Lol, I haven't read Love for some years and it took several attempts to read it from cover-to-cover. I agree that it's a classic, but not light reading. The fact that I got the L wrong reinforces my point; BLUE is not a very useful mnemonic, ;D. Other squeezes Love doesn't cover... Don't you just love the sound of gnashing teeth when you pull off a Stepping Stone, :). Also, I don't recall Love giving much coverage to squeeze defence?

I find it interesting that several people have mentioned Clyde E. Love... a fine book for bedtime reading, ZZZZZZZ, ;D. BLUE always seemed one of the less useful mnemonics. I remember the mnemonic but... Both, Lower, Upper, Entry? I am curious as to whether a correspondent from Ann Arbor can confirm the strange properties of C-space in that locale?

Another couple of points... 1. The clocks in the UK changed from GMT to BST; I changed the offset manually, :D. 2. I play Astro but it applies to other conventions... I alert & when questioned, reply something like "H & minor"; at least I type "H & minor" in the alert enquiry box. What appears is "H _ minor"! What do I have to type to get an ampersand?

The hours are ok; it's the minutes/seconds that count; enjoy every second ye mortals, lol.

I notice that the clock is wrong... 21:23 here; 9:42pm at BB?

As a blanket statement of skill level... No. IMO, there are 4 theatres of bridge: 1. Bidding... I am rusty & ancient. 2. Declarer play... A Dragon riding a bicycle, ;). 3. Defence... "Give me a partner who can defend."

Turn the question around! Why do I prefer MP? Because, my favourite contract is 3NT... ;).
-
Mehta's biography of Feynman... Any Liddell Hart book... None of which is bridge related, but... "Diversity is the mother of confusion."
-
Reese & Dormer... "Bridge". I actually read "The Play of the Cards" first but "Bridge" covers simple bidding too.
-
Another little one... lol. I just changed Netsounds/WAITING, the clock... could we have a delayed repeat instead of a continuous repeat? Otherwise I have to find a .wav of the appropriate length, :).

I tried the search engine, practice makes perfect, I looked for IM then messages, :). A comment about "Hey, Cave_Draco, you have 1 message." would it be feasible to change that to "Hey, Cave_Draco, you have 1 new message." when appropriate?

Interesting that the replies so far concentrated on bridge books, :). Books in general... about 64ft, of which about 3ft are bridge books. Only one book in the "must have" category... The Official Encyclopedia(sic) of Bridge.

I know of two trump signals... standard & Vinje. Vinje is banned, encrypted information? Any refs to trump signals? I'm told Prism is akin to Vinje but not banned?

A search engine for the Forum? I was looking for information regarding the Convention Card, it seems to be a legacy thing? I found the string, but not very helpful with regard to filling it out, :). Introduce a difference between alert & announce? I alert a 12-14NT but all NT ranges should be announced. Just general comments.

Mostly, no effect, B). 4 options: Never played with a Star; no effect, Partnered a Star; should be a good game. Opposed a Star; Oooh, a gauntlet. Kibbed by a Star; honoured.

A BBO Player Rating Methodology
Cave_Draco replied to Lestat's topic in Suggestions for the Software
There is one... lol. I log in, select Movie, select My MPs & More as many times as allowed and it gives me a %... Not sure what it is actually counting, I don't think it counts all scores, but it may do. Certainly the result is within acceptable parameters, ;D. -
If I misclick in bidding asking for an undo is OK; I am unlikely to give my P the ethical dilemma of 1S...undo...pass. ID...undo...1H is a reasonable misclick. If I misclick in play? I apologise to P later but accept a blunder; all cards played provide information: in a game of incomplete information, that can be crucial.
-
Having seen comments about undos, on other strings, it seems worth having a discussion about them, :). I am quite happy to undo a misbid but a misplay? I'm sure most of us have played with greasy cards & pulled the wrong card... It happens, but how many of us snatch it back? It isn't worth getting upset about, B). Online bridge is immune to the Alcatraz Coup but it is also free from penalty cards, etc. We all make mistakes, pulling the wrong card is one of them.

I can think of several reasons... but they all come down to player attitude, ;D. Partially, it's a snowball effect. At BB, I play MP almost exclusively (rubber bridge can be fun); but a vision of bridge hell is one table playing MP... You play brilliantly &... 50%; you mess up &... 50%! There is no immediate feedback. At IMPs, in a partial or a cold game, you can relax (OK, safety plays) but at MP you have to work all the time... that overtrick! MP requires finer judgement of what the "room" is doing, I describe MP as more "cut-throat". Finally, I don't play golf but... why are most golf matches stroke-play? You CAN carry that water hazard, at stroke-play it isn't worth the risk; at match-play, what's the worst that can happen?

I agree, Jim, but it's not dependant on the traveller (I minimise the traveller) and can be managed if the opening bidder is quick, ;). I like to kib one player and count the hand with "no" clues; even a short glimpse of all 4 hands is unfortunate, However, the ability to restrict what you can see is a GREAT move, especially from the teaching angle. "Better to glimpse the future than know it."
