  1. Too bad, would make such competitions more sporting.
  2. I'm guessing GIB doesn't know that the human will have the best (or equal to the best) hand? If it did, how would that change the game; for GIB and us?
  3. I was just reviewing some hands from a recent daylong I played in and realized while comparing hands that all the players don't always play the same hands? For my own curiosity, how do the boards get generated and what are the parameters? Thanks.
  4. 1. D) would have opened 1N = equivalent of 16 points in notrump. Kleinman=16, K&R= 16.05 2. B) Cue 5♣ That all said, I'd bid 2♠, like OP, and not made a 3♠ raise. What is blackers?
  5. Indeed, 3 ♠ would tell a partnership that has agreed on using LTC that I have 4 ♠ and exactly 5 LTC. If partner has 10, she will pass, if she has 9 or less, she will take the appropriate action.
  6. Interesting, I was about to say XYZ could be used as a solution to the OP dilemmas...could it be extended to the other 3rd ladder situation? Jef
  7. Is there a definite priority to right side suit contracts or notrump contract in such situations? Over 1 diamond response to 1 club opener, opener should bid some level of notrump with balanced hands is what it seems your post is saying. Thus, unless opener is unbalanced I am presuming, we ignore any potential major suit fit to prioritize rebidding notrump? True, those that bypass diamonds to bid their major (hopefully with less than game forcing values [or invitational values in some quarters]) will be at some disadvantage when opener has a fit with the major as it would often be better played from openers side when responder has less than game forcing values. So, I think the unasked question that becomes apparent from your position is, why do many people, writers, pros, experts and us lesser mortals believe we should bypass diamonds in certain situations rather than always bidding our four card suits up the line starting with diamonds over our pds 1 club opener?
  8. Sorry, the problem was given to me without any other information.
  9. What would be the best line to make 6 Hearts after a lead of the club ten from west? North: Jxxx Kxx Qx AJxx South: AKQ AJTxx AKx Q9
  10. Dear Paul and list, I just need to say this thread leaves a bad taste in my mouth. As an "intermediate" member of the "Biginner Intermediate Lounge", which put on this "MEMEBERS CHOICE" tournament, it seems this is just more pettiness that has disappointedly increased in the Beginner Intermediate Lounge's, short history. Interesting this drama isn't created by the beginner intermediates, but of it's mentors and teachers. This was a tournament where the members were allowed to ask the person of thier choice to pd with them, preferably someone more advanced, but how advanced wasn't specified. In fact it was established in the first "pro/am" tourney that Pro didn't apply to just world class players, experts and pro's but to any of our mentors, teachers, friends of the club, personal and otherwise, who by their interest in the mission of the b/i lounge would give of their time to help it's members. So, not all the so called "experts" were experts, nor was their any pretension that they were. Likewise not all the "beginners" were beginners, nor was their any pretention they were, nor any restrictions that they must be. We ranged from Novice to World Class, with all the ranges in between. The person being labled an expert here, was a friend of the Beginner Intermediate lounge whom I asked to play with another friend and member of the b/i lounge who didn't know of anyone to ask and was too shy to ask someone he didn't know. So I asked for him. The person labed as expert was kind enough to play with him at last minute notice. The tone and implications of this thread neglects the truth, goodwill and intentions the person being discussed here. This distasteful thread has turned something someone did as a favor to me, to my friend, and member of the b/i lounge, and their interest and support of the b/i lounge into something demeaning and adolescent. I am sincerely considering quitting the b/i lounge, and considering it isn't the first time I had to consider this, I should prolly just go with my gut on it. Sincerely, Jef
  11. So the conclusion we can conclude, from all of you who believe there is no option here, is that playing 2/1, with game forcing values, 4 spades and a biddable minor, over pd's 1 heart opening, we always preference the 2/1 bid before bidding our 4 card spade suit? That is at least what I am getting. The problem was intended to be less about the specific hand rather more about the concept and judgement that goes into making a 2/1 bid in the situation mentioned above. I was sure there use to be more debate about this. Thank you Ron and Hrothgar for providing us with some counterpoint. Jef
  12. Yesterday, sitting north, playing imps, all vulnerable, I picked up this hand: Void AKQJ9 AQ653 AJ3 starting with East the bidding proceeds: (p)p(2s)? I chose to double then cue bid, but after I wondered if I make a michaels bid and cue again if that would send the same message that I have a very strong 2 suited hand? Tyia, Jef
  13. So you preference the 2/1 because diamonds is a six card suit? If I move a little diamonds to the clubs, would you still preference the 2/1 bid? tyia, Jef
  14. This is an old debate but may be new to many reading this forum and rather than rehashing it in the sayc 2/1 forum I am going to ask for y'alls comments here. Playing 2/1 and your pd opens 1 heart; holding AKQ9 x Q8xxxx Kx What do you bid; 1 spade or a game forcing 2/1 bid of 2 diamonds? I know I would like to know your reasoning behind your preference also. Thank you in advanced, Jef
  15. I chose to bid 3 clubs thinking that if there was a reasonable chance of game that knowing a potential source of tricks would help. My pd bid 3 diamonds over 3 clubs at which point I panicked thinking my 3 club had drawn a map sufficiently for the opps so I bid 3nt -1. If I were more bold, I suppose a 3 heart bid would have been more of a psyche then 3nt. Pd held: Txx Qxx Axx AQTx Jef
  16. I should add we were Vulnerable. tyia, Jef
  17. In a team match yesterday with some fellow B/Iers, sitting south, I was dealt this hand: K98x xx K9 K9xxx bidding: W N E S P 1C P 1S P 1NT P ? What do you bid, if anything? If you invite, how would you invite and why...tyia. Jef
  18. I was wondering if it would be reasonable to ask that some sort of bell or whistle be attached to tourney invitations? On several occasions I have been invited to play in a tourney, but because I was out of visual sight of my computer, but within earshot, I didn't see the invitation til to late. Ty, Jef
