  2. In Seattle we run a long round robin, and this is in the conditions of contest: Forfeits: Teams are expected to play all of their matches, even if they are out of contention. That said, a forfeited match is scored as follows: The offending team receives 0 VPs and is removed from playoff eligibility. The non-offending team gets the maximum of (a) their average Victory Point total in all of their non-forfeited matches, (b) the average Victory Point total of the opponents of the offending side in all of the offending side's non-forfeited matches, or © 18 Victory Points. However if a team plays fewer than three matches, then any played matches against that team are cancelled. If this results in some teams playing more matches than others, then average VPs in matches played will be used to determine the entrants to the knockout phase. It is recommended that teams schedule matches early in the season to avoid having trouble finding dates in the last few weeks. If the round robin commissioner determines that a team has not made an adequate effort to schedule with another team, a forfeit may be awarded. Teams may not withdraw at the half of a regular season match.
  3. I assume it's there because they wanted to avoid renumbering laws, and thought the old Law 23 was a suitable one to replace.
  4. Apparently it's not going to turn into a discussion at all. :)
  5. If you have access to the laws, read the new Law 23.
  6. Sorry, played a couple of these early in the week and forgot to post: jeffford76/nekthen 4-6 http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:a5c2cd8a.de73.11e6.90ac.0cc47a39aeb4-1484849896&u=jeffford76 jeffford76/xbabarx 4-6 http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:a5c2cd8a.de73.11e6.90ac.0cc47a39aeb4-1484849896&u=jeffford76 jeffford76/dadim 5.5-4.5 http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:4f1b708b.e312.11e6.90ac.0cc47a39aeb4-1485357845&u=jeffford76 I played my boards against zenoo yesterday in a challenge they started, but they haven't finished.
  7. No worries. I enjoyed our push at 4H down 5.

  9. I played three of my challenges today and resent one that was about to expire. I resent to ye17 and phil. Sorry phil for not being online the last couple days when you already played out a set of boards.
  10. I'm down 26 at the halfway point. http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:25776d00.be58.11e6.b596.0cc47a39aeb4-1481319647&u=jeffford76 http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:f0046057.c08a.11e6.b596.0cc47a39aeb4-1481561364&u=jeffford76

  12. Thanks. I was looking at the MyHands page. jeffford76 def. 13. I lost to Mkgnao 47-22. Half of that was a misclick. Ugh. http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:e8894676.bbe9.11e6.b596.0cc47a39aeb4-1481052398&u=jeffford76 I won the other three. gordontd already reported one of them. I can't find links to the other 2. Do you miss your chance if you don't immediately save the link?
  14. You're the third person to ask this in this thread (including me). No response so far...
  15. Is there any plan for giving access to Bridgemaster hands for people who have paid for them in the Windows version?
  16. For what it's worth I had my bridge partner ask her eight year old, and he answered all three problems correctly. These problems aren't dissimilar from ones I've seen him do for homework.
  17. I sent a challenge request to both this morning.
  18. That is what allows it. Is there some reason you think it doesn't apply? It applies in an NABC pair game because it says the chart applies to "All NABC+ events with no upper masterpoint restrictions played at an NABC."
  19. In the USA, under the most commonly played convention chart, X and 2♣ can have any meaning, and there is no requirement to have any written description or defense. Clubs are free to restrict or allow whatever they wish rather than follow this chart, but it's unusual. To be clear, the pair explained what all the possibilities were, I just didn't think it was relevant exactly which hands were included.
  20. Since some people don't like "fake" ruling questions, let me be clear that although this is based on a real situation, the details are not exactly the same as the real hand. A pair at the local club is playing a system where over their opponents' opening 1NT (weak or otherwise) a direct double shows a number of one and two suited hand types, or a traditional penalty double of 1NT. Recently after this double, the advancer holding a 4-count passed, correctly so as their partner held the penalty double and they collected a good score. The opponents wonder to you away from the table if the pair doesn't have a tell when they have the strong version, although they are quick to assure you that it is almost certainly subconscious, not that they are deliberately cheating. What would be your steps as a director? Assuming that one of them is to attempt to ascertain whether this is a pattern, you've never been called about this before, so you don't know how often pass happens or how often they get it right or wrong. Asking questions gives not particularly useful answers like "I don't remember the last time it came up." and "It just seemed like since I only had 4 points my partner *must* have the strong hand." Now what?
  21. Would East have covered if there hadn't been a penalty card? Seems reasonable that he might. So how can it possibly be right that West takes away his ability to make the "mistake"?
  22. Clear opener doesn't mean that I will always get a plus score, just that I think it's more likely than not (here especially because of holding both majors). Showing that if the hands were different it wouldn't have worked isn't really an argument. That's true of almost every bid you ever make.
