  1. so if i pass in that situation instead of XXing does that make me WC? Bill
  2. why not make 1♣-1♠-2♦ show the weaker hand? Bill
  3. actually it might not work out too bad, at least you won't hear: "but pd aren't we playing stolen bid X's?" Bill
  4. I think 4♠ is right, even if you change the ♠AKQ to xxx. Bill
  5. Gib seems to not know his system too well: here is how he bid this hand[hv=d=e&v=n&s=sqh954dqt874ckq86]133|100|Scoring: IMP P-P-P-1NT P-2♠-P-2NT P-3♥[/hv] on the system notes, he should be bidding 3♠ to show a singleton ♠. I wonder why that happened. You can look at the hand on bridgebase. It is the 8th hand I played on April 20th. Bill (bill1157)
  6. Why doesn't North just bid 2♠'s at his 2nd turn? Bill
  7. the ♦ is is the only right answer here. Bill
  8. And I'm guessing he is a very good player? Just goes to show how many different views people may have on a hand and its possibilities. I'm sticking with 3♦. Bill
  9. No club fit; ♠Ax is a nightmare for nt unless pd has ♠stoppers also. Are you so sure you want to be in game? No. so a non-forcing invitational 3♦ is fine. Bill
  10. for beginner-intermediate or an infrequent partnership (i.e. not overly complicated) I think 3♦ is the best, most practical bid. Bill
  11. i guess the trick is to cross to ♦K trick 2 then ruff a club. then ♦ then ruff another club. cash ♥back to dummy with ♠ and play top hearts Bill
  12. I think ♣K is finesseable and east has ♠ singleton. It just looks wrong for east to bid game with Kxx.AJxx.xxxx.xxx since he would be pushing NS into a making 4♠. It looks more likely for east to have: x.AJxx.xxxx.Kxx. Bill
  13. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=saq62haq7d73cak32&e=sk8hkt953dt5cq987]266|200|Scoring: MP N 1♣-P-1♠-P 4♠-PPP lead 6♥[/hv] declarer wins ♥A then plays ♣A;♣K; ruffs a club and runs the ♠J. you are in with the ♠K what now? I think there is a strong inference here that declarer doesnt have the ♦A. Agree or disagree? Bill
  14. Is there a robot cc somewhere or a description of their bidding system? I notice they seem to play minor suit stayman etc. thanks, Bill
  15. no, i just seem to have different opinions from the majority.
  16. I think what people are trying to say is that they have some agreement in this situation that X by North is for takeout. Thats fine, but in any standard system the X is not takeout. North has made an undisciplined weak 2 with a second suit. I submit that even Al Roth would bid 5♣ over 4♠. You can't bid 5♣ over pds X btw. Bill
  17. no one is to blame, just nobody took an agressive view of the hand. Bill
  18. pd knows you have 5♣'s and a ♠ void?
  19. I don't know. That strikes me as a bad treatment. One of many in modern American bidding... If pd can crunch 4♠ in his own, then he can do so without my expressing doubts. Bill
  20. Can South open 1♣ because he has such a shapely hand? Bill
  21. Yes, but at this level X isn't really for takeout... Bill
  22. Stick to your guns and keep doubling! btw are u available for some money bridge? Bill
