  1. I played count here for a long time until a partner better than myself set me straight. Definitely an attitude card for me.
  2. I still have trouble reading sometimes. Especially jdonn posts: is he serious or being sarcastic?
  3. I would rebid 2NT on the second one and 3♦ on the first one, although I admit it might be an idiosyncratic (moronic?) idea. On the second one, I have at least some help in all of the side suits, and it looks like a good hand for nt. On the first one, I am wide open in hearts, and have a bit more concentration. Out of curiousity, what would I have bid with 6-7 diamonds, 17-18 points and exactly 3 spades?
  4. Heart for me, without great conviction.
  5. I used to play a style where this was a 3♦ bid, but I have been converted and now play this is a 2♠ catch all. Partner bids 2NT if it is at all possible, and then we can bid 3♦. I was skeptical at first, but it does seem to work out reasonably well.
  6. Oh, and I meant negative double - can I edit the title?
  7. I was kibitzing some experts and Bart Bramley had this decision (spots approx., forgot vul): [hv=d=n&s=sq7hkqj9dat853cj4]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1♣* (1♠) ? *2+ He chose double, while I would have bid my long suit. What do y'all think? If you double, where do you draw the line? I assume you would bid 2♦ with x KQJ9 AKT9xx xx?
  8. 4♠ for me - to me partner showed a better hand than a 4th seat 2♠ opener.
  9. I feel old when I realize that not only do I not do the things I used to (i.e. staying out late drinking etc.), but that I also have no desire to do such things any more. Get me in bed by 10 PM on a Friday night and I am happy.
  10. That real life can be a b**** sometimes, eh?
  11. When I was pretty new to bridge and a friend and I were filling out a card, we agreed to play that 3S over 2NT showed 35(32) and exactly 8 HCP. Never came up.
  12. That is also illegal. Suppose you want to play loose preempts against takeout doubles and disciplined ones against penaly doubles. I want to play penalty doubles against loose preempts and takout against disciplined ones. What happens? It is my understanding that this is why one side must decide first, and the side that acts first must commit. However, I am not a laws expert, so maybe I should not be answering.
  13. I have never been in a match in which one side conceded. I guess that does not really add anything to the thread -- sorry.
  14. 1) Yes, w/w MPs .... 2) Nope. 3) Nope.
  15. none of the above. 2H for me.
  16. Hmm, that is good point about the breaks, and our diamond spots are pretty bad if LHO has 5+. So hard to pass with 67, but I think I am convinced it is right.
  17. I would pass. I think clubs will play better on average, but probably not by a whole trick.
  18. When RHO bids on in the face of this announced gigantic misfit what does that tell you? Ok, if it is the club, I hear you, but if you were playing against an expert?
  19. I would double the first round (only because I am passed hand), but think pass then double or pass then pass are both fine.
  20. I would bid 4♣, partner's pass is a gigantic warning sign. I doubt he has more than 3 minor cards, likely even fewer. It is posible that with my two aces I should be thinking about defending, but RHO heard the pass too and still bid 3♥, so I will bid on.
  21. When we have 29 HCP and RHO opened, it seems pretty likely he has KQ(xx) of trumps.
