Maybe that is a US thing? I don't know of many who don't use it after intervention. To be fair to hog, he doesn't explicitly claim that most Australians play inverted minors in competition, he could have been talking about his circle of peers at his local club (maybe in Australia, maybe in Laos) - then his mention of the US was a distraction that made his claim appear larger than he intended. I would be very surprised if there were any country in which most players play inverted minors in competition.

Sorry, I didn't even for a moment consider opening 2♥ with a 12 count and 3HCP in the majors. Also I gave no consideration to the rule of 20 or the other room. Anyway I would win the ♦K and play a club at trick 2.

South passes, West bids 4♠, North doubles for takeout and South bids 5♦. Yes, but if your courses teach you that overcalling 2♦ vulnerable on the South hand is reasonable then you may have been wasting your money, sorry.

If Artk78 is just talking about voting to cancel out a malicious Lurpoa downvote I don't think anyone could object, it seems to me that is entirely reasonable in such extreme cases as the Lurpoa attacks. On the other hand, if he is talking about following the jonottawa/hotshot strategy of voting to cancel out normal votes just because he personally wouldn't have made that vote, I agree with Roger that this just seems pretty egotistical, 'nobody is allowed to vote on a post unless I myself approve' ... whatever. Anyway at the end of the day this upvoting and downvoting is not such a big deal, I do think however that if the plan for votes was to advertise posts with high votes in BBO that this will not work. It doesn't happen that posts with excellent bridge content get many upvotes, the funny posts or posts making a non-bridge point people agree with seem to get the most votes.

I would pass, and I seem to play this double as much more takeout oriented than many posters.

1) 3♦ overcall seems obvious. Singleton heart, w/r, 6 card suit to the AK and an opening hand, passing 2♥ strikes me as bizarre, what is this about a gun to our head? I would never pass partner's takeout double with this hand, pass deserves to score -990. If I accidentally pulled out the pass card without noticing and found myself on lead to 4♥X I would lead a top diamond instead of the ♠K.

I would just lead a heart. Partner has made a penalty double with a diamond stack, don't see what this has to do with Lightner doubles - partner isn't saying 'we can beat this 3NT only if you lead your worst suit!' BTW, what does it mean when there is a lead poll and OP votes in his own poll?

Is there a reason for restricting some searches (e.g. Find My Content) to the most recent 12 months? This is another of the ways searching is more difficult than it used to be before the upgrade.

I would expect 2♦ to show long diamonds and no values, so I would pass 2♦. Sometimes 5♦ might make, but we have no sensible way of finding out when. We could raise to 3♦ but that won't really tell partner when he should bid on. I wouldn't bid 2♠ because partner will usually pass that even with spade shortage. Someone suggested that partner will pull the double to 2♦ with as many as 6 points, I don't agree with that.

How a passed hand 11 count with 4 card support and KJx in the overcalled suit is weak rather than invitational is completely beyond me, constantly posting to say it is a close choice does not make it so. In addition a 3rd seat opener may choose to pass the invitational 2♦ raise, so making a weak raise to 3♦ to stay low makes no sense. OP deserves some credit for confessing that South's hand is within the expected range. Agree with blatant MI and giving a weighted mix of 3♦ making and not making. Someone with more knowledge of the laws than me will know if the non-offending side is allowed to lead a heart all the time, for a 100% weighting for 3♦ down 1. On a heart lead it is far from clear to *cough* double hook the diamonds - personally I would just play them from the top.

No, even if 3NT wasn't cold hopefully nobody would call a massive underbid like 3♦ a good bid. I would just rebid 3NT. If the choice were between opening 2♣ and bidding 1♦ then 3♦ I would open 2♣ and I don't think it is close.

Was this the problem for West? Seems like he decided that having shown 'club support in a non-minimum hand' he could now relax and forget that he wants to be in slam opposite East's jump shift.

Seems that the confusing question could be restated as "Opponents are known to be either 3424 opposite 5413 or 3325 opposite 5512. Does RHO have a singleton club?"
