  1. Edit: 3♣ is like 3-8 or 9-11 (2♠ is not strictly forcing, which may be a bit underbid but well). Otherwise I think that yes, I have more than enough clubs to bid them twice.
  2. 1♣-1♦ (various hand types) 2♠-3♣ (0-8 or 9-11 with a bad minor... yes that is quite horrible) 3♥-4♣ 4♦-4♥ (keys? 1) 4♠-4N (♣Q? yes and no king) 6♣ or something ugly like that.
  3. This structure comes from Jassem's WJ05 (translated in English by David Neill, you can find it on internet); he proposes three variants for 2♦ and the one I settled on is bubrotka (thinking about switching to odwyrtka right now). 2♦ promises 3+♥ (as a poster said once on r.g.b., bidding 2♦ without 3-card support is a "serious bridge crime" :-)) so 5224 is excluded. I also have the agreement with my partner that 2♦ can come from either a balanced (intending to bid NT or support), or a one-suited hand (intending to bid the suit or support) -- if two-suited, say 5314, you have to decide which suit to hide, because seemingly natural auctions such as 1♣-1♥; 1♠-1N; 2♣-... intending to give delayed support to partenr's first suit are canapé with 5+♣4♠ 15-17 (in this particular case) so you need to bid 2♠ first and then 3♣ later (or perhaps 3♥). These auctions aren't that nice so I decided that showing a strong hand and bypassing 2♦ basically gives up on finding a 3-5 fit. For this particular auction opener's 3♠ shows a 63xx (if 5314 he would probably make the practical bid of 3N at that point, and with 4-card support he would cheaply agree hearts) so responder can see that 4♠ will usually have more play than 3N given the club weakness. The full structure of bubrotka after 1♣-1M-2♦ is 2♥=7-10 4M; 2♠=11+ 4M; 2N=11+5M; 3m=9-11 4M5m; 3♥=7-10 5M unbal (3♠ and 3N ask); 3♠=7-10 5332; 3N=6322; 4x=splinter with 6M.
  4. Of course there is no real definition of "natural" of course at that point of the auction; 3♠ is basically "I don't want to commit to either game (3N, 4♥, 4♠) and if you don't want to play in 3N then 4♠ should have some chances". So really some sort of 4SF I think (but playing it as a pure 4SF would run afoul of the GCC so well...).
  5. Actually I just realized that responder may be a little too weak for 3♣ (I don't really know...) so the auction may start 1♣-1♦; 2♠-3♣ and now we're at the same same spot as you are after three rounds.
  6. Not very scientific for me... 1♣-3♣ (Polish; natural invite) 3♠-4♣ 6♣
  7. Three auctions for me. Classic Polish club: P-1♣! 1♥-2♦! (natural; 18+ 3+♥, not two suited with only 3 hearts) 3♦-3♠ (natural canapé; natural) 4♠ 1♦ opening: 1♦-1♠ (unbalanced 11-18; natural) 2♣!-3♣! (4♥-5+♦ 11-15; 4SF) 3♦-3♠ 4♠ 2♥ opening (in my actual partnership) 2♥-2♠ (8-11 exactly 4♥ unbalanced and 0-3♠; the rest is natural for GCC compliance :)) 3♦-3♥ 3♠-4♠
  8. The overcall is on the other side.
  9. Same issue about 5♣ here... it should be exclusion but who knows? :) 1♣-1♥ (1♠) (Polish; 7+ 4+♥) 2♦ (2♠) 3♣ (18+ 3+♥; 9-11 4♥5+♣) 3♥-4♣ (sets trumps; serious cue) 5♣-5♦ (ERKCB, 1/4) 6♥ (the spade hook is marked and partner has a doubleton) If I don't feel confident that 5♣ won't be passed jumping to 6 (opposite 9-11...) doesn't sound crazy either.
  10. Polish: 1♣-1♥ (hehe) 2N-3♠ (18-23 balanced with exactly 2 hearts; natural) 4♠ Perhaps the auction will make ♥A and ♥ ruff harder to find? :-)
  11. If East raises the double to 3♦ I'll bid 3♥ and get to the same spot.
  12. I doubt you imagined that my actual auction would have been 2♥-2N (8-11 exactly 4♥ unbalanced, 0-3♠; asking) 3♦-3N (natural min; to play) but this is not really Polish club, so I'll propose P-1♣ (Polish) 1♥-2♦ (7+ 4+♥; 18+ 3+♥) 2♥-2N (7-bad 9 exactly 4♥; natural) 3♦-3N (natural; natural) instead. One option would have been to jump directly to 3N over 2♥, as I don't think there are that many hands where 4♥ on a moysian will be best (what do you think?) and this auction tends to indicate diamond weakness in declarer's hand. Another option would be to play 3♦ over 2♦ as 7-11 4♥-5+♦ (so P-1♣; 1♥-2♦; 3♦-3N) but I play this as a max (9-11) instead (didn't put a lot of thought in it, perhaps the other way is better). Did you think of something else? By the way, any reason why the imprecision auction doesn't jump to 3N directly over 2♥?
  13. I think my auction will be 1♣-1♦ (1♠); X-1N; 2♦-3♣; 3♠-4♣; ??? (for the reasons I explained above) and now I think the honest answer is that I will take my plus in 5♣ most of the time but may bid 6 depending on my mood/table feel/state of the match... so 5♣ (6♣?) looks honest to me.
  14. I agree with your assessment that the Polish club auction is not very comfortable but I think there is still some chance to reach 6♣ after responder shows some (limited) slam interest by bidding 4♣ instead of 5. The question is whether this can still come from a hand like Qxx Ax xx xxxxxx or does that necessarily imply two working cards. Not really clear to me but opposite two working cards slam is fine so...
