My partner (sohcahtoa) got this right at the table to win 10 imps. We only won this match by 5, so you better make it! Play goes as follows (you can agree or disagree with it so far if you want): LHO leads ♦ A and another ♦. RHO follows to the first diamond and pitches the ♠K at trick 2. You win in dummy and lead a club to the J and Q, and LHO leads his last diamond, RHO pitching a middle-ish spade spot. After winning in dummy again you lead another club and the ♣K pops up. Go from here. (yes, clubs are 4=2)
  2. [hv=pc=n&s=saj32hqt82d2caqj4&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=1c(Polish)1hp2c(Limit+)4s5cd(Shows%20something%20useful)5h5sdp]133|200[/hv] LHO is Balicki, RHO is Zmudzinski, 6th match in day 1 of Open Swiss. See poll for questions, please elaborate and explain. Assume that the choices given in the polls are the only systemic calls available. Thanks! Edit: Make sure you check alerts. LHO's opening was Polish.
  3. Oh BBF, this is the reason I can never quit you
  4. ... but when I do, I drink Dos Equis. Or at least that's what I wanted to do after this hand. Enjoy
  5. Passing either of these hands is insane. I guess I'd at least give thought to not opening the 1st in 4th seat though.
  6. I like a systemic low club. I feel like every time I don't lead from a high honor against this auction I lead into AKQ in dummy opposite declarer's stiff or void, and we have the heart entry to push a diamond through later. Would rather lead ♦J than a heart or the club K.
  7. 4♥ should show real clubs and a doubleton heart since with 3=2=4=4 we'd probably try 3NT regardless. And we'd also bid 3N with some 3=2=3=5 hands with good diamonds. I think that makes 4♥ a pretty clear bid. Partner still has a chance to bid on with massive extras, and we'll have already shown our hand so he can make a good decision that way.
  8. Pass. I have no agreement with any partner as to what 4♥ would be here. 2 or 3 ♥ wouldn't show something close to this hand.
  9. Bouncing off this play problem from CSGibson: http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/58255-play-6n/page__pid__702144#entry702144 If you have a suit like the following: [hv=pc=n&s=shdcakqt7&n=shdc6]133|200[/hv] and you need to play for 5 winners or 4 winners with E having Jxxxx or longer (for a potential squeeze or duck, etc) is it fair to input into SuitPlay that West has 4 vacant places and that East has 7 vacant spaces and then add up the appropriate percentages yourself? (You add them yourself if, as in this problem, you can't afford to lose a trick which the "take 4 tricks percentage" takes into account. There's no way to program that into SuitPlay, is there?) Edit: Is all I've done eliminate the lies that will fail irregardless?
  10. Isn't it better to finesse than drop in clubs, especially if we find W has long diamonds? This'll also set up a double squeeze if E has J 5th.
  11. Forcing Edit: Also promises real heart support
  12. The only lead I'd consider besides a club is a diamond but even that is bleh. I would lead the systemic low club, not the systemic honor.
  13. I think this is trickier bidding than is let on, don't think it's at all obvious to get to 5♣. I can't imagine starting any other way than the following (or an equivalent auction) 1♣-1♥ 1♠-2♥ and then how does N evaluate his hand? I think 3♣ as the low road is acceptable if you're terrified of the misfit, 4♣ is reasonable based on playing strength so long as it doesn't promise hearts, and 3♦ as a punt might be a good way to try to reach 3NT by S. Make S's hand K of hearts and KQT of diamonds and he'd bid the same way. 3NT isn't even hopeless on this layout and will often score +430/630 on a diamond lead (though it's obviously down at least 2 when wrong)
  14. [hv=pc=n&s=st32hqt32djcaqt32&n=sakq54ha54daq2ck4]200|300[/hv] W/W IMPs, but comments on format/strength of field welcome
  15. Yeah a spade, at least they're more likely to incorrectly put up an honor from dummy on this auction
  16. I thought it was close, but I bid 4♥.
  17. 2NT-4♦ 4♥-4NT 5♥-6♥ 6NT-P 6NT should be obvious because the bidding either indicates we have all the key cards but no heart Q so hearts can be set up for one loser, or we're off a key but hearts have a good chance to run. I think the S hand is good enough to just keycard opposite a big balanced hand, the 6 nearly solid hearts are huge. No offense, but I don't find this to be an interesting bridge hand, it's rather typical, sorry :P The only way I'd find this more interesting is if you wanted to make an argument that the N hand is too good for 2NT, which is fair.
  18. Asking relay -> 4♣ -> 5♣ looks right. If partner has a min we're probably 50% at best to make 5♣. Even with a max partner doesn't necessarily have a bullet. Then again with 3 aces the opponents don't always figure out to cash them. No one is mentioning 3NT? That's too bad. I was looking forward to receiving a diamond lead and then chuckling when they make a club switch through dummy's void at trick 2.
  19. I would have the same auction as aguahombre except jump to 6NT. I like gnasher's line. I think it would be a fun play from RHO to duck the first heart with (deleted hand including QJxx of hearts) if declarer "knows" we'd play the J from JTxx Edit: Or some hand like that. The hand isn't exactly right but I feel like there's basically gotta be some hands where ducking a heart makes declarer decide what to do in diamonds before he tests clubs. Further edit: Full hand was gibberish, ignore specifics please, wondering what would happen if RHO ducked the first round with QJxx of hearts
  20. See above Mike, presumably OP pitched two hearts from hand rather than ruffing his good diamonds. Agree that trying to cash the heart right away is stupid. Btw the line I thought of was what you gave Mike but it doesn't give us a significant edge over OPs line on the layout, LHO should win the spade, cash his diamond A, and exit with whatever, letting us figure out hearts. Certainly from the get-go it's probably stronger. And I agree with playing LHO for QJx if that's the way the play goes.
  21. Sometimes preempts don't work If my partner doubled them every time he had two tricks, especially at IMPs, I would shoot him. We're w/r! I don't have to have #^$$$# on defense for a 4♠ call here. Wouldn't most people bid 4♠ with KQJ 8th of spades and out here?
