  2. I think you have a problem Helene. What is a 'serious tournament'? Certainly a nice plus word. Is there any meaning in it or is it only an empty statement? I understand that using FD discredit tournaments not to be serious. Can you think of a tournament without convention card to be serious? As you may have deducted from my former statements I think the non-serious ones are the bridge organizations which still allow 80 years old fundamentals to be here in modern times of information technology. It is quite scandalous that their lawmakers have not been fired for incompetence.
  3. Tony - maybe time for you to think over why the rule you refer to is there.
  4. Such people undoubtedly cheat at Patience - sigh The Lawmakers are sleeping soundly, I agree, but my main point is that BBO should not be seen to be encouraging the unlawful misuse of the site Tony Tony any rule, also bridge-rules, are binding only to members of a community. And only inside the community. Cheating means unlawful behavior. If there are no law it is obvious there can be no break of a law. Your use of the word 'cheating' is not right in place. I certainly understand what you mean. You are not the only one using this kind of speaking, but the basis for the argument is missing and therefore the statement is false.
  5. Then the players use an alternative version invisible to you. You think such is better?
  6. There is no such on internet Tony. In virtual world we all have our own rules. This means table host or tournament organizer individually decide what to apply to. Mostly that will just be basic rules for family bridge. Thats one of the important problems caused by the old world lawmakers to fall into deep deep sleep.
  7. If you need to catch a train you have just been running wild.
  8. Perhaps it is perfectly legal for a player in Denmark to give a full explanation of every bid he makes to his partner, perhaps modern bridge would benefit greatly for all bids to be explained to all players, but I prefer to adhere to the old-fashioned rules of the game Tony You refer to my country in the old world. The world for taxes, wellfare, children and no FD-convention cards. In the virtual world, internet, we have FD-convention cards but no bridge rules. The rules which are to be used are those normally used for family bridge. Thats basic rules which constitutes the game and differentiate it from other kind of games. The lawmakers and the organizations have been very sleepy even they ought to wake up. They have been sleeping for at least 10 years now. I think such ought to be enough to manage a fresh start. Pity Tony you have chosen to put your head on the shoulders of those you ought to run away from. I think thats the poorest option of those you have.
  9. In editor mode you go into each entry and press delete button. Then the entry is gone. If this looks difficult then open the file in an editor-application and simply delete all content from the file. Keep the file else you have nothing for BBO to update. I am not sure how to delete a card from BBO display but if is empty you wont see it. Worth to give a try I think.
  10. Pure rubbish. Time is long overdue for the bridge community to arrive in modern times
  11. The much more interesting question is what happens the day top players reject to play tournaments without audience of a certain number? They all know that nowadays sport is no longer only for fun but for money. Without audience there will be no sponsors and no tournaments. Will the organizers or BBO be able to guarantee 2.000 or more spectators for their matches? For many it is waste and poor marketing to play without spectators. I think some have already noticed lack of interest.
  12. This was Harold Vanderbilt. According to introduction by Waldemar von Zedtwitz to the book "The Club Convention". Zedtwitz was a partner of Vanderbilt and co-inventor of the system. Vanderbilt wrote four books. Three were prior to 1934, assuming 'The Cub Convention' was published in 1934. As Vanderbilt invented bridge in 1925 the first club system must have been invented 1925-1934. Probably some before as it looks like they played the system in some form in 1932. The book I have is from 1964.
  13. You have never tried to push the players in direction of taking advantage of your great application helping themselves playing serious bridge. I have never understood why.
  14. Please put such information to where it belongs - your convention card
  15. In my preferred methods responders first bid must be Game Forcing. 2-level transfers are rarely so. In this auction responder may bid whatever he wants to except 4♠ which can be misunderstood as end.
  16. 1) I pass. Can be difficult enough 2) I pass. I wont risk misunderstandings 3) I lead diamonds. My values are running nowhere but a possible ruff is likely to. 5 diamonds out likely to be 2-3
  17. This approach looks silly to me. I think it is fairly standard that Stayman is start for GF. Any other point in changing that than confusion? I see no point in 2-level GF transfers - better to use 4-level transfers for that. The solid way you will find by many players - one of the solid pairs are Belladonna-Garozzo.
  18. David I have no interest in a discussion about the beard of the emperor. I will therefore not comment all what you write and comment. The most important is whether there today is a separation between online and offline. I say there is not - there is a simple automatization of offline bridge and that is now called online bridge. That works unacceptable poorly today and won't work at all in the future. I think it is doomed to be swept away. The day you will see a separation you will no doubt know it. One of the reasons I think why is because it is doubtfull the platform and the computer which will be that used for administrative tasks. It will probably be more like World of Warcraft than the way BBO looks and works today. I think you will spend your time well trying to reduce the rules to what constitutes the game. And from that create two separate rails, a fairly simple one for offline bridge and a more complex one for online bridge.
  19. I dont think so - but if then it is because the world many facetted. Maybe something important from Iceland come to your mind? My recent memory is about financial hokus-pokus. We have suffered from that for years - and now it has come to end. We all welcome that. The Nordic Sagas, the icelandic handwritings are famous. They also have some world known authors like Haldor Laxness. I also think they elected the first woman for president.
  20. Not to Icelanders! I looked that up and you are correct. They looks not switching summer/winter. I assume they are situated so far north that the reason, saving power consumption, makes no real sense there. Apart from their famous history it looks like Iceland has very little to offer useful to anybody. A great bridge system perhaps! It's not clear that daylight savings actually saves on energy usage. In fact, some studies suggest it uses more energy. I wish they'd just do away with it entirely. Bjørn Lomborg and the people gathering around Copenhagen Consensus perhaps. Nobody cares. Reducing power is not the only purpose of summer time. It is generally good for human beings health to have most possible daylight. Summer time is helpful for that. What I dont understand is why we do not have summer time all the year because even in winter we would have positive effects from that.

  22. You will find what you are asking for on bridgefiles web-sites
  23. We can read it and understand it. Because of summer/winter time switches GMT is today obsolete to ordinary persons. I think it still is so that american summer/winter time switches differently from at least Europe. The present way using local browser time is the only well working solution, as Uday mentioned. If someone is using a computer with uncorrect settings he has a personal problem.
  24. Fine with that but it is still far below 1% of the bridge players. There is still a very long way to go until bridge players have adopted the modern way of life.
