  1. Wouldn't you be better playing 2♦ = signoff in ♥/♣/♦ or 4=♥ and 4+♠ (to be shown by rebidding 2♠) 2♠ = signoff in spades 2♥= inv 4+♥ keri style. Oops. Now no way to show invitational in spades. Sorry Dean
  2. If 2♦= Signoff (puppet to ♥) 2♥/♠/3♣/3♦= Invitational Keri style Wouldn't you be better playing 2♦ = signoff in ♥/♣/♦ or 4=♥ and 4+♠ (to be shown by rebidding 2♠) 2♠ = signoff in spades 2♥= inv 4+♥ keri style. This fixes the problem of both majors which Klinger obviously did lots of work on. You also have a 2NT followup after 2♦. Maybe you could use that as a puppet to clubs followed by new suit = RKCB in that suit.
  3. I like BEWARE X = any two suiter 9-14 suit = natural 9-14 3 -level = preemptive 2NT = 15-17 very good single suiter. If sitting over the weak NT bidder then double = penalties and 2C = majors. Dean
  4. I think there is a difference between Lackwood and voidwood/exclusion blackwood. Lackwood is used when you have two or more small cards in a suit and want to know if partner can control the suit for slam purposes. its more of an asking bid. Typically you might use it after a preempt e.g. 4♠ : 5♦ Where 5♦ is lackwood agreeing spades. Replies are Return to trump suit = no control 6 trump suit = second round control (King or singleton) With first round control e..g Ace or void give RKCB by steps e.g. 4♠ : 5♦ ? 5♠ = no control 6♠ = King or singleton 5♥ = 1 or 4 key cards and total control of diamonds. 5N = 0 or 3 key cards and total control 6♣=2 key cards no queen and total control. etc As others have mentioned Voidwood/exlcusion blackwood is used when you have a void and want to know partners key cards outside that suit. Then there is also Weakwood. Like RKCB but with different cut down responses and usefull when you know partner has a weak hand e.g. after a preempt 3♠ : 4NT ? 5♣ = at most the Queen of trums 5♦ Q + 1 Key card 5♥ = 2 key cards no queen 5♠ = 2 keay cards + queen etc In fact I use lackwood with weakwood responses.
  5. Hi I response to an overcall I play Jeff Ruben's transfer advances. Transfers start at 2 of openers suit. So 1H : (2C) : NB : ? 2D = Natural 2H = spades 2S = Good club raise 2N = natural 3C = weaker club raise. 3D = Fit showing/splinter etc - you choose. Its important that NT bids be natural to rightside contracts. You can define "new suits" as forcing or non forcing depending on your style. Note that this leaves a hole in the system. Balancedish hands with say 11+ HCP and bad two card support which used to use an Unassuming cue are now hard to bid. Overall thou a vast improvement. I don't think I'd want to play transfers in response to an opener bind and then intervention. Didn't Bergen suggest soemthing called switch where the meaning of bids changed e.g. 1C : (1S) : ? X = club raise 2C = 4+ hearts i.e negative. Dean
  6. Hi Does anyone have a copy of auc.ps thats readable either with Ghostscript or Distiller? I downloaded a copy from http:www.bridge.hotmail.ruRedaucauc.ps but can't open it Even better would be a .dvi format file. Thanks Dean
  7. A different twist on the Don't/Cappaletti style is Beware (against weak NT) X = 9-14 two suiter or 18+ flat suit = natural. 2NT = Good overcall say 13-16 3-any = weak Using double to show a two suiter is more frequent than double to show a single suiter hence advancer gets to pass a lot. If opponents are Vuls vs Not then we play double as straight penalty and play 2C=majors. After a double the first double by either partner is takeout, others=penalty.
