  1. It might not be passed, but it will get you a director call. it was a typo...
  2. [hv=d=s&v=b&n=sj10875hj10763d75c9&w=sq4hq94dj92ckq1052&e=sa963h852dq8643c8&s=sk2hakdak10caj7643]399|300|Scoring: IMP 2C (Dbl) Rdbl PPP[/hv]
  3. 2H instead of 3D seems crystal clear to me. 2H will NOT be passed in case that was your worry.
  4. A good rule of thumb, for now, would be that Michaels is on only directly over their one-level opening bid. After the opponents have bid two suits, NT or Dbl will show the unbids and everything else (including what looks like a 'cuebid' of one of their suits) is a natural overcall in that suit. In the given auction, it cannot be Michaels when there is takeout Dbl and 2NT available to show two suiters that cannot stand to Dbl (fear that partner leaves it in).
  5. Partner apparently has a void and a side trick/ace. If his void is in hearts, he would not double because the likely lead is heart; he ruffs trick 1 and cashes the ace trick 2 (or waits to collect the side trick later) That is why I think his void is in diamonds. Besides, "my" Lightner "rules" say dummy's first side suit; if none, declarer's first side suit; if none, then find the right lead that partner wants. Never lead trump or our suit.
  6. BWS says 4th suit or 2NT, whichever is cheaper to bid, is weakness showing. That was not used so 3C is forcing. However, there are other methods that are equally "expert" so I would not Pass 3C in the given auction if I had not discussed what our methods are after opener reverses.
  7. I bid 4S the first time. No decisions to make later. Now it looks like (based on bidding) that both sides have a doublefit which means more tricks in either direction than without the doublefits. Tough choice but I Pass, and regret that I didn't bid 4S the round before.
  8. For a play problem, show all spots.
  9. It is a takeout double repeated. I will Pass because the likelihood we make 5D is slim to nil while the likelihood that 4HX goes down is better. If it makes, we get minus 790 instead of minus 800 (or more).
  10. I am a little puzzled. In your methods, partner did not have enough strength to make a takeout double on the one-level and now he shows enough strength to make a takeout double three levels higher. What kind of hand does he have, can anyone construct a plausible hand under these conditions and now knowing he has probable void in hearts.
  11. Your given hand K10xxx-v-Q108xxx-xx is not at all like the hand given in the Hardy example you quote and the auction is different as well. - spades are five cards - diamonds are just long, not good - opener rebid 2C, not 1NT Also 1H-1S-2C opener shows a 4-card club suit (not three) WITH a reason not to rebid 1NT.
  12. UDCA any card except the 9 is fine because partner has KQJ for the lead so if he continues small, it would be just fine. If I am playing with an unknown, I'll go for the clear 10. The nine accomplishes nothing and as a signal it is vague, even misleading when it denies 109x.
  13. 4S, although it may go down:(
  14. 2H and 2S are both natural suits. This is also part of SAYC but of course that has little bearing on the question... But there are at least two ways, Dbl and 2NT, to show the unbid suits (third way if you play Sandwich NT) so we don't need a third or a fourth way to show unbid suits. 2NT is unusual.
  15. It does not matter very much what agreements you have because there are a few ways of dealing with the Dbl (showing clubs) but make agreements with partner, and also include in them what opener's next actions show opposite the agreed actions by responder, after they have doubled. While you are at it, also agree what you each will do after they overcall in various ways.
  16. Unusual. Strong hand should Pass if balanced or near balanced. His partner has virtually nothing and attempting to play 2NT or something on the 3-level will end in minus score, I would think 100% of the time. Even without agreements, Unusual is the only thing that makes sense (to me, that is), whether it is for the minors or some other "two places to play".
  17. I don't think you will find many people who think 3C in this auctiuon is weak.
  18. This poll is not meaningful. When 3D is a non-forcing game try in your methods, then opener could a) pass 3D :P bid 3H c) bid 4H. After you have INVITED with 3D, you need to respect the signoff in partscore. If you don't respect it then your 3D was a misbid (I think it was, a misbid)
  19. What are flash logins or silverlight logins. None of this affects me but - someone please enlighten me.
  20. 6NT with this hand is a leap into unknown waters and could easily end up sadly. Resulters of course say it is right... :)
  21. Shows more spades than hearts. Since opener already denied 4 spades last round, he has three spades - with a stopper I would assume - and two or fewer hearts. I have not discussed in my partnerships what 2S means and I don't know what the best meaning would be, but using my logic (faulty perhaps?) this is what it must be since nothing else makes sense, IMO.
  22. I Dbl on first and it is not close. I Pass on second and this is almost painful, as it alwys is with this sort of hand in this auction. If my hearts resembled a "suit", I might lie and Dbl anyway, but i think Pass is best even then.
  23. Instead of 4C I'd bid 3H. 4C is pessimistic and after that we can't easily play in 4S if that is the place to be. I think even 4H splinter is better than 4C.
