"King-Jack tight," "Ace-King tight" means KJ or AK doubleton. bid what is in front of your nose: look at your hand and see what is the most obvious feature, then choose the bid that will obviously convey this to partner. tap: when on defense, to lead a suit that declarer is void in so as to reduce declarer's trumps. If you continually "tap" declarer every time you are on lead you are employing a "forcing defense." "4 by 3": a hand with 4-3-3-3 distribution. flat: a hand with no particular important distributional feature is "flat," typically a hand with 4-3-3-3 or 5-3-3-2 distribution. the death distribution: A hand which has one long suit of six or seven cards but otherwise has no singleton (a hand with 7-2-2-2, for example) is known as the "death distribution" as pre-empting with these hands seems to result in worse penalties than other hands with identical length in the long suit. shape: a hand with shape is one with interesting distribution, a singleton and/or two suits being common elements. The opposite of flat. "Sure you had a nine-count, but it was a shapely nine-count!" six-bagger, seven-bagger: a suit of that length. fixed: when an opponent you consider quite a bit worse than you takes a wild anti-percentage bid or play that happens to strike gold. Also a term used in discussing a certain restricted choice situation -- where you are playing a suit where all you are missing in top cards are the queen and the jack, you can say, "When you cash the king, a quack falls on your right; do you finesse now or go for the drop?" Here "quack" is short for a queen or a jack. duck: nothing to do with a quack, "duck" is a verb in bridge. To "duck" a trick is to refuse to play one's only high card in the opponent's long suit for a round or two, with the purpose of cutting communications between the defenders, or in some other situations, improving declarer's own communications. It strikes me as a very funny term; the image I guess is of a very tall person ducking objects being thrown at them? crocodile coup: a defensive brilliancy, usually near the end of a hand, where the first defender to play to the trick wins with a card greater than necessary to "swallow" his partner's remaining singleton honor. If you are cheap and refuse to play this unnecessarily high card, your partner will have to win the trick and is end-played. The crocodile coup is a strange-looking play for it appears you are intentionally "crashing" your partner's honor-card. insult cue-bid: a convention by which if the opponents cue-bid your suit, you take revenge by cue-bidding their suit. "not through the Iron Duke": This is one of the first bridge expressions people learn, although I imagine it must go back to whist. It is used only in a joking way as a defensive play whereby you take great pleasure in covering a relatively low card declarer leads with the obvious intention of ruffing. You say, as you cover the 9, say, with your J, "Not through the Iron Duke!" and everyone laughs. Guaranteed!

These forums are dominated by this clique who gang bash all who they disagree with, or who they perceive as a threat to their pet beliefs or pet topics or pet conventions (choose whatever pet you want to add here). They are like forever upvoting each others posts which is one of the ways that keeps them together. Which makes one wonder if there is any reason for the system in the first place.

Once that happens the Roman Catholic Church will be able to publish on the front page of every major newspaper across the world something like this: “We, the Roman Catholic Church, dangled a carrot in front of the evolutionists, knowing that it was just a matter of time before some or other carrot-snatcher would come along and SNATCH OUR CARROT, and now that it has happened they got carrots! The physicists have brought down the evolution theory with the stupidity of the Big Bang Theory.” So I think the Pope was quite ingenious to dangle the carrot out waiting for the carrot-snatcher to come along. With this post I am signing out of the BBO Forums (much to the relief of most of you) to watch the things posted here unfold, the first of which will be the stock markets slowly inching up to new heights never seen before (nor ever will be seen again). What or where would an alternative be to build up your retirement nest egg? I cannot remember the details, but the Inland Revenue Services in my own country, not too long ago, started making proposals something along these lines: From day one that are registered as a tax-payer, on the same day your very own retirement funding account gets opened with them, alongside and linked to your tax number. Every month when you receive your salary, a percentage, governed by the current retirement funding laws, gets paid into this account (instead of handing it over to some or other pension fund administrator). All monies PAID INTO this account are 100% free from all costs/fees etc. which the pension fund administrators currently siphon off. The IRS will have the use of this money, either replacing, or at least partially reducing, the need for the issuing of Government Bonds to raise additional funds for the fiscus. At the end of every month the IRS will credit this retirement funding account of yours with a fair value market related interest rate. You will be able to monitor and watch your own nest egg grow by logging into the IRS service via the internet, much like you can do now to fill in your income tax return online. Taxing of whatever has been accumulated into this account, will only be upon every withdrawal. Withdrawals are governed by reaching retirement age, death, emigration, unemployment etc. As more and more people see their life savings disappear with every market crash, these pension fund administrators are being seen as parasites, parasites taking fat commissions from your hard earned money to pay themselves fat salaries at zero risk to themselves. A rethink of the entire industry is long overdue.

