  1. after 15-17 1NT open, i had a strong forcing to game hand with strong minor suit: xx K Qxx AQJxxxx what should i bid? in my system, 3C = invite 3NT with an honor in club, like xx xxx xx AQxxxx thanks~
  2. or bid 3N 5332 choice of games, that is a frequent one. It is probably worthwhile to define the other bids, some people play 2C then 4M as 5332 quant rather than 4N, but I prefer that as light slam try requiring a perfect hand (controls, doubleton, third trump, source of tricks being the thing you look for). In general with the slam try hands you might do better just bidding 2D at imps when you have KJx of partner's minor, but at MP information leakage is going to be really important. i would not use 3NT as 5332. but i totally agree that difinition of other bids helps a lot.
  3. yeah, thx all for replies. as far as i understand from your help, 1) this example is typical use of xyz, which uses 2D as artifical game forcing 2) xyz is not the same as 2-way minor forcing or 2-way checkback, the difference is the 2C bid in xyz is forcing opener to bid 2D and might pass, or start an invitational bid am i right? :)
  4. true, two-way checkback or two-way minor forcing or some other names for it... my question is, in this situation (1D - 1M - 1NT), should 2D still be used as game forcing ?
  5. wouldn't that then be the xyx convention :) i'm not sure about this :) but one definition i read was: 1x - 1y - 1z - ??
  6. suppose you have: ♠ Ax ♥ KQTxx ♦ KJx ♣ AJ9 your partner opens 1♦ so it goes: 1♦ - 1♥ - 1NT what's your rebid? can you use 2♦ as forcing game xyz convention?
  7. Unless he was 0553 ah nice spot on, but he would probably bid 3D, it won't hurt :)
  8. 2S can't be bad choice, your partner has at least 1 spade (otherwise he would have bid 2C or 2H)
  9. This is not a support double situation. A support double is made by opener, here responder made the X. With kind regards Marlowe my opinion: 1) it can't be a strong hand (11p+) with short heart & 4+ diamond (or probably have bid redouble) as penalty for all opps' bids from this 2D 2) it is not good to make penalty double if the hand is not strong enough (like 7-10p), opps still have other contracts to go 3) if it was a take-out with interest in black suits (4S & 5C for example), why did he passed first? what if the opener had a weak hand with something like 2=5=4=2? it would be very dangerous under this vul. 4) i'd rather understand it as some invitational balanced hand with heart support (support double, or if anyone could find a better name), for example 3=3=3=4/3=3=4=3, 10-12p, and he could not find a good bid after the double. is it possible? thx & regards
  10. System on over overcall sounds as if it applies when p opens 1nt and they overcall. Better put it in the relevant secotions. Under defensive bidding, put 1NT=15-18 (system on) thx for advice!
  11. thanks dicklont & helene_t, the next question is, if i agree system on for both situations, should i write on cc "system on over double and overcall" or something similar?
  12. could it be support double? i would not understand it as penalty because he passed first, if he had no support to heart and a good hand to penalize 2D under this vul. he probably would have bid redouble?
  13. what about 5D? i've got a little interest of slam, am i crazy?
  14. hello, i found it in conventional card but don't know what it really means. could anyone help me? thanks!
