  1. It's a reverse, this seems far more useful to me than weak with no rebid, and I am one of those people who almost always opens 1♣ with a 4-5 minimum. You can use it to show two different hands (by the way I just realized the actual auction is doubling hearts, but the below applies to 1♣ - (1♠) - x auctions): 1) 4♦, 5♣, minimum. But it is not clear that with this hand bidding 2♦ is best anyway, I can rebid 1N, 2♣, or 2♥ most of the time without feeling terrible about distorting my hand. I agree that I definitely want to bid 2♦ on a hand like xx Kx KQJx Axxxx, but that's the kind of hand I'm giving up in order to show... 2) a real reverse, which I have no other way of showing. 3♦ is not only a misdescription on most reverse hands, but it is also less effective, since it takes us all the way to the 3-level. Overloading the 2M cuebid with yet another hand seems like a terrible idea to me, and various levels of NT are also a completely unsatisfactory fix.
  2. 3♣, this is less of a question of the stopper, and more just that this hand isn't good.
  3. Your partner had an obvious 4♠ bid.
  4. I guess I am the only one who thinks it's close! I would bid 2♠.
  5. Warren, why didn't RHO play back another diamond?
  6. Even if I knew partner had a high spade honor, I would bid 6♥.
  7. I would think about the frequency of these things happening versus the frequency of just missing 4♥ when it's cold or failing to put enough pressure on the opponents.
  8. I dislike what he plays over 4♣/4♦, you can play something more useful. Since it is actually easier for opener to describe his hand after this kind of start, I like: cheapest = middling hand for slam 4N = bad hand for slam and everything else shows a slam positive hand and shows the number of keycards, so cheapest+1 = 4 keycards, cheapest+2 = 3 keycards, etc. (skipping 4N if necessary). I would be lying if I said I had used this method a lot, though, so your mileage may vary. I like how he uses 4♥ through 4N, I have always bid 45 and 55 with shortness the same way (4♥/4♠) and there are some pretty serious issues with this, so I am happy to see there is a better way to deal with those hands (even though opener will often have to just punt rather than make a slam try).
  9. Matchpoints, White vs Red, Third Seat ♠QJT ♥Kxx ♦98xxx ♣Jx 3♦ - (P) - ? If you make a non-diamond bid, LHO will double and it will be passed back to you.
  10. Why is this lucky, if partner has 6 clubs I have the BEST HAND EVER AND EXPECT THIS TO MAKE WAY MORE THAN 50% OF THE TIME SEE ABOVE LOL LOL at you for LOLing for the wrong reason. If partner really does have clubs then he is running because he is weak, and they will usually set up their tricks before we set up ours. You should LOL at passing because 3♣ is almost never meant as natural, it's always someone who thought we were playing lebensohl! LOL, yes obviously 3♣ here is lebensohl even though partner forgot, and that is 95% of the reason you should pull. Still disagree that we are usually going down in 3N opposite even a 14-count with 6 clubs. I was LOLing the hog because if you think 3♣ is not lebensohl, then we have an even better reason to bid 3N now.

  12. I think this is the only vulnerability that made the problem interesting, if we are not r/w I would crack without thinking twice.
  13. 1♦-1♥ (2♠) 4♠-5♣ 5♦-5♥ 6♥ edited for clarification?!
  14. If the second spade honor gets ruffed, you will be short a trick. Fluffy, I am not sure why cashing the ♦A later is much better, if it gets ruffed you will similarly be held to 9 tricks.
  15. Wow, you really trust your opponents!
  16. Why does east know that west has 5 clubs and 3+♦?
  17. 3♦ splinter. I think nothing will get you to 7♣, though.
  18. [hv=d=s&v=b&n=skq64hak72dct6532&s=sah9643dajt9742c7]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1♦ - (2♣) - Dbl - (P) 2♥ - (P) - 4♥ - AP LHO leads the ♣Q and RHO plays the ♣9 (UDCA). ' LHO shifts to the ♥8, and you win in dummy, RHO playing the ♥5. You play a spade to your ♠A and cash the ♦A and ruff a diamond, LHO discarding a spade. Over to you.
  19. No, as long as dummy has the ♠K as an entry it will work.