The tragedy here is that the innocent are going to be burned along with the greedy. Your hard earned pension deductions get paid over to some or other firm who invests it on your behalf, most of it ending up in the stock market. The firm doing the investing never loses. They take a % commission on everything they manage. When the market turns belly-up, all they do is shrug their shoulders and say, “It was out of our control.” The same goes for private investors making use of a broker. The broker takes his commission regardless of what happens to your money. The employees of these firms continue earning their fat salaries while you have to start from square one again to build up your retirement nest egg. In my own country the number of broking firms who appear overnight and disappear just as quickly are “a-dime-a-dozen.” There have been enough cases of the broking firms simply vanishing with your hard earned money when they believe the pot is full enough to live off it wherever they end up fleeing to.

I am quite happy to join with you in poking fun at both Jesus and Christianity. Why? Neither have any place with the Elohim of the Jews. Neither names occur in the ORIGINAL eye-witness accounts, letters and books which make up the New Covenant (calling it the New Testament is an attempt to distance Yahweh as its originator. The Old Covenant came through Abraham). The Vatican currently have their very own Edward Snowden, either a current or a former employee, who has/had access to the ORIGINAL documents and is starting to leak their contents out. In the ORIGINAL documents, it was Yehoshua (not Jesus) who was the chosen son of Yahweh, the son that Yahweh sacrificed to take upon him the transgressions of the entire human race. Judah was the fourth son of Jacob. Go and read Genesis Chapter 49 to see how Jacob blessed his 12 sons before he died. Yehoshua is from the tribe of Judah. In the first 400 years directly after the resurrection there was a systematic carefully orchestrated movement to replace Yehoshua’s name, first with Joshua (Moses’ successor), which was then simplified to Jesus. So who is it that is leaking out the info? It may actually even be Pope Benedict XVI, the first Pope in 500 years to resign while still in office. Read some of the reforms he tried to reintroduce. External pressure may have been taking an adverse effect on his health forcing him to resign.

If you think I am joking about the stock market, then consider this: Recently we first had Face Book and then Twitter listing on the stock market. For those of you who play the stock market, you be the first to post the following here – 1. The current market capitalization value of both, 2. The projected revenue stream of both, and 3. The actual revenue stream of both. Then sit back and look at the numbers in your post. With no revenue, how on earth do you ever expect to receive any dividends on your investment. From this, it has to be glaringly obvious to even the worst investor who ever walked planet earth that much of what goes on in the stock market is nothing more than a giant ponzi scheme. All you have done by investing in either of these two stocks, is to buy into the feeding frenzy currently underway in the market. But it’s soon to be brought down by Elohim. I have no idea WHAT the catalyst is going to be to spark the collapse. What I do know is that the carnage is going to be massive. Across the globe millions of people are going to be left destitute. The children of Elohim, those who believe and trust in him, make sure that you are out of the stock market by 9/11 next year.

