In my opinion this is one of the worst failings of the BBO UI. Yes, users should read the site rules and be expected to understand how self alerting works, but the fact that this complaint comes up OVER and OVER suggests that BBO should just be preemptive about telling their stupid idiot users that self alerting is NOT cheating and is only for their benefit.

System discussion before/between boards.

Good question, especially as more clubs move their club games online and charge $5 or so for it. -
I've always called this a wizard splinter. Got it from other people in my area.

Thank god sitting at a table is still the same color

I noticed that the color schemes have changed. Would you consider implementing a dark mode? The bright background hurts my eyes and makes me not want to use the site...

Simple(?) hand evaluation
kuhchung replied to antonylee's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
simple xfer and pass unless pard supers, yup. and doubleton supers seems pretty stupid to me too. -
I play takeout

My friend calls this a winner squeeze - you can't unguard anything so you ditch your winners. I think Kevin and Debbie Rosenberg call this a dad squeeze. It may not be the exact same theme, but it had to do with something like this. Also, I have accidentally made hands like this as well. I thought the defense just discarded very poorly, but no, they're just in a lot of trouble. Running winners is strong!

same as nige1 and OP. i'm getting a terrible score here too

is this alertable under acbl rules?

I also came to quote David Burn but instead I'll quote Paul quoting DB! -
I would just bid 3N (or 2N depending how light you open.) Having spades 4 times stopped and 4 bad diamonds, making a cue raise would not occur to me... Over 3N I think S should probably bid 4D. I still don't know that I'll land in 6D.

honestly i hate it when people use the term "justice" in all types of probability games. someone gives you a bad beat, you shrug and move on. you took the percentage shot. guess what, 10% of the time, you will lose a 90-10 flip! that's how it works.

i admit i only see one line...
-
late to the thread, but if you wouldn't overcall for example a 1S opening with this, I wouldn't do it over 2C either. perhaps that is a dumb view, but I have been punished just like this too
-
As an aside, I definitely took this line from the viewpoint of a tester. I would never take such an inferior line in reality. Haha. Ha. ha.

East defends suboptimally on this hand, allowing me to make on an incorrect line. After DK lead, south can draw two rounds of trumps, then play ace and a club. East wins and plays a third round of clubs, which subjects W to a simple squeeze. East needs to play a diamond to destroy the threat.

Better to post N hand only to delay the vitriol, maybe :) Hi gwnn!!!
-
Are you trying to find 7H by E because they can't get a ruff on opening lead? What if I reverse the NS hands? Would you be trying to reach 7H by W? Or are you asking how to find 7H in general?

bridge and poker

I mean if you aren't paying attention to players' betting patterns and what they're showing down, why would playing bridge help with this? -
I always agree with you, whatever that's worth! (Nothing)

another bidding question - responder updated for pard hand
kuhchung replied to phoenixmj's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
I would transfer into 2S and then bid 4D splinter. Respect partner's signoff if he does sign off. If he bids 4H in between, I will try 5C. The other route to me is stayman, then delayed transfer into 4S. This seems strictly worse, since even if we have a heart fit, I'm not sure I want to play it, and once I oblige partner to accept the transfer into 4S, I'll have no idea what to do. -
Fred responded to my post. I can retire from bridge now!!!!!!!!!!!

I was playing with my wife and two robots the other day, and the 5th to last trick went 6 6 6 6. I have never seen four of a kind (I took a screenshot!) where players weren't specifically looking to do that. Anyone else seen this? Any idea how frequent it is?
-
Are these the basic bots or advanced? I've seen similar things from basic bots, but never something like this from an advanced one.

3NT because they pay a game bonus and I have a comfortable game force and I have spades stopped and I don't see a better option
