  1. Whatever you think best of X (pulling spades to clubs), P, and 5C.
  2. I play this method, and I don't agree with this. KQJxxx of diamonds with 1-1 majors is a clear pass. You've interfered with their NT, and you've found a playable spot.
  3. It can't be right to start with 2♦. Partner is likely to pass.
  4. It would suffice for me if the law explicitly required any player to show their hand upon request from another player.
  5. Funny, I almost always accept. Then I'm likely to have a normal auction, as opposed to making my opening and then having LHO do whatever crazy thing they feel like knowing their partner will pass once.
  6. Just north of Seattle, Washington, USA.
  7. Since the person responding to the queen ask doesn't know whether their side has all the keycards when the ask is below five of the trump suit, it is useful to play that jumping to 6 of the trump suit conveys the message "I have a trick source - bid seven if we have all the keycards", and to use 5NT as showing the queen, but denying any outside king. Over the 5NT bid, there is still room for a third round control ask or some other last train bid to still look for 7 if the asker is still interested.
  8. My (completely uninformed) guess is that they are waiting to add support in the software until they finish ACBLScore+, rather than devoting energies on two fronts.
  9. I think it should be that bidding 3♦ now, then running from the next double to 3♥ shows better hearts than spades, and running to 3♦ now, then redoubling shows better spades than hearts. But I'm also sure I'm not breaking this out undiscussed in a Spingold match. If I had discussed it I'd definitely run.
  10. trevahound and I would like to play this one.
  11. My experience is that the national Fast Pairs is the one event where this is fairly common.
  12. I thought it was obvious with 3 to bid the one you didn't have. Surely partner has that one and will work it out, right?
  13. I will also be there, mostly playing the same schedule as Chris.
  14. I don't think so. 1m - 1S - 2m - 3H works well for these.

    Crash

I don't know what parts of California actually have liberal NT defenses. I regularly play in Oregon, where they have the same rules, and flyers contain language like this (taken from the upcoming Seaside Regional), "Mid-chart Conventions: Allowed in all stand alone Flight A/AX events and top bracket of Knockout Teams (excluding Compact KOs). Midchart defenses to the opponents’ 1NT are allowed in all events."
  16. I did tell everyone you would catch on eventually.

    Crash

I know it's pedantic, but "GCC-legal" means the same thing in California. They run events under a rule set that is slightly different than the GCC.
  18. It's on the second page, item 132-02.
  19. The agenda for the Atlanta ACBL Board of Directors meeting is available here. One proposal is to make "Purposefully, regularly and repeatedly making unusual bids in an effort to prevent a partner from declaring hands" a disciplinary offense punishable by up to a 1-year suspension and 50% reduction in masterpoints. Is hand hogging even against the laws of bridge?
  20. Out of curiosity, what would 4♥ instead of 3♥ have been?
  21. I'm not sure why you think anyone is confused about this. I meant that it is not common to play an artificial defense against players who play a short club that it is legal to play an artificial defense to.
  22. One trick. Generally in a trump contract it is not a normal line of play to play off all trump first. It would be different if declarer had only one trump because then "checking for lurkers" is normal.
  23. Although legal, it's very unusual to play a different defense to a short club instead of treating it as natural. I've never seen "we always ask" written on a card, but it certainly would be ok to put it there if you're worried about a ruling.
  24. I don't think this is right. I think if you play different defenses you should always ask rather than give partner UI. I've never seen any ACBL materials suggesting otherwise.
