  2. In the actual hand, if you play any spade on trick 2, both opponents duck. Go on from here.
  3. You can safely assume that hearts are 100% to be 3-6.
  4. [hv=pc=n&s=s9543hj73da92ckj3&n=skjt2hadq75caq876&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=2hp3hdp4sppp]266|200[/hv] Patton. West leads ♥4. Plan the play (and consider plausible alternative lines, if any).
  5. I'd love to play against that system... with screens. South: (fast) 1♣ Me: (10 seconds) pass North: 1♥ East: pass South: (fast) 1NT Me: (10 seconds) pass North: 6NT! East: pass South: pass Me: (10 seconds): Double! (all pass) (10 seconds) ♦A (10 more seconds) ♠A (another 10 seconds) ♦K South: Director! He gave my partner unauthorized misinformation!
  6. 1♣ - 1♠ 2♣ - 2NT1 3♠2 - 4♦3 4♥3 - 4NT4 5♣5 - 5♦6 5♠7 - 7♣/7NT 1 GF with club support 2 spade shortness 3 cue 4 RKCB 5 1 6 ♣Q? 7 Yes and ♠K
  7. My teammates at the 2009 Transnational played 2♣ just made, against 6♠ bid and made at our table. The tray was larger than they were used to...
  8. There is. It's a book, published by the French Bridge Federation; full title is "Le Système d'Enseignement Français".
  9. Roudi is just the former (sort of checkback stayman). The latter is what they call "third suit forcing".
  10. Poll added. Indeed, he didn't promise diamonds. Preemptive.
  11. [hv=pc=n&e=s6hq4daj64caqt642&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=pp1c1sd3s]133|200[/hv] IMPs. No relevant agreements. Do you move?
  12. [hv=pc=n&w=s85hkt6dk7caqj963&n=sqt96haq9da852c75&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=1dp2d3cpp3nppp]266|200[/hv] IMPs. Carding agreements are simply "UDCA", no further discussion. ♣Q, 5, 2, 8 Now what and why?
  13. What we play around here is 2♣ - 2♦ - 3NT/4♣/4♦/4♥ shows 4441 shape, bidding below the singleton (i.e. 3NT=singleton ♣ and so on). Responder bidding opener's singleton then asks for controls (1st step shows 6), anything else is to play.
  14. Typical freak from a Best Hand, about half an hour ago... http://tinyurl.com/774wbk7
  15. [hv=pc=n&s=s9632h7daq2caj643&w=skj85hkq6djt74c75&n=sa4hjt5dk865cqt98&e=sqt7ha98432d93ck2&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=2hd3hd(responsive, denies 4 spades)p4cp5cppp]399|300|[/hv] Here's the full hand and how it went at our table. The ♣K was duly onside, making +400 a deserved reward for the good guys.
  16. [hv=pc=n&s=s73h843dckjt98654&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=1c2s]133|200[/hv] Your call? IMPs again, just to make it clear. Balanced hands with 4-4 in the minors are opened 1♣ around here, in case it matters.
  17. [hv=pc=n&s=saqj6h52dak3caj63&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=pp1dd2dpp]133|200[/hv] Your call? (edit: re-adding poll, which seems to have vanished)
  18. Passers get a second chance: West raises to 3♥, Pass, Pass back to you.
  19. [hv=pc=n&s=s9632h7daq2caj643&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=2h]133|200[/hv] What call do you make, and how close is it? Passers, what's the minimum you'd add so as to Dbl? Doublers, what's the minimum you'd remove so as to Pass?
  20. This is the first of a (mini-)series of interesting decisions faced by the North-South pairs in one São Paulo Cup round some months ago. I will post them separately and then give the full hands after some days. [hv=pc=n&s=sa652hk4d73cakjt5&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=3d]133|200[/hv] Do you? Of course you do. But what? If you Dbl, it comes back 3♥ from partner. Now what?
  21. 3♣ as shape ask after the response to Stayman is standard around here ("second Stayman", as we call it). Hands with 5m+4OM bid 3♦ (3♥ by opener asks for the minor). The structure I'm used to play is: 1N - 2♣ 2♥ - 3♣ 3♦ = 4♥+4m (3♥ asks for the minor) 3♥ = 5-card ♥ 3♠ = 4♥+4♠ 3NT = 4♥333 Same after 1N - 2♣ - 2♠.
  22. Singleton honors are meant to take tricks... http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?myhand=M-18493268-1313632621
  23. Queen ask would be 5♥, not 5♠.
