At the moment, I still very much prefer the Windows client rather than the web browser, for the following reasons. 1) I have still not got used to navigating around the web browser. 2) The chat function seems much more user friendly on the windows client. 3) I like the hover function which allows you to see a user's profile 4) It seems easier to review previous hands in the Windows client. I must admit, at the moment I would prefer to be able to stick with the Windows client. Regards Mark

South 120% 6S is a wild leap in the dark with 2 heart losers, and he has already shown his extra values by bidding 3S (I assume?) Incidentally, you have both hands with KJxx of clubs. Presumably South has AQxx of clubs?

1C (X) 1H (P) 1NT (2S) 3H (3S) 4H (4S) ? [hv=d=n&v=n&s=sxhq1098xxdxxcaq10x]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] Not sure if you agree with the bidding or not, but that is how the bidding has gone. What say you, if anything?

I'm going to force the opening bidding on you as the following: 2C 2D 3S [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sjxxhq10xdqxckxxxx&s=sakq10xxxhdakxcaqx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Nothing weird and wonderful here, since I was teaching beginners at the time. But how do you (with any accuracy) get to 7S?

If you want to be polyamorous, declare yourself as polyamorous and enjoy yourself. But the secret is to be honest and ethical about it. Read "The Ethical Slut". It's a good book :o

Pass is never an option If you decide this isn't enough for a constructive heart raise then 1NT (forcing) is the bid, to show a bad raise to 2H. I think this is a bad raise, regardless of 4 card support, so I bid 1NT. However, I do think it's close.

There have been a number of recent posts about directors not believing a player's description of their agreements without documented evidence to back this information up. I play 2 nights a week. With both my partners our discussion about system is limited to what we discuss as we play, and it is never written down (mostly because I made a conscious decision a few years ago to escape from "serious" bridge). Admittedly some of it is a bit non-mainstream, but it is still our partnership agreement. I don't see why this should be an issue. I'm not a bridge professional, and have a job, a social life outside of bridge and other interests outside of bridge. Why should I be penalised for this?

Double seems automatic. Partner is not likely to be particularly enthusiastic about reopening on this auction, I like my pips, and I have decent support for whatever suit partner bids in response to the double.

Charles used to live in London when he was at university there, and it was there that I had the priviledge of meeting him. A few of us are planning some sort of memorial ceremony in London over the next few weeks.

How to bid this correctly?
mr1303 replied to DWM's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
A few options here. 1) When I played strong club seriously I had the agreement not to open 1D with primary diamonds unless I had a GF in my own hand. Therefore this sequence seems plausible. 1D (1S) 3D 3H 3S 4D P/5D depending on what mood responder is in. 2) If I have to open this 1C, then: 1C (1S) X 2D 3D 3H 3S 4D P/5D depending .... I do feel I'm going to be in 5D off 1 a fairly high percentage of the time here. -
I would bid 2H on this hand all positions all vulnerabilities, whether partner is passed or not. However I would never bid anything other than 2H.

[hv=d=n&v=e&s=s108xxhakjxdkjxcax]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] Partner opens 4D Namyats, opps are silent. Your call? 4H will ask for some sort of feature, 4NT would be RKCB.

[hv=d=s&v=b&n=saq10xh10xxxxdakcax&s=sxhakqjxxdxxxcqxx]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv] 1H 2NT 3S 4NT 5S 7H All Pass I actually made this on a misdefence against some beginners, but against most pairs this should go off. Unlucky, or bad judgement? 2NT was Jacoby 3S showed shortage 4NT was RKCB 5S showed 2+ Q

NS play 3NT after the auction 2NT (club pre-empt) 3NT. This is 6 off by the end of trick 12 and NS are booked for a complete zero, until West realises he has no 13th card (North has 2) Average minus to both sides? EW feel hard done by and NS feel very lucky.

Sadly (and fairly predictably) partner did have a 20-22 2NT opening. I alerted and bid 3C, after which LHO enquired and I answered. Partner (bless her) announced to the whole table that she had made a mistake and bid 3NT. We don't have an agreement that this is Stayman since in the analogous sequence 2D 2H 2NT responder has denied a 4 card heart suit (else 2S or higher). We would show a feature that responder would be interested in, with 3H showing a 5 card suit. We therefore bid 3NT fairly frequently. Anyway, I tried a what's going on 4NT which got raised to 6NT. I also called the director on myself to give a ruling. 6NT made exactly (and was laydown) How do you rule? Sadly I do not have partner's hand.

With 20-22 Balanced we open 2D Multi. 2C - 2 Bananas- 2NT is 23-24

[hv=d=w&v=b&s=skxhqxxdqxxxxcaqx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] You are South. Partner opens 2NT in 2nd seat which systematically shows a normal pre-empt in clubs. You decide that for better or for worse, you are happy to bid 3C, which is systematically a sign-off. Partner however hasn't finished yet and decides to bid 3NT. What do you bid here?

When I used to play lots of bridge, I used to struggle with the feeling of being "couped up", i.e. the lack of fresh air and exercise used to really get to me. This was why I had a 2+ year break from playing. Now I've started to play a bit more again, but I've noticed the same problem coming back. Do other people have the same problem? If so, how do you deal with it, particularly at a big event?

[hv=d=e&v=n&s=skqxxxxhaqxxdxcxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] (1C) 1S (2D) 2H (3D) 4H (5C) P P ? In Acol land (opps play 4 card majors and weak NTs) you have the following auction. What say you now? Do you disagree with your previous 4H bid? In case it matters, 2H was natural not forcing (not promising a spade fit) and his pass over 5C is not forcing either.
-
Obviously there aren't extensive agreements. NS play 4 card majors if it helps. However, the auction is best described as "undiscussed"

EBU land if it makes any difference [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sk10xhxdkxcaqjxxxx&s=sxhakqxxxxdaxcxxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1H (2D) P* P 2H P 3C P 4H P P P * = agreed hesitation Table result: 4H making, NS + 420 EW want a ruling on this one. Any thoughts? Incidentally, NS are a pick-up partnership. South is a fairly advanced player, North is a nervous, but enthusiastically competent beginner.

Not even The Hideous Hog does that!

If you try drawing trumps in the process of ruffing clubs, you find out the following: 1) Trumps are 2-1 with West (the pre-emptor) having the singleton 2) RHO has Kx of clubs. It is also very unlikely that LHO has 4 hearts, since on a previous board she has explained that she couldn't pre-empt having a side 4 card major. She is also known to give count religiously (hence the comment about being a known Walrus). However QJ10xxxx and out is probably an acceptable pre-empt at this vulnerability.

[hv=d=w&v=n&n=sajxhakq10dakxxxcx&s=sqxxhxxdqjxxxcaxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Bidding proceeds: (3C) X P 4D P 4NT P 5D P 7D all pass LHO leads the Q of clubs. What's the best line to make this? If it helps, LHO is a known Walrus.
