  1. wtf is all this meant to mean ? And in what way is the last sentence relevant to the original post? This is like chinese whispers gone mad. nickf sydney
  2. Wayne, that comment is irrelevant to the discussion I was initiating and you know it. nickf sydney
  3. Yes <snip> Um... I was looking for some guidance here, perhaps you can rationalise your response. nickf sydney
  4. Name two sports where the competitors finish the event/ race/ competition facing backwards. Points awarded for style and handwriting. nickf sydney
  5. Well strictly speaking Josh it's not round at all. It probably has about 200 edges and who knows how many corner ....er bits.
  6. The other day I happened to see this comment in someone's profile: It was (more or less): Is (country) the only country where everyone is an Expert? I've deliberately masked the country in question. I thought the comment was deliberately inflammatory and mentioned it to a yellow in passing for his thoughts. I haven't seen this person on line since so I dont know whether he or she was asked to remove it. Is my reaction over the top? nickf sydney
  7. I havent heard that phrase since the last of the Happy Days re-runs were pulled. nickf sydney
  8. I did it. It's been a long time coming but I flushed out all the people from my enemies list. I feel...cleansed. Well....not all of them anyway... you know who you are. nickf sydney
  9. Few of the yellows are more committed to BBO than Cascade and congratulations to him, today qualifying for the New Zealand Open team after a long trials process. nickf sydney
  10. who are they chatting with? certainly not kibs, it's impossible for a kib to talk to a player who is in a tourney... if you mean players talking to players at the same table, banning kibs won't stop that No.. it's when (I think) the tourney hosts leaves tourney chat open. You wouldnt believe the incessant drivel masquerading as humour from players that spews through the chat screen. nickf sydney
  11. Right on sister. If there's one thing that really bugs me during tournies is incessant chatter that the players engage in. nickf sydney
  12. What he said, with bells on. nick sydney
  13. Really ? I wonder who or how they decide who's the number 1 nation of the free world ? If there was a poll to decide this, why wasnt I asked to vote ? Or is it like those golf and tennis rankings that no-one really understands? nickf sydney
  14. I figure it has to be simpler to define a detailed system using a text editor and cutting and pasting a fair bit. I'm trying, howeve, to get my head around the syntax. I guess the alpha numerics before the Description field refer to: - the call - the disposition - the min length - the max length - the possible outcomes ...for example. Here's a line of code I've taken from an off-the-shelf FD file. 601SP2D=YYYYYYY508Two-way reverse Drury. Four card spade suit, 10-12 support points. What does 601 refer to? 1SP2D I guess is the auction what does YYYYYYY and 508 refer to? thanks in advance nickf sydney
  15. Hi, I've met a lot of nice people on online bridge, firstly in OKB and now BBO. Some have even been my guests when they have visited Sydney and I count them among my friends. To date, my 'on-line' judgement has been impeccable (I think). A year or so ago, I began chatting with someone from overseas and we became quite amicable, we had a lot in common and had the odd game. So it came as a real shock recently when i was told this person has been banned from some clubs for allegedly cheating. I've been told there was a large history of hands over a 12 month period that seemed to indicate cheating. A few days prior to becoming aware of the ban, I asked my friend why he/she had not been playing recently in a BBO club I frequent. He/ She asked me not to ask why and I respected his/her wish, naively assuming at the time it may have been a ZT issue. Since being told why he/ she was banned, we have continued to chat, yet I feel a bit awkward. Is this person a complete dirtbag who I should add to my enemies list or should I put this behaviour aside and continue the acquaintance? My gut feeling says this is a person who I would like to continue to chat with, but I also have pangs of guilt. What do you think? nickf sydney
  16. Is this a record? If not, it must be close to a PB for the most mixed metaphors in the one sentence. nickf sydney
  17. Posts like this scare the hell out of me. nickf sydney
  18. I voted and am delighted (as a conformist) that I share the same opinion as all others who have voted so far. btw, is the option YESNOYES intended for people like me who can't make up their minds? nick sydney
  19. I can't believe some of the alleged egalitarian crap espoused by some of the correspondents to this thread. I think uday was right, this can't be anything but trolling. To hold such extreme anti-tipping views (eg people who expect tips are beggars) is clearly being deliberately inflammatory imo. nickf sydney
  20. go to the top of the class. nickf sydney
  21. bzzzzzzzzzzzz. Wrong. try again. You could phone a friend. nickf sydney
  22. I'm all for tipping, when appropriate of course. If the local pizza dude delivers fast, then I reward him appropriately. And you know what? He's learnt that. Conversely, i have also given just a 5c tip to waiters/ restaurants where the service is crap. I think they got the message when I made a point of personally handing them their tip. of course, it's imperative to recognise that in a lot of countries service industry employees are on the minimum wage and tips are an integral part of their package. I think Service is the optimal word here. Good service deserves be rewarded. while I'm here, I might as well say it. It's my experience that those that harp on the most about tipping are generally the most tight fisted anyway. Discussions about tipping often provide them justification for this behaviour. nickf sydney
  23. This begs the most obvious question. nickf sydney
  24. I had a beauty the other day. RHO doubled my partner's two level opening pre-empt, I had a fistful of pd's suit and a good enough read on my LHO that he was a chance to pass the double. Sure enough he passed and when I tracked dummy with enough to make a few doubled overtricks righty asked for an undo. Bzzzz. nickf sydney
