  1. 2NT - 3C The 3C is natural. I do not believe it has to be alerted. What say you ?
  2. I bought a Google Chromecast for $29 this weekend. I can now mirror my tablet screen wirelessly on my TV. Much easier to see than on my little table screen.
  3. I have always been disappointed that I couldn't run interactive books on my Android tablet. (e.g. Mike Lawrence on Counting, The 2/1 system, etc) These are designed for Windows. Install Chrome Remote Desktop App on your tablet (get it at the Google Play Store). Install The Chrome R.D. Host on your PC Choose a PIN number Connect to your PC from the tablet Open the bridge tutorial/interactive book Use "pinch" to size the book window to your tablet screen size. Off you go! It took a few minutes to get comfortable with moving the cursor and clicking but now it's easy.
  4. 1NT - 2C (single suited hand) - 2H - P (me) No announcement of a transfer. The bidders are known to play a simple game and they had no conv. card. I held AQ10xx in H behind the heart bidder. If I had know the bid was a transfer, I would have made a lead directing dbl. They ended up in 3NT down one. My partner held KJ of hearts. opps are 3-3 in hearts. If I get the heart lead they are down a minimum of three. I called the director (and angered the opponents). What is the correct action by the director ?
  5. Is it just my problem or is the new ACBL on-line learning software uselessly slow? My link
  6. I run two unsanctioned bridge games and a bidding/play review evening every week at our Senior Center (East Lyme CT). I make my ACBL bulletins available for loan to these folks and they pass them around. I am not able to buy a full subscription to Bridge World, but would like to make some available. (and, of course, read them myself). If you have any back issues to sell at a reasonable price please let me know. I would say they should be within the last 10-15 years, so these players don't get ideas that aren't consistent with current thinking when I convince them to expand their bridge horizon. (I have had some success in getting some folks to play sectionals and to move from Chicago to duplicate)
  7. Now I see...... In the USA the vast majority of "serious" players use support doubles even at the club level.
  8. The bidding has gone: 1♣- P - 1♥- 1♠ 2♥ Must 2♥ be alerted as promising 4+ ♥ because a support dbl would show 3 card support. I disagree with an alert. By logical extension, if I play WJSs not in competition and I respond 1S to partners 1D opener, should I alert that since pard did not make a WJS he does not have.....
  9. I am thinking of buying the Samsung Note 10.1 tablet. It will run Android 4.2. It doesn't come with FLASH. Does the BBO Androi app require FLASH?
  10. Forget it. Rule 68 says dummy must speak up & director must be called.
  11. With 4 tricks to go, the defenders are on lead and my partner claims the remaining tricks. There is one trump out. The claim is accepted. As dummy, I see several obvious lines of play where the defenders get another trick. Do I, as dummy, challenge their acceptance of the claim or must they discover their error. I do not see this addressed in the rules.
  12. I was wondering how difficult it would be to convert the proliferating interactive bridge CDs to work from files stored either in the cloud or in tablet memory (IOS, Android, preferable both). It would be a hoot to be able learn from Lawrence, Cohen, Kantar et. al. while sitting in an easy chair or when away from home. I would definitely pay for tablet versions of these lessons.
  13. Does anyone know if Deep Finesse plays the best possible defense? That is, does it always set the contract if there is a line of play that ensure a set? Thanks
  14. Never mind..........I screwed up my courage and rooted my Fire. However, for the good of BB, BB mobile should be in another Android store for easy install on tablets which can't access the Google store.
  15. I have 3.4.1 on my Kindle Fire. Is there a place besides Google Play where I can find 3.5 for Android ? A Kindle Fire must be rooted in order to access Google Play. I am reluctant to play with the Fire firmware.
  16. When Kindle does an auto update, they often turn off Flash. Go into your settings.
  17. FYI. the app works fine on my Kindle Fire. It can be found at 1mobile. Thanks, I should have known you were ahead of me.
  18. "Adobe has finally seen the same light Steve Jobs did in 2010 and is now committed to putting mobile Flash player in the history books as soon as possible." Item said that Flash on future versions of Android will not be supported. If true, I am sure we will eventually get new software from BB. (otherwise I will have to cancel all future travel and spend the rest of my life near my home PC!)
  19. Amazon released a Fire software update and Bridgebase stopped working on my tablet. All you get is a message stating you need Flash. I see others have the same problem. The fix is to go to the Fire web browser, go into settings, and scroll down to Flash settings. The Amazon update apparently came with a default of Flash disabled. Simply select Flash always on or Flash on demand and VOILA Bridgebase is back in business.
  20. When I played this hand, I estimated the probability of 11 tricks was very high. It only fails if the diamond ace AND both club honors are with east. I guess I am asking how much of an edge you need to take the risk.
  21. I am in 4 spades playing match point duplicate. I have a laydown 10 tricks. The defenders have not bid and no reliable count has been revealed. There are still hearts out. The last 6 tricks come down to the following (I am in south). All trump are out. Everyone figures to be in 4 spades. ---- ---- Kx AJ10x xx --- xx xx All I need are my two spade tricks and the club ace to make my contract. What is the proper plan? At imps I would take my tricks.
  22. I have a home PC and a laptop. Would I be able to install one copy of Bridge Baron on two machines or would they require that I buy two copies? That would be a bit pricey. I couldn't find anything abut this on their web site.
  23. Some pairs, near the end of a session will bid recklessly in an attempt to get top scores. This gives an advantage to the pairs they play late in the session. If the behavior is obvious or admitted, are there any rulings on this disruptive behavior?
