smerriman , tx for your reply , I see what u mean. If you go to BBO, click on completed tournaments, you get the full details of traveller, movie. In that event, you came 1 out 1224 for 19.71 BBO points. If you look at the 90%+ scores in the recap sheet, they are nearly all lunatic plays/bids by Robots ( e.g. 6HX cold on 19hcp after looney robot X , 4CX-3 vul/non-vul robot sacrifice over 3N etc ). Assume they do the same at every table, so maybe the huge advantage for any strong player is that he always "human declares" , and will expect a top 5% most times. In that event, even rank #50 is getting nearly 10 BBO points. Agree , BBO points are totally meaningless , a pity they cannot come up with some way to make a realistic measure of player rankings.

So that means you could play say 10 day-longs ( 12 bds ) a day and once you get used to the vagaries of the robots , you will likely beat a large percentage of players of the same skill, but who are just occasional players. You will expect to be in the top 5% every time, assuming that you are also a genuinely strong player. That might give you 30/40 BBO points on a good day ?? playing with the robots. Is that the explanation for daily BBO points of 30+ Playing 10 ACBL events against human opponents ( e.g. speedball ), a day , if you won every single one , you might only get 25 points. And the opposition on speedball ,can include some quite promising players like Meckstroth or Mahmood

How are BBO points calculated. If I look at the daily best performers , I see players with 38+ points in a single day. On ACBL Speedball , I've got 2.4 points for first position in 338 players. It's not that easy to get 1/338 in an ACBL event , so how are players getting 38+ points in a single day ?

Surely the simplest solution is to just move the Main Club to the Competitive Server and charge it just like the Robots , 1$ ( or more ) a week to host a table. That will keep the casual crawlers out, and still the nearly-free ethos of BBO . The Main Club IS competitive, it always has been, you will see "real" not "BBO" WORLD-CLASS players there. And yet we have Solitaire and BridgeMaster and Bidding Practise in the Competitive section ,bizarre !!

Mr ( or Madam secretary ) can I add a few more little niggles 1) The UNDO button , that should be right up on the table beside the claim button, impossible now to hit an immediate, obvious misclick. 2) Why only list events with a 2-hour window. In the past ( and I must reveal myself now as PC version user ) , would commonly book Speedball , many hours ahead 3) The bidding panel N S E W why not put the names in , even if it truncates to 4 characters. How many times do I have to do a double-take , who bid what ? 4) The claim button , instead of "I claim 7 of 9" , making it quite clear that 2 are conceded, you get "I claim 7" and now you have to carefully do some math. 5) Please put BBO "time" on the window bar. Instead of trying to figure out if 2PM Speedball is my local 7 or 8 , I will know it is in 40 minutes time Do you have the ear of BBO ,if you add these to your wishlist

Admin says only 10% of members are on older versions . Main Club Bridge was always the heart & soul of BBO , you played a while , kibbed a while , played some Speedball , teams , paid a lot of BBO$ Now you cannot do that without doing somersaults. Look at the table hosts, I took a quick sample of 10 table hosts , every one of them was in the "main" server , only way they can do that is by starting table from the Flash version ?? So clearly the members who supported BBO over all these years , still prefer the old way. Yes BBO , please upgrade the hardware , but get it done very quickly, put a date on the integration stay safe

It is even more bizarre !! This server "switch" only happens on the HTML version (5.6). All'newbies' are automatically on this version Most 'oldies', say members for over a year, are on the Flash Version ( which, rightly so, will be retired at end of 2020 ) , or even the Windows version. So, if a "newbie" logs in and decides to maybe play in the Relaxed Club ( or the Main club) , then they are switched to the Casual server. So now they cannot see their 'oldie' , experienced BBO members, and the endless confusion begins. The 'oldies' are still on the Flash version. And of course they don't have a clue what is the difference between HTML5 and Flash, and of course they don't know if they are on version 4.x or 5.x ( BBO is the only software in the world that does not tell you what version number you are using ) . Hence more confusion , 'oldie' tells 'newbie' friend you are not logged on , no I am , yes , you are not !! Brilliant. The Main Bridge Club has been the " heart & soul " of BBO for the 15 years that I have been a member. You log in , see what friends are on-line, some maybe are kibbing a team match, invite a table. Now if you start a table, you can end up having to make a mobile call to ask them to switch. And if they are on Flash version, well , they cannot move to the Casual server anyhow !! , totally bizarre !! So now exit your table and ask them to set up a table , or make another mobile call !! For now, the 'oldies' do not seem to be screaming at this crazy change, but that is because they are mostly still on the Flash version. So if they start a table , they can see all their friends , many of whom might be e.g. kibbing a JEC match, ( except 1 or 2 who might be on 5.6 on the casual server ), and invite as before. Everything looks fine :) , they are not screaming at BBO BBO , we do understand that servers need to be upgraded , but this is NOT THE WAY TO DO IT . Invest in hardware, test and prepare, and THEN do a clean switch over with minimal down-time Stay safe all !!

Cannot set up table with People (Friends)...?
westwind3 replied to Dinarius's topic in General BBO Discussion
We understand that servers must be upgraded, but " real soon now " does not sound very encouraging. At the very minimum , it must be simple to put the Main Bridge Club on the " Main Server " , leave Solitaire, Practise etc on the old box. If,as we frequently do , set up a team game for 8 , that is no more / or less " casual" than setting up a table for 4. BBO PLEASE PLEASE reply on this , all of us here have spent probably 1000+ BBO$ on Speedball etc , that kept BBO alive before it found the Corona-Virus Gold-mine -
Cannot set up table with People (Friends)...?

This is an appalling change!!! The Main Bridge Club is now totally unusable !! The Main Bridge Club has for years ( in my case 15 ) been the Main playing area, you play for a while with maybe a new partner, you watch the lobby for your friends, and then maybe arrange a table with them. Now if your friends are just 'idle' on-line or maybe kibbing a match, you can no longer see them. We frequently play teams, 8 players agree to be on-line at a certain time, quite often one might kibb a 'star' player in the Main club while waiting. Now the team match will collapse, even though all players are on-line. That is two of the most fundamental BBO actions totally destroyed !! I should also point out that I , and thousands of others, have been money-paying members, probably in the 1000's of BBO$ over the years, our voice should be heard . BBO , PLEASE CHANGE THIS , or move the Main Bridge Club to what you now seem to call your " Main" server.
