lebensohl yes, so can't get out into 3D if partner's got clubs.

well, in a way it's hard to comment because your methods are unusually bad. 2d should be forcing (yes, before anyone says anything says about acol, it should be forcing in any methods) in which case you would rebid them to show 5-5. for most people 3♦ is a spinter for clubs, and for some invitational 5-5, but evidently you were at least on the same wavelength. anyway once east rebids them, west should be positively delighted to play in diamonds (an ace, 2 honours in partner's suits and the ability to ruff the first suit out). sadly due to the lack of space, on account of the wanky methods, making the cuebid that this west hand is worth would be a little tricky. as for east he should probably (this is v close and i'm possibly mistaken and a simulation will say 6c is odds on) just pass 5 clubs. his hand has got worse and worse. he should be envisaging something like jxx x kx aqjxxxx. it's quite tricky for west to have enough to make 6C great though equally it's always going to have some play.

[hv=pc=n&s=sak54h762dak632c5&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=p2h(5%20hearts%2C%204+%20minor)]133|200[/hv] Scoring is BAM, matchpoints on steroids for the uninitiated. In case you haven't bothered to click the 2H bid, it's weak with hearts and a minor 54+. If you think it's relevant, teamies just play 3 weak 2s. lebensohl, yes, so no scramble. and 3D over 3C or 2NT is GF.

i double. don't need much from p to make 3nt. at this vulnerability it's far too big a position to take to pass imo, risk/reward, etc. on a bad day passers score -140 and score up with -600.

you remind me of an english player i saw playing in spain who called the director to complain about the opponents speaking a foreign language (it was spanish).

bid forcing 1nt or make a 2/1 bid?
wank replied to movingon's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
noone has claimed it's worth a 2/1. those who choose to bid 2♣ are doing so knowing it's an overbid because it has other benefits. you might not consider those benefits to be adequate, but it's silly to pretend they don't exist. -
How do we avoid this?

west doesn't have a 3 club bid -
how do you find results of other people?

bid forcing 1nt or make a 2/1 bid?
wank replied to movingon's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
2♣ is only a modest overbid and i'll make it because it leaves me in a better position for the rest of the auction. for example, i don't want to get to the NTs first with this hand. it's not unlikely we can make 3nt by p's hand. -
possible, but absurd. it's obviously far more important to be able to show 5 hearts than 6 clubs.

i blame south - he had so many other options, like what kind of selfish player responds to blackwood by showing his number of aces rather than introducing his qjxx?

who's playing this stuff, the garvey brothers?
-
you devote that sequence to 9 trick hands? this is an example of 1 thing i've noticed on bbf: the standard of bidding in england is far lower than in other countries for players of a similar overall level.
-
if you've got no system, just bid 6 diamonds.
-
you're 100% wrong. 2 clubs shows a far stronger hand and forces to game. anyway, going off in 4h is rarely a big problem as it the opponents can normally make something when your hand is very pure.

My pard opens 2 Clubs
wank replied to katonka's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
3nt is pretty bad, but considerably better than 3d or 3h. just bid 2nt and let partner describe his hand. you can continue bidding later to convey your extra strength. 3d and 3h should be natural with at least a decent 5 card suit. there is absolutely no reason your own suit can't be trumps. -
a lot of them open 1nt on 19 and 20 too. they just don't understand the NT ladder.

[hv=pc=n&n=sqjt643hkdaq742cj&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=ppp1sp2hp]133|200[/hv] imps doesn't seem like a tricky problem to me, but a superior player made a different call to the one i would have chosen and got a bad result. call this a resulting check.
-
now you've no option but to pass, but that's not a catastrophe because your hand's not very good despite its 16 high. nice little convention for the occasion: if partner doubles i think 3s should be a transfer to 3nt and show something roughly like this.

if you think the person is being deliberately evasive, call the director. don't worry about offending someone who's behaving like a tosser.

Would You Open in 4th Seat
wank replied to eagles123's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
yes 3c. i 'pre-empt' in 4th because i expect to make. -
his bid was fine. just because you wouldn't make a bid doesn't make it 'inadmissable'.
