It is true that we can know the partnership number of controls but setting trump has some other advantages doesn't it? Or am I missing something? Playing Precision 1♣ opener is captain. Therefore you dont set trump, captain decides the contract. How can I ask about the trump Q? Ordinary way or look into Power Precision OK I was not clear. How does opener set trump after (for example) 1C 3D big; 4144 or 4414 2-3 controls fewer than 13 HCP 3H 3S shortness?; Diamond shortness So if opener now bids 4M that is to play. So my question is how does opener set trump and still be sure to get another bid? Game is final bid. All other bids are asking. As far as I read you 3♠ by responder means he holds 4-4-1-4, 4-4-0-5. Then 4♣, 4♦, 4NT, 5♥ and 5♠ are all asking. Normally it is meaningless but 5♦ will also tend to be asking.

I have left this table to join a tournament
csdenmark replied to koba's topic in Suggestions for the Software
By me they do so once only - then they are blacklisted. Impossible to understand why BBO still has a rule informing it is a fatal misconduct to leave a table during play and they are the first to break their own rules. This is the difference between moral and double-moral. -
I think there is a problem about Jannersten. He has published some booklets which look like extensions to his SUPER-precision version. I have one of them but not studied. Looks strange to me to do so.
-
As I remember you are no novice so an advanced version will probably be right for you. Belladonna/Garozzo is of course the real Precision versions in bridge. An alternative will be Power Precision by Weichsel/Sontag. If you prefer relay versions there are at least 2, Icelandic(book not available anymore) and Viking.

Forcing Pass Systems

Never in history it has been simpler to do something to turn the direction away from disaster. Empathy is nice but 790 posts has proved worth nothing. Dry your tears Nick. Action is needed. -
who cares? if the forum works well all the relevant posters will filter in. Besides, i expect that: - a lot of the discussions will not be related to systems, but rather cardplay - a lot of the bidding problems will be system independent (make slam try or not? show shortness or not? etc.) - there aren't that many experts on the methods mentioned above on the forums anyway. if the forum works well all the relevant posters will filter in. The Forum does not work well else this thread would not come up a lot of the discussions will not be related to systems, but rather cardplay Correct - but the threads with questions are mostly related to the auction a lot of the bidding problems will be system independent (make slam try or not? show shortness or not? etc.) Correct - No need calling for experts to explain basics there aren't that many experts on the methods mentioned above on the forums anyway This is the real problem. There are not so many experts available. And those available are not experts about what is important to those who asks.

This Forum lives from and is driven from questions about cultural problems. Alert- and cheating are the most frequent topics. Very much of it is americans with lack of knowledge of rules and habits applied to by poles, french, italians, swedes and turks. Therefore the questions and accusations to come up. This Forum has been living for many years. In the same period several similar Forums based in one culture have been shut down. They cannot produce these kind of questions and quarrels and they simply dry out. The question is: - Who are the experts to explain about polish methods? - Who are the experts to explain about french methods? - Who are the experts to explain about swedish methods? - Who are the experts to explain about turkish methods? - Who are the experts to explain about italian methods?
-
I completely agree that this is the good and probably the most easy solution to implement. I think the problem which is of most importance is the cultural problem. We need much more persons from non-english speaking countries. Great bridge nations like Poland and Italy are rarely posting here. With the exception of US I think the most frequent bridge player on BBO is from Turkey. Those are also invisible in this Forum. International bridge is much more than USA and ACBL.

Yes the book is very difficult to read. You will be able to buy the notes for both versions at www.bridgefiles.net

Director! As partners, you are not allowed to use this information. :o I use DNP (do not play) on a players profile if I want to avoid playing with or against them. The only down side in adding comments on their profile is that if you receive an game invite from the player, you don’t see the comment. If they are marked as enemy you can tell. There is more more about player profiles. That info is hold by BBO only and if you have too much of that stuff some of it will be discarded. So the information as I remember from Uday some years ago. This means edit player info is good but not water proof. Enemy option is the only water proof option you have.

Store it on web and share your files. 'Windows Live Sync.' and 'Drop Box' are 2 different methods for syncronizations. You dont need to walk around with your files. I doubt you need to worry about deleting files on BBO. But if you care try delete it on your computer or just empty the file. -

Bridge on TV in the U.S.