Zel got this one about right. To get to the kilogram of feathers, you are going to have a huge pile of feathers. This one is a shadow, any shadow. This one is more difficult. Personally I believe that it is both 1 and 2 i.e. the Pope is a puppet on a string, dancing to the tune of whoever it is hiding in the background and yanking the strings. So who exactly is it then hiding in the background? It is the same people doggedly defending the Theory of Evolution. It is the same people driving the Big Bang Theory which is so desperately needed for a plausible alternative as to the origins of the universe. Why? Without substance to the BBT, they have no universe. With no universe they have no earth. With no earth they have no Theory of Evolution. Both have collapsed. So these guys are currently wasting billions on projects such as the LHC, hiding it underground away from probing eyes where they can prepare fake reports on fake progress towards giving substance to the BBT. Much of the money to finance all these silly projects is coming from the rise and fall in the stock market. Currently we are seeing a bull-run unmatched in history with markets closing on new record highs virtually every day in complete defiance of all logic i.e. declining world wide economies, rising unemployment, projected corporate profits lagging behind the share price, etc. So how do you explain this? The USA is in a debt trap with national debt exceeding USD 17 trillion. In an attempt to stimulate their economy they are printing cheep money which in many instances can be borrowed for as little as 0.25%. Much of this cheep money is finding its way into the stock market where investors are looking for better returns. And so the stock prices are continuously driven higher. Guess what? Its all going to come to an end on 9/11 next year (11 September 2014), the same day that the two planes crashed into the twin towers in New York. Whoever is still in the stock market on 9/11 is going to lose one heck of a lot of money. When the stock market comes down it is going to fall further than what it did in 2008. With the source of the funding gone, there will be no more money to pay salaries etc to the people who are working on all these silly projects. The physicists will be the first to jump ship. In their desperation to get money of any sort now to pay their bills, they are going to start selling their stories to whoever still has money. When that starts happening, the major newspapers across the world will be printing their stories and all are going to find out who it is hiding in the background and driving all these silly projects. But more importantly, the world is going to find out WHY they are driving them in the first place. After all, no sane person will waste the sort of money already spent on e.g. the LHC, without a reason for doing so. In the not too distant future we are going to find out what that reason is. Barry / Ben: When I joined these forums on 22 December 2010, within a matter of months I could spot this clique that is doing its best to get me to leave the forums for good. All this time I have been wracking my brain as to the “glue” that keeps them together. After all they seem to be from so many different places around the world. On 19 December 2012 Phil started the first thread of this nature, BBF Religious Matrix 1, in which I was a frequent poster. The same ganging up took place there until the thread was locked. It was not me who started the thread, but I took note of the number of views that that thread had received at the point it was locked. It stood at just under 9000 views. At the time of me making this post, the current number of views stood at 21544. That thread has (so far) received more than double the number of views AFTER IT WAS LOCKED, than what it received while it was open. It just has to be obvious that things were said there which many keep returning to. The thread, The Problem with Religious Moderation, was started by Winstomn on 7 October 2013. That thread was locked when the number of views stood at 3620. At the time of me making this post, the number of views (so far) stood at 3922. So it generated interest and people are still reading it. That thread (The Problem with Religious Moderation) has finally revealed to me the “glue” which keeps this clique together. So they keep returning here to have me permanently kicked out of these forums. The thread, BBF Religious Matrix 2, was started by myself.

I am interested to know what the USA allows regarding the tax deductibility of any expenditure on scientific research. You rightly say, that from a corporate point of view, any expense is deductible, which brings you to net income before the actual tax calculation and the following tax due. In my own country there are all sorts of things which are treated differently for corporate purposes and for tax purposes, which lead to the need to do a tax reconciliation. The simplest or most common of these is the method of depreciation (and timespan over) which different asset classes are written off for corporate purposes versus the wear and tear (and timespan over) which is allowed by our tax authorities. Certain things are not allowed as deductions in any way for tax purposes, which is the reason for my question, “Are scientific research expenses deductible for tax purposes?” I am not interested in what corporate policy is regarding these expenses. So can you kindly be a bit more specific here, "On what basis or what criteria would lead to certain scientific research expenses to be excluded when doing the tax calculation in the USA?”

There is something hiding underneath this fake reason and I want to find out what it is. So I am appealing to you to do just as Ben suggested: 1. Unlock the thread in the Water Cooler. 2. Merge the two threads. 3. Move this post and others related to the thread into the Water Cooler. 4. Allow the discussion to continue so that I can find out what is hiding underneath this fake reason. Freedom of speech is part of the USA constitution. Let's call on that freedom and continue the discussion.

Christmas is just over two months away. When your Pope delivers his Christmas message, there are plenty of the worlds major television stations broadcasting his message. It is a perfect stage to set the ball rolling at a much faster pace. Print out the other thread and the last part of this one and get it to your Pope sooner than later. Get him to include in his Christmas message, The physicists have brought down the theory of evolution, while waving all those printouts in the air. The thunderous roar from everyone gathered before him listening, is going to echo across every nation who has a television camera there. The lost sheep from among your own members, who were led astray by the evolution theory, are going to be trampling upon one another to get back into your cathedrals and churches. There simply will not be enough room for them all as the cram your pews to find out what happened. The sooner we can start the fight between the evolutionists and the physicists, the sooner more and more of their numbers are going to cross over to our side.
