  1. Your partner had an easy 2♥ bid instead of pass, you have an easy 2♥ instead of 3♥, 4♣ by your opponent was another very bad move. I think I can live with other bids at the table. You realized that if partner has ♦A you have good chances to beat them by leading ♦K, so... good luck.
  2. Is there any software for this? OP asked "How", but I don't see any answer here.
  3. If 1♣ is natural then .. ''An overcall of a natural opening bid of one of a suit that does not promise at least four cards in a known suit'' is brown sticker. However I agree that it makes more sense to bid 2♦ immediately with 11-15 and 6♦+ Check this idea
  4. 1) Would be nice to know their methods. Was 2♥ GF? Did 2♠ show 6? Feels like a ♣ (especially if they are playing in a 5-3 fit), but i would really like know their methods. 2) Ok-ey, this is between ♥ and ♦. I want a passive lead, but not ♣. Opener might not have enough enteries for finesses. Did opener have a tool to show a short suit? If i suspect that he is 5422 or 5521 i would lead a ♥. If i think he might have 5431 then i would go with ♦, because i don't want to lead in declarers 3c suit and if i do i would prefer ♦.
  5. Your hypothesize holds true for all auctions and methods. There is no magic bidding cure to weak NT's that only top of the top knows.
  6. I would much rather open 1N with 11-13 and 1D with 13-16 NV.
  7. I want to share my experience with some boards i saw in vugraph. Maybe you have something to add for discussion. [hv=pc=n&s=sak76ha97dq942ct5&w=s82hkqj3dakj85ca9&n=sj4h82dt76cqj7642&e=sqt953ht654d3ck83&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1dppp]399|300[/hv] Lauria-Versace were the only ones who didn't get to 4♥ despite 2 pairs opening this in 3♣. The bidding [P]- pass - [1♦] wasn't a popular one and repeated only once, but East (Balicki) found a 1♠ in the same situation. Would you have found it? [hv=pc=n&s=sq6ht96dt962ca986&w=sa52h52dkq7cj7532&n=sk43haj843dj843cq&e=sjt987hkq7da5ckt4&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=pp1h1s2hdp2np3sp3nppp]399|300[/hv] I think this was an interesting deal both system and judgement wise. I don't know what 2NT meant, but double was presumably was some good ♠ raise. There was only one other pair who X-ed. It was already mentioned Balicki - Zmudzinski who had the same auction, but they ended up in 3♠, but it was still +6 IMPs. Most other pairs who bid 2N or 3♥ (Like Helgemo - Helness) ended up in 4♠-1. Some went went for more cautions immediate 2♠ (like Wijs - Muller and Nystrom - Upmark). I remember reading about this auction in Revision club and author gave quite good arguments why X should be some ♠ raise, interesting why other pairs haven't adopted the same treatment.. Let it be 3. [hv=pc=n&e=sqjt873h5dk763ca8&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=1c1s2hp4h]133|200[/hv] North basically has 12-14 balanced. In other tables bidding started also with 1N and 1♦. Helgemo-Helness faced auction in diagram and passed in tempo. Balicki faced [1♦] - 1♠ - [4♥] and doubled. At least one other pair faced [1♣]- 1♠ - [4♥] and bid 4♠. How do you plan to handle this hand?
