Do you have a cunning plan (corrected)
andy_h replied to Gerben42's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
If our preempts aren't crazy, I go for 4H. If it can be, a gentle 3H. -
I like it when they say "LHO opens 2♠ and this is passed to you" Hmm this is tough. I guess I go with 2NT.
-
Presuming partner has a wk NT, heck no! It's nil vul too!
-
Yes to both.
-
Agree with 1NT. And no, I'm not doubling. Hmm what is 1C (1NT) 2C for the opponents? If LHO has D void why didn't he bid..
-
call me a wuss, but I think I prefer the 3H raise. Qxx spades could be ok or really bad, since 1S opener is on lead and spades could be 5332 around. 4333 shape also puts me off. But given OP says the only options we have are 2S, 2NT and 3D, then I will opt for 3D.
-
I'm going to go for Option B as I prefer that more. Though I wouldn't mind A as well B) Since I'm going for B, after we show our stuff with 6C partner's 6D looks like some sort of last-train, wanting to go further and seeing if we have any more extras. Our 8th heart is big, And partner's 3 aces are going to take care of our 3minor cards, leaving 1 loser left in our hand. If partner had long spades he'd probably bid the grand himself looking at all his entries. I guess the question is if partner has Ax of clubs would he have bid the grand.. I think I'm going to settle for 6H since partner knows what I have for 1-4 at vul. But I can just smell some possible squeeze chances. But what if partner just has an extra king.. Ok, I give, I'm bidding 7H.
-
3H looks like a 6-5 hand, or some sort of 1435 hand that has no D stopper but even with that sort of hands I think I'd tend to bid 2NT anyway since 3H takes a lot of room. 4C sets clubs, 4D-4H-4S are all cues to follow. 4S could be an ace, or stiff king, or maybe even Q(x).
-
I'd invite in all 3 cases too. Nothing is stopping partner from having some intermediates. If partner opened 1D, I would invite and show diamonds whatever my method is (rather than bal invite)
-
If Ish was kidding then I wouldn't have asked :) He was going off at Gosney for pulling 3NT and investigating slam.
-
Good hand, but how good, exactly?
andy_h replied to matmat's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
not a reverse hand, so 2S. -
3D would be IJO for me and 2D would be majors, so I have to go with 1D. But if not, 3D at these colours is perfect. Partner knows we are not insane, I hope.

Thanks. I would move on definitely for sure, and via 4♦ directly or 3♠ then remove 3NT to 4♦ I'm not sure. Would the latter be more strong-hearts orientated? Not too sure at the time if 3♥ over 3♦ is forcing or not. Anyway, it wasn't me who was playing this hand, but the partner is Ishmael. The full deal is: [hv=d=e&v=n&n=s43h853dq94ckjt32&w=s952hak7642da5ca5&e=sa76hdkj8632c9876&s=skqjt8hqjt9dt7cq4]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Now, I know 3rd seat openings can be light etc etc but I heard Ish say something about when at 1st seat favourable, that hand is a clear opening, so he favours 1st seat FAV light openings. For me, I think it's a pass. What's your opinion on this? Just to complete it, the rest of their auction was 1D---(1S)--2H--(p) 3D---(p)---3S---(p) 3NT--(p)---4D---(p) 4S---(p)---4NT--(p) etc then 6D Heard Ish say something about he thought he was obliged to cue 4S even with a minimum hand, since that spade control might've been what partner wants to hear for a slam.

[hv=d=e&v=n&s=s952hak7642da5ca5]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] We are favourable and playing 2/1 with a top player. Our partner, who is dealer opens 1D. RHO overcalls 1S and we bid 2H. Partner bids 3D over this, in which we bid 3S agree? Partner now bids the expected 3NT. So: 1D---(1S)--2H--(p) 3D---(p)---3S---(p) 3NT--(p)---__ How far are you willing to go? Would 4D be your next move?
-
I'd also settle for 2S
-
1) pass 2) 1D at all conditions
-
3c for me.

Overcalling a Multi 2D
andy_h replied to ArtK78's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
2S and 2S. I have an opening hand with decent cards and I want to get in early. How troublesome it will be in both auctions when LHO pre-empts/raises to game in hearts if we had passed. -
I am short in spades, so I dbl, as it's more flexible. I have support for all 3 suits and partner could be trap passing.
-
Do you bid, if so what
andy_h replied to DWM's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Don't mind pass or 3H. I wouldn't take X as penalty as the auction looks like (2D) X (3D) X, where it'll just be responsive for me. -
Is there another splinter available, via 2NT then 4D? If so, I presume it's a stronger sequence? Or maybe partner might not ask what we have after 2NT, so I will bid 4D now. Not 5D EKCB like the others have said.
-
7C.. *shivers* Don't think I would even be brave enough for a 5D preempt. Maybe 4D is enough. East's pass of 7CX was...

Thanks for the inputs. Yeah, I thought spade would be the normal lead, hoping to establish a trick etc I just wasn't too sure if we actually had a chance of defeating it rather than holding it to 12 tricks when it seemed like the hesitation looked like they held most of the cards and maybe partner doesn't have that extra trick we're looking for. But I guess it's a bit hard to read into that anyway, as it could be any random thing. The full deal was: [hv=d=e&v=n&n=sjxxhxxdkjtxcqjxx&w=sxxhajxdaq9xcakxx&e=saqtxhkqt9xxdxcxx&s=skxxxhxxd8xxxctxx]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv]
