  1. Bigos looks delicious. I wish I had had more Polish food while I was there. Pierogies rock.
  2. But you have Jx and Qx lol. Those are pretty darn good. 9 tricks are easier to establish than 10, especially opposite a partner who can't bid 3♥ knowing you can bid 3♠ as a NT probe.
  3. I think a low ♣ lead is still clear regardless of your ♣ holding. If the opponents aren't nuts, your lead won't matter. A low club disrupts some communication, hopefully. The problem here is that if this is a junior event, anyone at the table might, in fact, be nuts.
  4. I'm making fajitas for dinner. I had quite the dilemma when I discovered steak, chicken, AND shrimp in my freezer. The obv solution was a combo, but I'm lazy so I chose I like the green salsa.
  5. Ya. Mike's thought process is very reasonable, and a good indication of why a ♣ lead is better than the alternatives when you can see they're cold. Am I miscounting or don't I just need one ♣ ruff if everything splits, Fluffy? Maybe it's better to ruff the ♣, pull two rounds of trumps, two rounds of diamonds, and hope to claim. Edit: wrong, not enough transportation. ignore me. just need 1 ruff and pointed suited 3-2
  6. nh wd. I'd be mad too if I got 0% for 3NT :) Glad it got sorted out.

Yes, North should have bid again, and it was pretty obvious. 4♠ shows a strong hand and 2 aces and some stuff is definitely worth some noise from you.
  8. Please don't double with this hand.
  9. I completely agree with kenberg. For many students, 2-year CC is such a perfect situation. They can work a job in addition to taking classes, which gives them valuable work experience while teaching them independence and money management and all the important life skills they need to be good at. I hope we all agree here that many 18 and 19 year olds aren't at a point in their life to make important decisions about the direction the rest of their life will take. I went to a school where first year dropout and failure rates were amazingly high. Many of the students who flunked out for no reason other than irresponsibility and immaturity were eligible for and received thousands of dollars in scholarships. These scholarships are funded by the state lottery, but I don't know if that's the source of all the money. Anyway, I think we can all agree that there is some waste that occurs regarding taxpayer money. Some of that, as far as education goes, is wasted because of poor choices by students themselves.
  10. Sorry, I'm grunching this whole thread but I saw this post and had to brag that I made a profit from going to college. Full ride+ excess financial aid yielded $2500 a year in profit.
  11. not an easy lead problem defending 2♥.
  12. If we had a vote for coolest person on the forums, my vote would go to kfay ainec.
  13. Bleh I can't come to Reno. How about also Philly?
  14. of course lol. Yeah, I taught classes to high school students (all 16-18) and it was pretty hard to get them coming back, but I had the most success with "Hey, everyone bring a friend next week. So and so is making cookies, I'm bringing soda, if everyone pitches in a few bucks we'll get pizza." So I spent a couple bucks on soda, but instead of 1-2 tables we had 4-5. I'm sure with an entire university campus available to you, you can get much better results. In other words, the priorities of a bridge club should be 1) to socialize and a distant 2) learn bridge.
  15. I'll lead a club. Hoping ♦ aren't solid and partner has ♣A or something.
  16. I admit I don't like this approach. Might partner be cuebidding a stiff ♣? If so, now you're in a terrible spot to judge what to do. You can't bid 4♦ because partner will think his ♦ values are useful. You can't bid 4♥ because partner will think we have no ♦ control when he has xxx(x) or something lol. You can't bid 4♠ because partner gave you the ♣ cue you wanted to hear so badly. Etc.
  17. I'm in for 6♥. Even if this is wrong they sacrifice sometimes.
  18. Pizza + don't stop posting fliers/advertisements in high-traffic areas around campus.
  19. I'd bid 4♣ and take the low road opposite a 4♦ cue.
