  1. About Gibs explanations see http://doc.bridgebase.com/lobbynews/gib_descriptions.xhtml - twice rebiddable is indeed 6 card suit. He chose to show his weakest suit, and if he doesnt have a strong suit there are 2NT and 3NT in the box.... http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  2. http://tinyurl.com/9vlrzey How often would gib underlead an A against 6? http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  3. http://tinyurl.com/9rnbzan Gib does not play system on after balancing 1NT? 3♣ is twice rebiddable suit (which happens to be Qxx...)? Gib doesnt play retransfers? http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  4. I would open 4NT, but given the auction I think you should bid as many clubs as you decide to compete to. Personally, I prefer 6♣ now. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  5. May be I would double with W hand in BAM on the first round, but really I would deem it as the worst t/o double ever. Other than that - I dont see any blame. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  6. Pass, not close http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  7. 1♠, not close. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  8. Not very similar to me :) Second hand seems simple - Q either it works the first round or diamonds are 4-4 or there is nothing I can do about it. Its the standard contract, hope the lead is also an obvious one, and everyone will have the same score. First hand - uhhh - I always get these wrong - diamonds are likely 4-3, but if I get it wrong they cash 5 tricks, and the lead might be less than obvious. Relevant LHO distributions (assuming 4th best): 1. AKJ7 2. AKT7 3. AJT7 4. KJT7 Without anything useful from their convention card, or from RHOs answer to the question "what would your lead of J mean?" (if J denies higher honor I play the 8) I would still put up the Q.... http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  9. No. 2♣ should show either any 22+ or one suited hand with 9 playing tricks and 17+ point - this hand doesn't fit either. The reason to have strong openings is so that the bidding would not go 1x-P-P-P, on a hand that is comitted to play game opposite partner that may not have enough to answer 1 level opening. When you hold 12 HCP and void in spades the bidding will never go 1H-P-P-P...In dealer seat I would open 1♥, in 3rd or 4th I would open 4♥, but in any case I think 4♥ would be a standard contract in the room. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  10. 7♥, I like playing 5NT showing Q no kings - that allows to bid 6!c asking for Q!c...however I wouldnt be able to ask for either one of black queens. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu

  13. At matchpoints I would try 1NT, or double, 2♦ didnt even cross my mind here. Jxx is not perfect, but I think 1NT is likely to be the playable spot and partner will not be happy to bid it with Qx, he will be more inclined to bid any 4 card minor. If partner rebids hearts or a ♣ I would be happy to play 2♥. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  14. I thought most people dont play preempts at 4th seat, but rather something more constructive jump openings. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  15. If I feel that I must guess the final 4S or 6S immediately I probably do....but frankly I dont see how opponents can shut me out of the bidding, if I am willing to put 6♠ on the table anyway. So I start with double to let them bid and get more info about likely distributions. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  16. I am a simple minded person - this sounds like pretty natural auction to me. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  17. I like 4♦, and I think that completely shutting out opponents here is not necessarily a good thing in the first seat. 4♦ is going to put them under just enough pressure to bid... http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu

  19. 1♠, the worst I can hear from p is gf 2♥.... http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  20. Thank you :) http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  21. We all know that the "9 never" rule is secondary to having any reasonable hint in favor of the finesse. This is because with 9 cards a priori it is 52-48% for the drop which is pretty close. Thus, if one of the opponents is known to hold more points, or have shortness in other suit, finessing considered at least as good as the drop. However in "8 ever" the amount of information needed to tip the % in favor of the drop is obviously more, because the % difference is 50 vs 34 - yet it is obvious, for example, that if only one of the opponents holds all of the outstanding high cards finessing into him will not succeed, and you can only hope for the drop. My question is if you dont have any particular information about distribution, but do have information about high card split (for example one opponent opened, and you are playing a 26 HCP game), what would be the minimum difference between the opponents to make playing for the drop a % line in 8 card fit? Assuming it has something to do with the form of these points - how many high cards can be potentially assigned to the weak hand that would make it worth finessing into the strong hand? http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  22. Red versus white preempts are solid - so imo 3♠ should be just about this hand. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  23. Thank you all, this is extremely educational. At the table I was not sure, and bid 3NT (I had Axx in ♠), so we missed an ice cold 6♦. When I said sorry I probably should have bid 3♦, my p said he would have passed it......:) About better methods - I would really like to learn more about transfer responses - could you please drop a link to a good reference on the subject? Also I was thinking a bit more about this auction - would it make sense to play X by responder as puppet to 2NT? http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
  24. Just a quick question - playing with good partner, no particular agreements except 2/1. 1♥-X-XX-2♠ P-P-3♦ -P is 3♦ forcing? (1♥-X-2♦ would be non forcing according to both of us). http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gifYu
