one doubleton is in partner's suit ♥ other doubleton isn't in preempter's suit and partner probably has values in it ♣. I would call this worthless.
-
9 hcp + 2 pts for the doubletons including the very useful heart doubleton.
-
Gib counts points for voids. Even in NT, even in partners suit. It has no clue.
-
I don't disagree with bidding 1♣ on this hand. But 1 hand does not make it right. Partner and opps have perfect hands for you to play 1N. Change a few cards 2♠ makes and 1N doesn't even have a play. You are right game is out of the question.
-
Maybe this isn't the best hand to open 2♣ but I know good players who would open 2♣. Gib bidding 4N is just ridiculous. In my opinion the weaker hand almost never should be taking over and bidding 4N after a 2♣ opening. But here Gib is very weak and has no business taking over and bidding 4N. Gib has no concept of captaincy in bidding.

What are you talking about. 1♥ was opened. This is not a real risky auction.
-
"I like the idea of earning masterpoints as at least it shows some of my actual bridge achievements" I see nothing wrong with accumulating mp on bbo if that's your thing. but make no mistake just because you have a high number beside your name doesn't means your any better than before. while people with more mp may be better it could just also mean they play a lot or other reasons.
-
Would be hard to prove motive but does it matter if opps responsible for slow play isn't a penalty possible. It does seem slow play isn't uniformly enforced.
-
On the contrary in ACBL the people playing weak 1N have experience playing over a penalty double. However, the opponents usually don't have much experience making penalty doubles and dealing with escapes. I understand this is different elsewhere especially UK and some Commonwealth countries.
-
You could assign a meaning to X 4♥ but it has to be a hand that can stand p converting to penalty. You could define X such that p can't pass but then please tell me in advance so I know I can get into your auction with 0 risk.
-
You have 4♣ for one 4♥ for the other.
-
I don't know if I would go that far. Certainly if the minor suit fit isn't found immediately at MP you often have to risk an easy 3N if you look for slam which is bad. All the questions asked are good questions. I don't think there is a consensus on any of them. Playing weak or 10-12 NT will also complicate the 3rd answer.
-
Even not playing Walsh you could get stuck with 3=3=2=5. In standard there is no forcing raise for clubs so what are you supposed to do with 20+ hcp?

How could I vote for such a vulgar disgusting man?

give me a break, being old doesn't give you carte blanche -
I've seen a lot of lead directing doubles of Bergen to set contract. Even lead of other suit when Bergen suit not doubled. So Bergen isn't free. Also, other uses for 3C/3D possible. Wanks suggestion "Personally I play 1M 3M as mixed and 1M 2nt as inv plus." is fine for intermediate/advanced. ok so not perfect for slams. Sure other methods are better but is the audience going to be able to use them?

Bidding here should be a great side suit. Biddable does have a definition for Gib, but biddable isn't good enough here. partner passed and opp has showed other suits. need reason to bid not just practically any 4 card suit. also the points is silly. Why would you take a bid here with 12 points? should show good hand for same reason.

GIB doesn't know in best hand tournaments...
steve2005 replied to billyjef's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Gib for sure does not know human has the best hand 100%. Other question far too complicated. -
Technically this is not an NABC event it is a regional event even though it looks like an NABC event. I personally think it should be stratified to attract as many people as possible. If stratified I wouldn't be surprised if similar event got 10,000 entries. This was billed as a championship so reasonable to not stratify. I don't see why they cant stratify in future and have an C, B, A and Open champion.

Apparently does not make this inference. If Gib followed certain rules on playing of cards, then Gib could place declarer with J♠/ Without Gib runs a simulation and is assuming declarer does not have this card. In the documentation it says Gib plays random cards with equivalent doubletons. It also appears Gib plays random cards on other occasions.
-
They are called Full disclosure cards. Yes, you can customize to your own system, it can be complicated but then would require a lot of work. There is a website where people have posted their system, sometimes publically. It requires the bidedit program which came with the older bbo version which is no longer available for download You can probably find someone who can supply the program if can't get directly from bbo. In order to use the card you would have to upload the file to your convention card area, currently this is not possible in the newer bbo version.

playing bridge by gut feeling/instinct.

There is a theory that you can become an expert at anything with 10,000 hours of experience. I think books, lessons and listening to people you can trust will bring quicker results. -
GIB's interpretation of a double as takeout is not sensible
steve2005 replied to zzxjoanw's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Yes make no sense tohave 2♦X as penalty then 2♥X as takeout. Pass should be forcing here is cant pen. -
A bar bid is a sign-off bid and is pretty final. Nothing is completely final but usually hands have been limited so... Yes Gib uses bar bids it will say bar bid in description. There have been complaints that Gib bids 3♣ as a bar bid showing 6+♣ with only 5. I have also seen Gib bids which to me should be bar bids as has other bids which show same suit and are forcing. Then Gib shows up with huge extra values.

7NX player with Ace on lead, would never lead ace. BBO fixed this by coding if 7N on lead have an ace lead it. BBO did not fix whatever flaw in Gib's algorithm prevented Gib from leading the Ace. This is similar situation something is prevent Gib from playing 4 higher cards that are clearly superior. Maybe this is just in basic bots, but it still should be fixed.
