  1. 1 nt. I tend to reopen light. Also the Bridge World bid.
  2. From Photo on Cover Ned Downey and Ellen Pomer. Standard Bidding with SAYC. 2005. I believe that the source refutes aquahombre's claim that the Card specifies preemptive double raises over all competition, and not just the special case of over the takeout double. As aquahombre has noted, the booklet with the Yellow Card agrees with the interpretation that normally double raises with or without competetion are limit. So do Downey and Pomer.
  3. Using standard SAYC, a jump raise to 3 over an simple overcall is a limit raise(10-12). Thus 2♠, partner's proper response, would show a stronger raise. In all standard 2 over 1 texts, however, 2♠ is an invitational or better raise as the previous replies have stated.
  4. In SAYC I believe the book interpretation of opener's second round double is penalty, 2 NT by responder then would be natural and invitationala suggestion to play NT with a full passed hand with stoppers in the red suits. (Opener has promised values in the blacks.) Most 2/1 styles use opener's second round double as conventional. 3 main types-promising a 4 card heart suit, a three card diamond raise, or a general takeout. The Bridge World's polls suggest that standard expert practice in the specific auction ending with this double only the opener has promised a 4 card heart suit. Regardless of specific convention, 2NT then would be natural and invitational with a spade stop or two. These conventions require an alert. If partner alerted we would not hear. If we don't know our own system and we failed to alert, we wuld not find out until 1. we remembered, and /or 2. too late.
  5. I approve of double. 3NT outrageous overbid. Doubler if short of diamonds needs even less in hcp. I would have advanced 3 clubs. 2NT would be an overbid. I assume lebensohl does not apply.
