  1. What has happened to the BBO is a disgrace. I have been trying for days to find the site I usually play on without success. What a shame........
  2. Seems like a waste of time to post anything on this forum.
  3. Dear Sirs: Thank you for the BBO. It is a great way for the partially deaf to be able to play bridge. Two questions: 1: When a player leaves, sometimes it is a long while before another joins and I fall asleep. Could a loud sound be added when the new player joins??? 2: I could not use your email address to ask this question. I use Gmail.
  4. Thanks for any help. My Windows 7 computer is down. I tried to get on the BBO using this Linux computer and failed. First of all Adobe Flash Player won't compile on the Linux Ubuntu-mate OS. The BBO start screen won't even let me sign in. Or am I doing something wrong!!!!!
  5. Thank you for the BBO. Just info: Chrome and Internet Explorer 11 don't like each other. I went back as far as I could go with IE 8. Best I could do. Now the hassle with IE has gone away. When I sign on the BBO I have to go to Options every time to set the BBO the way I like it. It there a way to make those changes permanent? I would like to be able to hover over my name and be able to see my profile. Would like very much to have a rose and a wilted rose for Ops making or losing the bid. I think it adds a sense of humor to the game. I am on the new software. Regards, Jack Shankle (counter13)
  6. Thank you for the BBO. Stats: Windows 7 pro 64-bit, Internet Explorer 11, latest BBO software, ISP: Opticaltel in Florida Everything else is working except the BBO. I have read where this has been going on for years. I really don't want the extra baggage of Chromium, as I can't get rid of Internet Explorer and I am not fond of Chromium. Thanks for any help.
  7. Sorry fromageGB my browser is chrome. When I request the BBO it asks me to install the Flash Player. Being new to Ubuntu, I downloaded Flash Player and I have no idea where it puts it. Then I have to expand it. I am not a fan of flash player. Thank you for helping.
  8. Thanks for responding fromageGB and helene_t. Running Gmail under chrome Ubuntu Mate - mate v 1.12.1 Ubuntu v 16.09 I also don't like Flash Player..... I kind of need details how to get into the online BBO. Ubuntu is the problem.... I usually go on the BBO with windows 7 pro 64-bit. The puter I am sending this message from is also 64-bit.
  9. Dear Sirs: My windows puter is down. Am trying to play on wiffies puter on Ubuntu. I can't get past Adobe flash player. Knowledge of Ubuntu is sparse to say the least. So I am in deep withdrawal as I can't play bridge!!!! Flash player is on Ubuntu somewhere as .tar program. I downloaded it yesterday. If you move this message I'll never be able to find it. Thanks for any help.
  10. I guesds I am doomed to play bridge with NO sound.
  11. Thanks for replying. I viewed netsounds and that didn't solve my problem. Yes the items under sound are highlighted and that doesn't give me any sound either.
  12. For quite awhile now I have been unable to get any sound when playing the BBO. Sound works for other things. Running: Windows Vista Sandboxie ESET SS Sound is needed as it wakes me up when it's my turn to play. Thanks for any help
  13. Thanks all for replying. I have downloaded the latest program "Playonlinux" from the repository. NOW WHAT do I do???? I don't think "playonlinux" was intended to be used for an online program like Bridge Base Online. Tell me if I am wrong.
  14. Hi Anne, Sorry posted in the wrong place.
  15. Thank you for responding. I am under the impression that downloading a program in any Linux distro is a nono. Your supposed to go to use synaptic and load what you find there. I'm pretty sure "Flash Player" is not my problem. The Linux distro "PCLinuxOS" is using version 10.0.32.18-1pclos2009. There is no reference to "Flash Player when clicking on "Play Bridge" in the Linux version. I've tried "Playonlinux" but can't seem to get the latest version or figure out how to use it. Last time I played bridge using the Linux version I had to quit as I was causing to much trouble for the other players.
  16. Thank you for responding. I will try to use the one you suggested. The one thing that I think is missing is the Movie. Been able to adjust most other things for these old tired eyes. Also having trouble greeting my Partner. Keeps on giving Permission Denied How about the idea of running Virtual box in PCLinuxOS and bypassing Wine?
  17. I also tried "Playonlinux". That keeps on telling me there is an update to V 3.6 but I can't find it. It certainly is not in the repositories. So How do I download it??????
  18. I am sorry but your comments are confusing to me. Here is what I am doing in PCLinuxOS. I sign on to FireFox and type in "www.bridgebaseonline.com". This brings up a totally different window than what I have been using in the Windows BBO. I guess I am using Flash Player as I do get a BBO window. PCLinuxOS must be loaded with Flash Player but I didn't install it. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong? Also to get in this forum I can use the same ID that I use in the Windows BBO. However I had to create another PW for this forum.
  19. Actually a separate forum is needed for those trying to use the Linux BBO without using Wine. Am I the only one trying to use the linux BBO??? Sure would like to talk to someone who actually uses it. Thanks
  20. I have been playing bridge on the Windows BBO and I like the format but am trying to rid myself of the Windows menace. I have been on the Linux BBO reading what I can and finding the format quite different. This makes me hesitant to play with live persons while learning the nitty-gritty of the Linux forum. Is there a tutorial for the Linux forum that I can read. Thanks for any help.
  21. Thank you Barmar for a very informative reply. I am going to take a screen shot of your message and try to follow your instructions for my various problems. If it's a work in progress I can understand the difficulties. In general I am pleased with the Windows BBO. There I would like to see the Profiles made more like the ACBL convention card. It's hard to get enough detail in your profile the way it is now.
  22. I don't know how to say this but it is intended to be constructive. Maybe it's my lack of detailed knowledge of the Ubuntu BBO site but I find it abominable. In comparing it to the Windows BBO site I didn't know if i was playing Rubber bridge, IMPs or MPs . Couldn't see a way to find out how others did with the same hand. Couldn't move the chat area so that I could see more than one message. Program is slow. On the Windows site in WP people are constantly leaving, not so on the Ubuntu WP using "open Tables". Very little movement and not many partially empty tables. For people who want to get away from the Windows mess this is very discouraging. I understand that all of this is free and for that I thank you but some programmer needs to take some pointers from the Windows site and improve the Ubuntu site IMHO.
  23. Thank you for your patience with me. I was able to get in the "open Tables' finally. 2@ Ubuntu working on 3@
  24. Thanks for the help. I'm logged in as "counter13" Ok , I've been pushing "full Tables" and "refresh" I seem to remember trying "open tables without success but I am not certain. Will try that again. The rest of the stuff I am doing. I'll report back if the "open tables doesn't solve the problem.
  25. Thanks everyone for replying. I have no idea if I have the FLASH version or not. The problem as I see it in the WP is that the tables all show full and clicking on "Show Tables" and "Refresh" does nothing to change that. If I would click on a player how would I know if the table is full or not. You all must be looking at something different from what I'm getting. Regards, counter13 2% Ubuntu working on 3%
