of the executive or the judicial branch. When people's jobs depend on them following even the most idiotic of "laws", these are the results one will see from time to time. With any luck whatsoever, the case will be booted up somewhere and maybe someone with an ounce of common sense will prevail. The scary part is the conditions, used to deny her appeal, might not even be part of a law written by CONgress but administrative rules written by some answerable-to-no-one bureaucrat. If you think about it - some of our Guantanamo prisoners have been held ad nauseum for providing some sort of material support to terrorism and none of them ever reported doing so under threat of death. Maybe the distinction is lost on the peeps in charge of this situation.

look at the idiotic description of the first x apparently (I might be misreading it) west has at least 5454 distribution. Reminds me of a good joke where aliens decide there is no intelligent life here when their secret visit to a bridge club shows no ability to count to 13.

sigh I WISH it was always a moment of excitement I have seen some really good players purposely fail to follow suit (as declarer) to find where missing cards are etc. The ONLY time I would allow this claim would be if the Queen is singleton no matter what level the player is since the claim might have been made solely for the purpose of eliciting a reaction from the queen holding opp. I can see where others might consider this opinion a bit draconian.

bot holding xxx xxx Kxx Kxxx I am not going to give full bidding because it matters not to the computer BUT I have bid diamonds (not a preempt) and I got a stinking heart lead I am TIRED of these irrational and stupid leads which constantly give away tricks and worse ALWAYS seem to work in favor of the bots on defense when their p has the miraculous card they need. STOP THIS MADNESS force the computer to LEAD OUR SUIT UNLESS THERE IS A STRONG REASON TO BELIEVE ANOTHER SUIT IS BETTER (on both offense and defense). I stopped playing in middle of a challenge to type this because this type of stuff borders on cheating (or at least gives the really good appearance of it). I am tired of doing things with the computer to no avail and this is a SUPER EASY fix. How about it people can we all stand together and yell our lungs out in frustration??????????????

I really like MIKEH system but I wonder if the definition of x might also be expanded to include minimum hands with 44 in the majors. Kxxx Axxx AQx xx. This type of hand is quite common and if we ignore the virtually certain 44 (or better) major suit fit we run the risk of 3c getting passed out when our side might have a very good chance of making 3M (or even more). We will indeed get too high sometimes but it should rarely be a disaster. If responder cannot move above the 3 level they may simply pick their best major at the 3 level. This extra bit of competitiveness might work much more effectively at MP where the battle for all part scores is ravenous. How does one handle a hand like AQ KQx QJxxx Axx if responder were to bid 3M over our x? I think a delayed 3n should show doubt about 3N as our final contract since we failed to bid it immediately and we are asking responder to try and salvage something. We might indeed get too high with a good hand this way but we have explored for all of our options and gathered as much information as possible before deciding what to do. If we are vulnerable (at MP especially) a partnership might decide to avoid x with a minimum hand as going down 2 (even undoubled) might become a disaster for no good reason (no such concerns not vulnerable).
