You have 10 top tricks (3S, 2D, 2C and 3H). It is difficult to say what the best percentage play is, the double club hook looks reasonable as it can gain two tricks anytime East has (Hxx, Hxxx, Hx, Hxxx, HHx, HHxx, HHxxx, HH, or HHxxxx) all in all that is about 73.6% of the time and it gains one trick and sets up a host of squeeze possibilities when EAST holds Hxxxxx (only 1.3% chance) . Against that, the double hook is down whenever WEST holds C-QJ, C-QJx, or C-QJxx (with QJxxx or QJxxxx you will discover EAST's singleton or void in clubs before playing the first or second hook). Those are very good odds indeed. With potential threats in all four suits, there is a second potential line that has some merit. Win the spade King, cross to the heart ACE, play spade to the Queen, cash one high heart (discard a club) and duck a heart (assuming both followed to the second round, if not, hook the club instead). If were 3-4, you have 11 tricks now with the long heart, and spade/club/diamond threats. If hearts were 5-2 you have to rely on a diamond hook for your 11th trick and play for a compound squeeze against whoever holds the long heart with spade, heart, diamond and clubs all threats. This line gains one trick anytime hearts are 4-3 (62.2%) and you get the extra trick via diamond hook half the time when the suit splits 5-2 or worse (half of 37.8 or 18.9%). This comes out to be 81.1% of the time you will have 11 tricks on this line (compared with the 73.6% of time you instantly gain two tricks with the double club hook. So is 81.1% chance for 11 tricks better than 73.6 for 12 (with additonal trick in 1.2% of the time?). I think so, simply because spades can be 3-3 or the squeeze ending should be easier to find. Also, the odds for the heart duck is probably slightly low estimated, as the 7-0 and 6-1 splits have been eliminated from possibilities before you duck the heart trick. If my math is right, after both opponents have followed twice to heart leads, the odds of a 4-3 split is then about 83% instead of 62%, changing the combined odds of the 4-3 split or the Diamond Q onside to gain one trick to 91.5%. Finally, the heart duck line has one feature I like. You are not automatically down when it is wrong. Spades can alwyas be 3-3 with diamond hook on as an alternative. Whereas when both club honors are off side, the double hook is down right away. Against this, some of the endings for the squeeze may be hard to read (although who guards spades will be obvious). There is thus lots to say for the immediate double club hook. Ben Yes, I played in your ways Ben... and find a squeeze to get 12 tricks After the lead I immediately noticed that I only got 10 tops tricks, and is very likely to get an extra one from heart or diamond, and then I will get threat cards in S, D, C or S, H, C. Another obvious line of play is of course putting your fate in the club suit only, trying to get 2 extra club winners with the highest percentage. One way is to do club hook twice. The other way is .. cash A K of diamond and play the third ... Hoping for a 3-3 or doubleton Hx. fail only when 4-2 either side hold QJxx, and for 5-1 you will stop giving the third club. Now you return back to diamond hook and Hope for a sqeeze. Of course, when that is 4-2 and QJxx you down 2 straight forward. My math is not good. Can anyone calculate the probability? ;D

In a team match, both side go to 6NT with opponents being silent. North AQ72 KQ732 A4 82 South K96 A KJ63 AKT95 Both table West led Spade J. I made the contract but not using the best line of play. Proposed Tourneys for B/I Members
bhugi replied to keylime's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
For beginners, Is it better to be an unclock event ? or at least with double time limit for them. Allow more times for them to chat after boards, or some experts may go there and teach after boards. Imp or mp is better than total points. Board keep to minimal because of time, and also fewer boards is better, they can spend more time in a few boards after hand discussion. Help the crazy fruit loop out here folks! lol -
Booting a player who not a good fit for the table
bhugi replied to inquiry's topic in General BBO Discussion
table host cannot boot a player for bad bids or plays, but allow host to do so for those rude. If a player is rude, not preserving faces to others, he can't request others to preserve his face too. Host can kindly ask him to leave. Explain to him and most will leave themselves. If he don't know what is "shame" but insist to stay, I think boot him will do not harm anything more, because he don't know that word. B) -
um... mark them enemies, and told your friends. Finally, they will find themselve unable to play in any tourney in bbo if they persist in that way. (every TD know they are bad and not allow them to join) Let community desides the rules of community themselves. ;D If all TD allow rude people to play, then it is part of the community :-

