EPV = ? -
Let it go Barry. I've seen this all too often. When someone runs out of arguments they resort to this sort of thing as "their final stand" to gain the upperhand. It doesn't worry me in the least, just like water running off a ducks back.

Did you delete the thread Barry? I can't find it?

What's the point of "Manage your ignored users?"
32519 replied to 32519's topic in Suggestions for the Software
So tell me exactly why you - 1. Are reading this thread? 2. Already replied twice in it? since you have so often stated that I am one of YOUR IGNORED USERS! -
What's the point of "Manage your ignored users?"

OK, so it would appear as though there is a genuine desire for this function to be refined. Step 1: Now I’m not a computer geek so I need the geeks to help here. To ensure that you can never read anything from your “Ignored users” again, can the programmers set the function to identify you via your IP address i.e. identify you without the need to actually login into the forums? This way even if you are just browsing the forums as a “Guest” you still won’t be able to read anything from your ignored users. Step 2: Split the function into two – 1. Users that I follow, and 2. Users that I ignore Step 3: I’ve got MrACE as one of my “Ignored users.” That helps absolutely squat when he posts in my threads (or a thread that I am following). When I read what others have replied I inevitably come across what he posted as well. In this thread he has already posted twice (number 3 and number 11). So how can I block him out completely? Once I’ve added someone’s name to my list of “Ignored users” I need the software to collapse posts 3 and 11 for me so that I can never see them (similar to the “spoiler” function that we see people using all the time). The software must not allow a show/hide option. It gets hardcoded to “hide.” The only way it must permit me to read what my “Ignored users” have posted is to remove them from my list. With posts 3 and 11 completely hidden, I must not even be able to tell which of my ignored users has posted something here. Doing it this way, people can rant and rave and say whatever they want. It won’t matter as I cannot read it until I remove their names from my “Ignored users.” So to keep you happy, this idea is back on the table. -

Here's another question on this issue. Many only login with their user ID's when they actually want to post something. So if you're just browsing the forums as a "Guest," how exactly do you go about ignoring your "Ignored Users?" You can fool all the people some of the time, and you can fool some of the people all the time, but you can never fool all the people all the time. So what am I actually saying? The "Ignored user" function is a complete waste of time, money and energy. I withdraw my suggesting in the post higher up this thread. -

The programmers need to rethink this. Split it into two - 1. Users that I follow (no need for the paradox principle now), and 2. Users that I ignore. Now you need to be creative and find a way that any posts from these users really can be ignored e.g. an automatic show/hide for the user in question. Until you remove the user from your "Manage your ignored users," the automatic "hide" function will ENSURE that you really can't read anything your ignored user posts. Barmar/Inquiry Send this proposal to Rain (or whoever does the programming). Now we will really have some satisfied formum members! :) -
The thread title says it all. Manage your ignored users Name Group Posts Ignore Posts Ignore Messages Add a new user to your list • Member's Name o Ignore Personal Conversations o Ignore Posts or Cancel Ignore "Personal Conversations" is fine. But "Ignore Posts?" What does the system software do if your "Ignored User" makes a reply in one of your threads? How do you ignore that?

Fred Gitelman: On behalf of Lurpoa I am requesting you to have her membership to the forum's restored. To have someone excluded because of a few ♥ symbols in their posts is ridiculous. Yet others using vulgar language are permitted to retain their membership in direct contravention of BBO Terms of Service. The two posts below were copied off Lurpoa's profile. If you don't know what this is about, click here. Nice question Stephanie. I hope you get a proper answer.

What happened to Lurpua? Why was she kicked out of the forums?

So just because I'm challenging the logic behind someone's favourite convention(s) I'm provoking them. B-) If that's all it takes to raise your ire, how do you stand up in a real discussion? Everyone has their full right to be wrong. Some are just more wrong than others more often. :)

As for you and your champions, go and read BBO Terms of Service. I am surprised one of the forum moderators hasn’t got hold of you yet.

Seems like you never read the CC properly. So I’ll help you with some extracts – 1C = 14+ (good 12/13) 1D = 14+ (good 12/13) 1H = 14+ (good 12/13) 5+ H OR 11-13 with 5+ H and 4S 1S = 14+ (good 12/13) 5+ S OR 11-13 with 5+ S and 4H What am I getting at? With 5+ H and 4S, 11-13 HCP, they open 1H With 5+S and 4H, 11-13 HCP, they open 1S With a 5-card major and a 4-card minor, 10-13 HCP, they open 2 of the major See above. Clearly you never read the CC before posting this. It will never be 5521 as you suggested. What am I getting at? The number 1 and 2 ranked players in the world play sound 2H and 2S openings with unbalanced hands, whether that is a 6-card suit or 5M4m. They allow lesser mortals to make silly pre-empts (Garbage Multi/Muiderberg) and then extract favourable penalty doubles from them or make thin games because the hand layout and HCP distribution has been gifted to them. Why all the venom that is continuously being spat out? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that an intermediate is challenging the logic behind your favourite convention(s)? There has been a lot of interest in many of these types of threads. So until I start the next one……cheers!

