I currently play a system where 1C shows at least 5-5 or 6-4 in two suits and at least 15 HCP (33+ Zar points). On the auction, 1C-1S can you play the following: 1C-1S-? X Shows tolerance for all three other suits 1N Natural 2C Either Diamonds(5+) or tolerance (3+) for H&C, not D 2D Either Hearts or tolerance for C&D, not H 2H Either Clubs or tolerance for D&H, not C 1) In GCC? 2) In Midchart? If I cannot play suggested method, any suggestions of a legal method to play in 1) GCC? 2) Midchart? Thanks everyone

The biggest criteria I can see are how big are you clubs? How good are your hearts? Heart Suit HTx or H9x, is great for ruffing support. while 432 would be bad. Trump lead or switch will kill it lots of times. Club Suit 8765 isn't much of a suit, but KQJx is. Where you decide to cross the line may be up to partner and you. If you hold a decent hand, you may want to bid clubs first, so you can get the nice auction of 1D-1H-2C-2D-2H which would be an excellent hand in a context of precision bidding. If he passes 2C, you are probably ok.

Preempt by opponents
ASkolnick replied to ArcLight's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I would bid 2♠ but I understand pass. 3H is a bad heart holding, if a) partner holds 3H  partner holds 2H, it depends on his spade spots since he is over the hand with shortness. c) partner holds 1H, may be too late. I don't think you will get buried. -
From what I can tell, she laid down her entire hand of 3 cards and said "Pulling trump" and ruffing a club. If she has more than 3 cards in her hand, it is a much dicier situation. Play ceases as soon as a claim is made, so the order would not matter. So what she laid down should not be relevant. If she claims she is ruffing a club, how can it be logical that she would remove the trump since theoretically, a ruff couldn't happen. However, if there were still two trump out, then I would have to rule against her since the order of the stated claim does matter.

I'll bid 6♠, why not? But as stated, I don't think I should worry too much about the correct bidding of 7-6 hands.

thanks a lot, opps!

I pass. I am not going to guess which 4-3 fit to play in or get to 5C. I have the QD which is a horrible card for offense and my partner shows an opening hand. Sometimes I go -530, but I will bet you I will go +300 often enough to make this right. -
The problem with playing 2♣ any invitational is it is not legal in the GCC. I believe you can play it mid-chart, but I am not sure. If not, I would have used that for my bids. It is true, there are certain hands you get screwed, but some bids are also "blocking" bids, since your opponent has the cards. With your 5 count, you don't always have to improve the contract. Looking at the system I play. My auctions were almost the same except using 1N forcing, instead of 2♣ I agree my 4-5's may be distored a bit, since most of the time when I bid the minor it rates to be longer than the major, but one can look at the hand and say Axxxx,J,Kxx,KQT9 and figure that bidding 1S-1N-2C is OK. Only issues: Bd 1: I am screwed. I can live with occasional casualties. Bd 15: Probably overbid to 3N. Depends if he chooses to bid 2C NF const-invite or 1N forcing. Maybe get out in 2N if he decides not to show clubd with no fit.

OK. I am showing a good 1/4. I have 1.5 tricks opposite my partner (really I should only have 1). I think 1H will cash and 4 trumps. I can get a tap going immediately and hold 4 trumps. Unless he has a huge two suiter with diamonds. I don't see his tricks anywhere. I keep punching hearts until the cows come home. Will it make some of the time? Sure. But I think you will get 300 much more than not and it may be a double game swing with your hand if you do not drop the hammer.

Along the lines of NT forcing, and this is General Chart legal: We play a version using a ZARS count, with canape openers and major suits are between 4-5 in length. 1) a NT is forcing and can be one of 3 hands a) GF with new suit  Invitational is suit is raised c) Drop dead as normal. 2) 2 over 1 is constructive (7-10) and non-forcing. So auctions, 1S-1N-2C-2D (GF) 1S-1N-2C-2S (Inv) 1S-1N-2D-P (To play) But since we have quite limited openings to both value and shape, we can play this. This has been verified as GCC legal with Sol Weinstein. You do lose out on those 5-7 count 6 card hands, but lifes rough. As for what relays are legal, I do not know.

I bid 3♥, but we tend to open preempts much more constructively then most people. As for the hand given, great. You have a perfect fitting hand (nothing wasted in clubs, no soft values anywhere, no spade values) and it is at best on a finesse. Yay! There are some advantages to preempting aggressively, but partner can just as easily hold Kx, Qx, QJX of spades or some KQJx of clubs where 4H has no play, but no one is making anything. But, if partner chooses to bid 4H with this hand, it would not be the end of the world.