I want to answer but I am one of the player of that match, so I will keep silent B)

online bridge and alerting
bhugi replied to bglover's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
So, nothing wrong by not explaining an alert bid when opponents didn't ask. It is the correct procedure. You are not allowed to do so in physical events. However, you are nicer to do so in online bridge (esp. when opp are not so expertised. B) ) -
online bridge and alerting
bhugi replied to bglover's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
For internet bridge, I will alert and in the same time type in simiple explanations. If opp found it to be unclear, and they just don't want to brother to have a look on my cc or system notes, I will just try my best to explain clearly to them again. I admit that typing is an exhausted job, especially for those system with lots of artificial and conventions. There is always discussion on issues related to friendly and expertise playing environment. In our zone, we need to alert but never self-explain unless the opponent ask for it. CC and system notes is ready for them. In internet, good interface generates laziness. People just try to wait for explanation in the small bidding box area but don't want to look at the CC or system notes even if you said it loud at the beginning that you have a detailed web links system notes. Reasons behind can be: they are lazy, or they are using dial up in the other side of the world. It is already not easy for them to play in bbo and it will be a great barrier for them if they are asked to open up another browser. My opinion is: try to ease others and thus ease yourself. I play bridge for fun / for my own enjoyment. If a little typing effort from me can make the game running more smoothly and happily, and prevent a ruin on my favourite bridge game, that deserves it. I think it is better for internet bridge to follow physical one in this situation: It is your right and for your own safe to ask for alert bids. Opponents are not supposed to do so unless you ask for it. -- this is expertise issue. However, try to type in the bidding box (or chat and explain to opp privately if it is lengthy) if the opponents ask about a bidding, or even they didn't ask about the meaning, especially for an artifical or convention bids. Good to have a web link on systesm, tell them to search after you make the bid and alert it. Type if they can't find the information. This ensures that I defeat the opponents by my skills and partnership, not because of opponents missing information on my bidding. -- this is friendly issue. Friendly is that you did extra more to ease others and yourself, but are not breaking the law if you haven't done it. -
maybe one day bbo can support win32, mac os, unix, freebsd, and finally pocket pc os ;D However, I think we don't have pocket pc os version now.

heeee I am using a Logitech mouse too ~~~ mismouse frequency dramatically drops! ;D

4-2-4-3 xxx club .. What are you forcing for ? Game? Slam? For game just bid 3C, looking for 3 card of spade support or club stopper or more diamond to play in 4S, 3NT, 5D respectively. Since my 4th suit is GF. For diamond slam, just bid 3C and bid again 4D to show GF slam interest.
-
hi my opinion: 4d = accept slam try, pls p go on with cuebid 4s = very good your club's cue but 2 loosers in hearts by me 4nt = not forcing RKC/BLW, can be passed with minimum hand after: .......4c 4d - 4h/s 4nt = RKC/BLW forcing or: .......4c 4d/h/s - 4nt = RKC/BLW forcing bye pino ricci 4NT is sure RKCB with unfamiliar partner. 3NT is to play and your 4C cue bid suggest slam interest, and he co-operate to bid 4NT to ask for A and trump Q (his distribution doesn't required cue bid) or if he lack some controls he will cue bid over 4C. Your 4C bid run over the safe 3NT game level, you are ready to play in 5D if no slam. law of first arrival 5D to play no slam interest 4D is invite on trump quality / let partner elaborate more 4H is cue bid heart 4S is cue bid spade every side are ready to sign off 5D if control as missing
-
3C, forcing bid. Partner bid 3S or 3NT or 3D or else to elaborate more
-
I play in a similar way DBL = snapdragon D's plus H tolerance (Hx) 2C is sound three-card raise or better; 2H - preemptive 3-card raise; 2S - GF in D plus H tolerance 2NT - high card, offensive raise to the three level with four (plus) trumps; 3D - preempitve; 3H - preemptive; 4H - preemptive; 3S/4C = splinter 4D = preemptive;
-
I do exactly as your way, but 3H's meaning is cue bid also.
-
RDbl: 10+HCP and normally no fit, 1H or 1S F 1 round.
-
32 hcps adding both hands, and a singleton in Diamond. Good try for a grand slam. If diamond Q change to spade J or heart K you are home. A splinter auction in Diamond can get you there to 7. Just like holding 27 hcp with a splinter bid, very likely you are going to play in 6 other than 4 level if you think the two hands are match (In a way the hcp didn't distributed in the splintered suit)
-
similar 1M-3C = 7-9 HCP 1M-3D = 10-bad 12 HCP 1M-3M = 0-6 HCP I play revBergen with some partners, where 3C & 3D repond meanings are interchange.

An interesting defense against a strong 1c
bhugi replied to luis's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Yes, it is a waste when you think you can always pass and rebid later. However, sometimes it tells your partner that you have strength and he/she is more willing to bid with vul and not much strength. :) Our style is always try to interfere the strong 1c to make the opp. bid in natural way lol -
hehehe, I jus say "Or". Of course I don't think Grand is very possible. (opp. can't be silence if partner void in spade) I trust my partner will know with 11 hcp he cannot respond with 2H, but there is always possible that "a cow fly through ~" or mismouse or just take out the wrong card from the bidding box. No loss to bid exclusive RKCB and when partner respond 3 keycard it may save a board. lol

bid and play-BG national cvalifications
bhugi replied to mishovnbg's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
I support to duck a heart in trick 2. Say you run smoothly up to now. Now you can't get back to your hand. If you play a heart, either side won and cash the last spade to set your contract. -
BTW, How can West Lead S3 and also discard S3 on the last D ? :)
-
right, so I use 1403 for majors and 0314 for minors ~ ;D 0314 let you have the chance to pass 5C when partner has 0 key cards