After reading all the nonsense posted here, your original auction was fine. No need to change it. -

Nice problem. This thread is quite obviously directly linked to your other thread where you asked is 3♠ forcing. East cannot use 5♣ as Voidwood as ♣ had already been bid twice. My guess is this is what actually happened at the table: [hv=d=w&v=0&b=8&a=1cp1sp2cp2hp2np3sp4sp4n(RKCB)p5h(2%20without%20queen)p6sppp]133|100[/hv] Did you make 6? Where was the ♦K and how did the ♠ break? -
Hmmm, some more wisdom from the forum. We are talking here about the players ranked number 1 and 2 in the world. These guys have upped the HCP value to 10-13 versus the wisdom of the forum who still insists on 5-10 HCP with a hand which could be 5M4m. I rest my case. When it's a 6-card card major, it's still 10-13 HCP. These guys don't waste time with stuff like Garbage Multi.
-
Exactly how many wannabees do you think copy whatever Fantoni/Nunes do? Here is a link to their Convention Card. Amuse yourself and have a look at how they describe their 2♥ and 2♠ bids. Sure it's not Muiderberg, but it does say 10-13 HCP unbalanced, 5+ in the suit. So if it's exactly 5 and unbalanced, presumeably there are 4 cards in a minor suit.
-
Now here's a thought. The trend is towards a Weak Only Multi, 5-9 HCP. The 2♥ and 2♠ bids being used for a sound weak 2 in the suit, 10-13 HCP. Stated differently, the trend is away from Muiderberg.
-
We are talking about Garbage Multi here. So let us compare my 2S bid with your 2NT bid: 1. I am saving a step 2. Your 2NT is effectively showing slam interest. I am not sure how realistic this is for a Garbage Multi? For a normal Multi which allows up to 10 HCP, absolutely! Keep the door open for slam. But for a hand which tops off at 8 and whose primary purpose is destructive? Bear in mind that the current trend is towards “destructive.” 3. Your GF hands can go via 4C or 4D. Not sure I want to do this opposite a 3-5 HCP hand? 4. Your invite hands go via 2D-3D. My structure has no invite. It asks for hand strength/suit quality and then signs off in 3M or 4M. Additionally, with your invite hands, the stronger hand is exposed on the table. 5. The 2M p/c paradox takes you to level 3 anyway when you reply 2S and opener has H. Again the stronger hand is exposed on the table. My 2S structure allows me to ascertain openers strength and suit along the way. It also keeps the stronger hand as declarer.

If I wanted to play in ♥, would a direct 3♥ response work i.e. bypassing Lebensohl and therefore more pre-emptive? Lebensohl and then bidding ♥ (or ♠ with the appropriate hand) could possibly show a stronger hand inviting game if opener is max (6-8 and 2-card support? Would that be an improvement? See reply above. 2NT as Lebensohl still allows me to show ♣ without the bid being misunderstood. Thanks for something positive :)

Just to keep you happy as well the typo was fixed. If you've got nothing to add, then add nothing!

A request to the EBU players: How about this for a Garbage Only Multi continuation sequence? Can it work? What must I change? This suggestion used the 2D-4C sequence as the anchor around which the rest has been devised, where the 4C bid is asking opener to transfer into whichever major he has. Here’s the deal – 2D-Pass = (The hand belongs to the opponents, I got crap but D) 2D-2H = Pass/correct, the hand belongs to the opponents (Before you reject this option outright, remember that your teammates in the closed room will have the strong hand; the board may still turn out to be flat) 2D-2S = I have game values if we can find a fit but can support only 1 major, not necessarily S. Tell me more about your hand. The continuation bidding would go like this – .........2NT = My suit is H not S to keep you as the declarer …………3C = We have a fit, tell me how good/bad your opening was ……………3D = Bad, 3-5 HCP, not necessarily in H (responder will signoff in 3H) ……………4D = Good, 6-8 HCP, mostly in the H suit (responder will signoff in 4H) …………3H = To play, no fit …….3C = My suit is S, bad Multi, 3-5 HCP …….3D = My suit is S, good Multi, 6-8 HCP, mostly in the S suit …….(Depending on the degree of fit and the response, responder signs off in 3S or 4S) 2D-2NT = Lebensohl (responder has a single suited hand and wants to play in his suit) 2D-3C = Game values, support for both majors, transfer into your suit at the appropriate level please …….3D = My suit is H, bad Multi, 3-5 HCP …….3H = My suit is S, bad Multi, 3-5 HCP …….4D = My suit is H, good Multi, 6-8 HCP …….4H = My suit is S, good Multi, 6-8 HCP 2D-3D = D pre-empt, the hand belongs to the opponents, let them figure out which major suit fit they have Because this is the Garbage Multi, I never went past 3D for the continuation bidding. I’m inviting the other forum posters to extend/complete/adjust/modify this sequence.
