http://tinyurl.com/868w3g7 This isn't a bug, but I'd prefer it if bot opened this 1D (or played 3NT as showing this hand). Perhaps this is more of an issue in best hand tourney, but if bot has a solid 8 card minor, I almost always want to play in 3NT.
-
http://tinyurl.com/7fcdb2k Seems like the bot shouldn't pass reverses if it had its bid the first time.
-
http://tinyurl.com/3egmtoj 5NT is explained as having 15-17, but the robot has 12. I suppose if robot has 17 and I open 2C, maybe it should just go to grand, but still.

Bidding book for beginners

I think Hardy's green book is very readable and covers most common sequences. -
GIB is not better than the average BBO player
fuburules3 replied to Yu18772's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
I'm sure they have had the GIB play the hands from robo tourneys and then matchpointed the results. I think I heard somewhere that the GIB averages about 55% in such simulations--perhaps someone who knows can provide a little actual data. -
Doubling then bidding; how should this auction go?
fuburules3 posted a topic in GIB Robot Discussion
How should the auction go with GIB? That is, how do we find the goodish 3NT? Obviously GIB thought it could pass 3H (not sure if this is a bug). http://tinyurl.com/3g97j4t -

According to the BBO front page, Fantunes play that a double of 4♠ shows hearts and clubs. Given this, what should North's plan be? Double and pass partner's bid?
-
I don't understand your post--the GIB passed a bid that in its system is a cue. This seems like a bug regardless of whether 4D is the best bid or not, which is why I posted it here.
-
http://tinyurl.com/3kzwc9r I'm not sure if the explanation is just bad or if GIB just decided 4diamonds would be a good place to play if I could cue it.
-
Thanks everyone for the responses. I bid 3♥ holding this hand and then passed partner's 3NT. I was just curious what people thought since I felt a little wimpy bidding like this. Maybe I'm playing with the GIB's too much, but my thinking was even if I can get an auction where I can find out about what partner has in clubs something disastrous could happen over my 5/6♦ bid. It turns out partner has K10x(x) of clubs and opener had AJ of clubs, so slam is a lucky make, but we gained a few imps against 5♦

[hv=pc=n&s=sakhdakqj5432cq32&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1h]133|200[/hv] Playing in a swiss team at a club you pick up the following monster. What is your plan for bidding this hand? What about if E passes? Finally, what about if it is matchpoints instead of IMPS?
-
I find that very frequently the robot will override your decision to play a (good) slam even when it's fully described its hand. Often times this has happened when I have a really good solid suit and have somehow not convinced robot of this. The latest is the following hand: [hv=pc=n&s=s753hakdacakqj953&n=saqj9hj873dq932c6&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=p2cp2dp3cp3sp4np5dp5hp5np6np7sp7n]266|200[/hv] I know I promised spade support, but I think once I bid 6NT robot should accept this (incidentally, this board was a top, so maybe i shouldn't complain . . .). Thoughts?

the old question of 1x or 2C opening?
fuburules3 replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
What is the maximum hand people open 3D in 4th seat with? I would think this hand is too strong, but how much weaker would it have to be? -
The hand partner actually held was xx xx Axx AKQxxx Partner had forgotten our agreement (a hand like this came up and we briefly discussed and agreed to play this way, so not too surprising). With good breaks 3NT was down only 1 or 2. Sadly we played 4!♠ down 4 (should be -2, but some sub-optimal play . . .). At the table my thinking was partner has either forgotten our agreement or gone crazy, but maybe has three hearts and 4!♥ has play, but I think I agree with the sentiment that it's better to pass before opps wake up and penalize us.

[hv=pc=n&n=sqjt64hkt974d98c7&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=pp1cp1sp2cp2hp3np]133|200[/hv] Playing 2/1 with gambling 3NT and opening one of a minor and rebidding 3NT over a 1 over 1 shows a near solidish suit and stoppers, and 2♥ is NF (2!d is artificial and forcing). What do you make of the 3NT bid? Do you pull this contract or let it sit? Does your answer change if you think there is some chance partner has forgotten your agreement that 2♥ is NF? Perhaps, more importantly, what is the best "partnership" bid? If you face what seems like an impossible bid is it better to trust partner knows what he is doing (and in this case pass) or try to save the auction if you suspect partner has messed up agreements (or, hopefully not, doesn't know what he is doing)?

[hv=pc=n&w=sqthq83dj85cakq65]133|100[/hv] Everyone red at IMPS. S deals and opens either 1D/1H/1S (opps playing 2/1). Do you bid with this hand? Does your answer change at different vulnerabilities or if it is matchpoints?
-
[hv=pc=n&s=skjt932hqdat65c74&n=sq5hakjt432dcaqj8]133|200[/hv] Opponents pass throughout. You can bid it using whatever gadgets etc. you like, but when this hand came up a fairly simple 2/1 card was being played.
-
You hold: ♠Ax ♥ J9xxxx ♦ void ♣ A9xxx It's the first board of a one session pairs event, no one vulnerable. Your opponents are one of the stronger pairs in the field. You play 2/1 with 2 diamonds, hearts, and spade being weak 2's. The auction goes P-P-?

Another botched slam hand
fuburules3 replied to fuburules3's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Do you play that option 3 denies a club/diamond control or can a hand that is not slam interested (but may have a cue) bid 4 hearts? -
We are playing 2/1, but have some trouble with precise meanings of all the bids In the auction 1♠-P-2♦-P 2♥-P- ?, what do the bids of 3♥ versus 4♥ show? Suppose the auction is 1♠-P-2♦-P 2♥-P-3♥- P 3♠ what does 3♠ show? Is it showing extra distribution or a cue? After 3♠, what are responder's options?

Bidding Over A Preempt
fuburules3 replied to fuburules3's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
What would people bid if sequence continued 5D-P-P-? If you X, what kind of hands should partner be taking out with? Actual auction it went X-P-5S-P-5NT-P-6H-P-P-P down 2