  15. Polish club: 1♣-1♦ (Polish; negative or various others) 1♠-2♣ (better major in a WNT or 4♠-5+♣ 15-17 or 5+♠ 18-20; 5+♣ unbal 5-11 (not 6 good if 9-11)) 2♥-4♠ (5+♠-4+♥ 18-20; everybody seems to like responder's hand so I won't even invite opposite 18-20) Note that 1♠ could easily come from a 3234 12-count so a direct raise is necessarily four cards :-)
  16. Polish, assuming a pass (not by me) in first seat: P; 1♣-2♣ (9-11 good suit); 2♥-3♣; 3♠-3N.
  17. If double is penalty what do you rebid with ~Axx Qx Axx AKxxx? (slam opposite xx AKJxx xxx Qxx, not to say that I would find it) Here you may see a difference between American style (1N overcall I guess?) and the French style which mandates one and a half stopper for (1M)-1N (at least when I learnt it).
  18. I think Polish club (WJ05) has the same problem as described by relknes, but it is even worse because 1♦ also has to cover (8)9-11 hands with a bad minor or both bad minors, so jumping to 3♣ over the double is really overstating the strength. My agreements are not very firm here but I also think 2♠ would tend to indicate both minors. And after 2♣ it will be fairly awkward for responder to convince partner that he doesn't have a 4225 yarborough, so I'm kind of stuck with 1N here. But perhaps better Polish clubbers can give their opinion? In which case the auction would start 1♣-1♦ (1♠); X-1N; 2♦-3♣; 3♠-4♣ (want to play 3NT? - not really, and arguably sets trumps) (at least now responder doesn't have to overstate his stopper) but now it's too late for opener to agree clubs and keycard (well probably it makes sense to play 4N=keycard 3014 here... but this kind of switch (from 1430) is disaster-prone). Now I'm "definitely kind of" resulting here but if responder had a hand unsuitable for slam he could directly jump to 5♣ over 3♠, so I guess 4♣ should show some slam interest and opener can jump to 6♣. But honestly I don't know whether I'll land in the club game or the club slam. Edit: If North has to start with 2♣ I *could* see something like 1♣-1♦ (1♠); X-2♣; 2♦ (force to 3♦)-2♠ (~5-8, GF); 3♣-3♥ (values); 4♣ (slam try/RKCB)-4♥ (1 with (relative) slam interest); 4♠ (♣Q?)-6♣ (yes) But if opener doesn't support clubs over 2♠ it's going to be ugly, and technically 2♠ could still come from a 3334 hand. So it's not obvious at all.
  19. Beginning will be different in Polish club as 3♣ would show one of the (Polish) semipositives included in the 1♦ response: 9-11 with 6 poor clubs (but likely not (322)6). So I guess we'll start 1♣-1♦ (1♠); X-2♣; 2♦-??? If partner bids 2♥ I'll splinter with 3♠, if partner bids 2♠ I'll bid 3♦ I guess (suggesting trumps; if partner doesn't raise and doesn't bid 3N I'll suggest clubs next); if partner bids 2N I'll raise to 3 (same remark as dake50 about spade wastage); if partner bid 3♣ I'll raise to four (technically he could still have a 3325 yarborough or so, so that sucks a little bit... perhaps 3♣ should be weak here? with stronger hands going through 2♠. In which case I'll bid 3N over 3♣.).
  20. Polish club: 1♣-1♦ (Polish; 0-8 (no 4cM if 7-8) or 9-11 with a bad minor or both minors or 12-16 balanced, intending to be dummy in 3NT opposite a WNT) 1N-2♥ (18-20; transfer 0-6) 2♠-3♣ (natural invite) 4♠ or if North is deemed worth of a positive (my hand evaluation sucks :)): 1♣-1♠ (7+) 2♦-3♥ (18+ 3+♠ not highly unbalanced; exactly 5 spades, 7-10 unbalanced) 3N-4♣ (side suit?; clubs) (not sure whether it's really worth asking but a priori parter could still have K9xxx Ax KTxxx x for a decent slam) 4♠
  21. The hand suits perfectly a 1♥ opening in Polish club, intending to jump shift... so I'll have the same auction too.
  22. Polish club: 1♣ - 1♠ (7+, 4+♠); 2N (18-22ish balanced with 2♠) - 3N (yes that 2N rebid sucks, but 2♦ is artificial, 18+ 3+♠ here). Here is the sim: $ redeal -S '65 AKT6 KQ965 AK' --accept 'return deal.north.shape == [5, 3, 1, 4] and 4 <= deal.north.qp <= 5' --init 'self.HS = self.NS = self.HN = self.NN = 0' --do 'self.HS += deal.dd_score("4HS") > 0; self.HN += deal.dd_score("4HN") > 0; self.NS += deal.dd_score("3NS") > 0; self.NN += deal.dd_score("3NN") > 0'\ --final 'print(self.HS, self.HN, self.NS, self.NN)' -n1000 811 815 867 874 So double dummy 3N (from either side) is ~5% better than 4♥. On the other hand 4♥ is better at matchpoints.
  23. Too weak for a Polish 1♣ so will be using a regular SNT system here.
  24. Not really sure about this one but I expect something like - pass 1♣ (Polish) - 1♦ (0-7(-8 if no 4cM)) (1♥) X (T/O or strong) - 2♦ 2♠ (2♠ on first round would be 18-20ish I think) - 3♣ 3♦ - 3♥ (stopper?) 3N... or 4♠?