I have my computers connected to my TV-sets. This means I have bridge on TV. I don't use the option - the offers are too boring. -
Public survey about system regulation
csdenmark replied to csdenmark's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
This question seems more than a little leading. I will add mine to the chorus of voices that thinks an internet survey, especially one conducted on BBO forums would in no way be representative of general membership in the ACBL (or likely any other national bridge organization). I wouldn't dream of such Tim. Has nothing to do with BBO Forum members. The intension was to ask Fred to add a link to an external web-site on his login-announcement wheel. In this way there would be a fairly good chance to reach 25.000 - 50.000 persons within a period of 14 days I think. 20% of those are likely to be members of ACBL. According to Fred's last information this is no option. The case is closed - at least unless somebody else come up with proposals. -
Public survey about system regulation
csdenmark replied to csdenmark's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Fred my intensions was to ask you to display an announcement on BBO and a WEB-site link to a site with a multiple choice scheme for approx. 10 questions. In that way I hope it will be possible to reach persons will all kind of background. I think the proposal which came up was worth more consideration than just to go under in a big thread. I read your comment as mostly based on economy. I think the economic issue do not need to be there if it is done on internet. In my view it will be right to find ways to have a better knowledge about what we are talking about. The other thread was started, as always, with some sort of bashing ACBL. But the problem is not only for ACBL - it is for bridge in general. I have raised the voice for other persons in bridge to post hoping for some information about how we have reached where we are today. 2 persons posted interesting information but much more is needed I think. For example I think it would be really interesting to have some polish information. Peter Gill has given some information from Australia - very balanced information about his worries about youth work. Basically I think the persons in bridge organizations also will be interested to know if they are on right track or not. Costs are always a topic - so the doubt they may have, need to be weighted against other kind of tasks - and they have decided the way you argumented I think. Is there a way to be wiser? I think and hope all will be interested to be wiser. -
In the thread about forcing pass systems a proposal came up asking for ACBL to conduct a member survey about system regulation. The proposal looked to be going under after Fred declared it costly and not worth the effort. I think it will be possible to create an internet survey which don't need to involve costs. Such a survey is not exactly the same but may still be fairly representative. I think it is worth giving it a try. Do you think it is better to know nothing and continuing discussions in the dark or do you think we ought to try to be a little bit better informed?

A simple internet test-poll to be displayed via announcement on BBO does not need to involve costs. How about that? -

Fred the judicial principles are quite different over here Frances has told in this thread. They are according to ordinary judicial principles and therefore easy to justify. Bridgeplayers over here are just as happy with those rules as your assumption for american players. I think the basic reason simply is that only few bridgeplayers are affected of specific rules. To most the rules are the logic of the game - a priori rules. You say present situation is justified because 140/150 are satisfied. They are not affected, have never been and will never be. Yes Fred I am radical - I hope you are too! Please name me a person who have accomplished anything without being seen as a radical one way or the other. Radicals are needed to be able to find the relevant responses to what the world need now. Administrators and mediators are needed too but without radicals their world would go under very quickly. What the bridge world needs now is a radical turnaround. Even that will only affect a small part of the members - but it is those for whom bridge is more than just a social weekly community get-together. Bridge needs to be exposed and must be changed to be fit for that. The general age for bridge players will always be relatively high but it must come down to be able to survive. -

Fred I know quite well that Jan is doing a great job for american bridge. I am, like you, very impressed of what she is doing. I am only in a position to read what I can see from the USBF-web-site and I can see her influence and seriousity is highly admirable. You read my comment as a personal insult - I am sorry it can be read that way. That was completely unintended. I dont know how to edit that out and still let the expression about the topic stay, which one I still stand to, stay - so I have deleted the post entirely. -

HUM and BSC - are they worth it?
csdenmark replied to paulg's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I guess I don't really understand why this is a problem. I am not proposing this for other countries, just for my country's team. Like everyone, I want my country to perform to the best of its ability at major championships and, in my opinion, for my team, keeping seating rights is more important. Paul I guess I don't really understand why this is a problem. Really you dont understand Paul? If you want the best perspectives for your national team it must be fit for international competition. It must get practice with international behavior and features. As long as your teams only competes against each other on national level there is no problem about your proposal - but thats not what your proposal is about. As long as your teams only competes against international teams consisting of casual partners, like Camrose, there is no problem about your proposal - but thats not what your proposal is about. If they want to be fit for European and World Championships they must be able to master they challenge they will face. Nowadays the whole world of bridge is encrippled by regulations, but even that may be too much for your team used to compete behind protection walls. The logic, and I think it is the only way your proposal can be understood, is that it will be step 1 for a concerted action for still more regulation. That process will not stop until we totally reach beginner level. If you want to make a constructive contribution for your team I think you will have some ideas reading the insightful article posted by the swede Ulven yesterday about how features challenges your mental prepareness to compete. Ask your national organization to add some kind of mental training for your team. It is not only psychologists but also physical training and food plans. Of course such kind of programmes will be more difficult to introduce in bridge than for other sports because of the age of the competitors. But still it is the way ahead, for your team too I am sure.