  8. Do some cardio exercise, really. That helps.
  9. Top or middle. If single suit is odd (like 4432) then lead middle one. If even (like 1345) lead high.
  10. 1♣ is 16+ except 19-20 bal; 1♦ is 0-7. Here is the backbone of the structure: 1♥ = any 5♥+ or 4♥4♠; or 5m4♥0-2♠ that doesn't want to bid NT ............ 1♠ = 4♠+ forcing ............ ............ 1N = artificial forcing; 3♠ or very strong hand ............ ............ 2♣ = 5♥332♠ or 4♣+ unbal NF ............ ............ 2♦ = 4♦+ unbal NF ............ ............ 2♥ = 6♥ 0-2♠ NF ............ ............ 2♠ = 4♠ not much action ............ 1N = semiforcing 0-3♠; 3♥ possible with very weak hand only. ............ 2♣ = 6/7HCP, 0-3♠, 0-2 ♥. ............ 2♦ = good 3+♥ raise 5+/7 HCP ............ 2♥ weak ♥ raise, but not any trash with just 3♠ 1♠ = 5♠ F1 ............1N like a forcing notrump ............ 2♣ 5/7HCP hand with 5♣+ ............ 2♦ 5♥+ like 5/7HCP ............ 2♥ good ♠ raise ............ 2♠ weak ♠ raise, but not any trash with just 3♠ 1N = bal 16-18 can be 5m4x or 6m etc, if appropriate hand. Can't have 4♥4♠ 2♣ = 4♠3♥ or 4♥3♠ 5-1 or 6-0 in minors, forcing. ............ 2♦ asking, at lest on one 4cM. ............ ............ 2♥ = 4♥3♠ less than GF ............ ............ 2♠ = 4♠3♥ less than GF ............ 2♥ = weak hand, less than invite 5♥+ ............ 2♠ = weak hand, less than invite 5♠+ ............ 2N = weak hand, forcing, aims to play in partners 5m+ or some strong hands with sgl in M and minor fits. ............ 3♣ = invitational assuming opener has ♣, passable. 2♦ = 5m+4♠0-2♥ forcing. Too good/shapely for 1NT ............ 2♥ = NF somewhat decent hand 6♥+ ............ 2♠ = NF less than invite ............ 2N = asks which minor ............ 3♣ = 6♣+ (or possibly 5♣2♦ !?) around 5 points, passable. 2♥ = 5♣+ unbal no 4M, too strong or shapely for 1NT, forcing. 2♠ = 5♦+ unbal no 4M, too strong or shapely for 1NT, forcing. 2NT = 21/23 no 4♥ unless 4333 3♣ = 5♣+ 5♦+ suit oriented, NF. 3♦ = 6♦+ 4♣ very good hand, NF. 3♥ = 5♣+ 5♦+ GF. 3♠ = 6♦4♣ GF. 3N = nat How good/bad, playable/unplayable do you think this is?
  11. Thanks for advice. Strong club with mini NT and nebulous 1♦ NV; I have idea(s) for VUL, but i haven't had motivation to evolve these system much further than opening bids.
  12. Hi there, I have been away from active bridge for some time, mainly because of studies and lack of strong partner, but it is summer now and i would like to get back.. So... I'm looking for a strong partner. Prferably from Europe and less than 35 y.o. I strongly prefer to play what i think is best regarding bidding systems... so, i'm looking for an educated partner, but also one who would be willing to play my methods.
  13. I don't think ruffing with low or 8 later matters that much, but there are quite a lot of 2 - 5 you can bring home... so i actually think ♣A-♣K - ♣ ruffed high is best start. So we know ♣ break. Another critical hand is: LHO with 5♥ and RHO with the ♦A - there are some chances if you don't play ♥A. (Manage to ruff a ♣, take away trumps and score last ♣.) (not that easy - not worth considering IMO) So... at trick 5 i intend to play ♥ to A (You can probably cash ♠ winners too - don't see how it matters a lot) and ruff ♥ and see how they break: if 4-2 i would cash spades and try to ruff another ♥
  14. I don't get why people keep playing natural 2NT in competition - it is not worth it. i think i like lebensohl type 2NT better here.
  15. Really good in general. If i agreed to play same system NV - VUl this would be close to optimal.
  16. But I thought you play 1H as a relay...
  17. It seems like there are quite a lot of people who have psychological problems with 5-1 fits. AFIK 5♣1M min is auto pass; 6♣1M min is usually 3 ♣; any max = bid again. Also i have observed people have pretty bad hand selection for 2M...
  18. Out of curiosity: ♠x ♥AQTxx ♦J8xx ♣Axx Is this 2♦? If so, then how do you bid over partners 2♥/2♠? ♠xx ♥KQJxx ♦KTxx ♣xx How do you aim to handle this?
  19. Your scheme featured 1♠-2♦-2♥ as ''other, misfitting'' and 2♠ as ''6 spades, most strengths''. I claimed that some other method is better on which you gave single argument that you would ''rather chance a 6-0 than a 5-0.'' On which I asked what you do with 5♥0-1♠ over partners 2♥ = ''other, misfitting''. Then from what I understand from your argument and awm's response is that you never pass 2♥ with 5♥ and commit yourself to 3rd level. Didn't feel necessity to contribute more to that thread. So It feels to me like there should be a way to show 5♥ and stop in 2nd level ....so answer to OP lies in awm's response.
  20. You don't have answers for my questions, but you seem to like awm's response to my post.
  21. No, but they obviously have some merit. BTW, if you agree to play no 4M version you still can and should open 2m with some appropriate 6m4M's.