Transfer responses to weak NT - x - p
ASkolnick replied to Vilgan's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
I play the "people's" system over a weak nt overcall, and I think it is a good system, but you need to take it all the way through. While I agree over 1N-X-P, it probably is irrelevant of what you play (2C, xfers) since with good hands you rate to pass, its the auction 1N-X-2y- that is more important. Most people's 1N-X runouts are similar to overcalls of strong NT(capaletti, DONT, whatever), so the important part is playing your version of lebensohl, negative doubles over these calls, not over 1N-x-P. Even though I play systems on, I would not look for a fit and 2C is scrambling. -
Mikeh, with KQTxx opposite your parnter's known stiff (at best), you want to play 2S. Spades showed 4, xx showed 3, only 1 left.

Precision: Open Light Style (Zars Count): Open KS: Pass 2-1: Pass But I don't think this is really a right or wrong answer.

Bid the cold slam
ASkolnick replied to manudude03's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Your partner is a distributional 6-4 and you hold all the aces, you take a bid besides 3N. With your cards, worst case is he has 1 minor suit loser and possibly 1 major suit loser and that is if you opened with complete drech. -
I don't remember what I was told, but I thought that Einstein was not quite a believer in organized religion, but he did believe in the "spirituality" aspect. Essentially, faith is an important part of whatever you are doing. Although I am Jewish, the way I see it is all religions are the same. If people are wired differently, and God is all powerful and all knowing, wouldn't he show him/herself to different people in different ways? For the most part (not extremists), most religions have the same basic theme (be nice to each other and you will have salvation) so there really should be much more tolerance even if the rituals are different.

3C Yes, 2N no. If your tricks aren't coming from clubs, you don't have enough. I don't believe 2N is a "power" raise to clubs, if anything it denies strength in clubs.
-
We play it two ways: NV: Suggests a save in that suit. Vul: Lead Directing.
-
What's the problem? Sometimes game goes down and the others can't make.
-
Can someone explain to me how you are allowed to assume your partner forgot system. Isn't that a violation in system or an implicit agreement in itself? Because you are then not following agreement.
-
I like 2N since it is what you have. Sure it is not the best 11 count, but you have soft values and the key to me is the fact you have the Ten of spades. Good chance this gives you a 2nd stopper in spades, but gives you nothing in a heart contract. I could live with 1N, but your QJX should still produce tricks and you will have time with your 2nd stopper.
-
1. Your double is a penalty double, not responsive. What would I do with my 10 count and KQTx of clubs, you pass first, and dbl or you could have been sitting for partner's reopening double. So I could not double here responsive. I would choose to bid 2S. So what if I am in a 4-3 fit? 2. Now that I have buried myself with an auction that I don't have. I will bid 4♥ since I am wrong.

I play something very similar to Free against any split range club. 1C-x Str hand 1D Hearts Constructive 1H Spades Constructive 1S Clubs Constructive 1N and Up start Suction Hands. (1N 2 untouching) 2C (D Constructive or H&S) Over 1C-x-P- 1D 4 hearts (any strength) 1H 4 spades (any strength) 1S Relay to 1NT With Clubs, you can pass the double. 1N 5 card Diamonds 2C 6 Card Diamonds 2D 5+ Hearts (any strength) 2H 5+ Spades (any strength)

Simulators: One of my favorite simulators is the one design by Hans Van Steveren since it becomes more open source. Any GUI usually has limitations to the constraints that you can use. But this builds a file where you can create your own classes, define shapes (not just number of cards), and add cards to particular opponents. By having the flexibility, you will be able to draw the same kind of conclusions. As for single dummy versus double dummy, I think that there will be only a slight difference in the two since both the defense on the offense always get it right. For the most part, I look at Deep Finesse on bridge hands, and the number of tricks usually seems reasonable.
-
Honestly, it would depend on the rest of my hand. In general, when you lead low, it implies either A) an honor or :) a desire for that suit to be returned. A better example would be from xxxxx, which would you lead? Probably, low if I have a ton of entries, 2nd highest if not.

The separation of "church and state" is one of the strangest ones in the United States. Everyone complains that they need to be separated, but: 1) In a court, you swear on a bible. 2) On your money, it says "In God we trust". Or my favorite line about that is "In God we Trust, all others pay cash". So as much as we claim to separate the two, they clearly are still somewhat intertwined.
