  1. Pass is in the poll because that is what our expert (real, not BBO) opponent did at the table. It is safe to say that most people play this auction forcing to 3 of a major or 4 of a minor. For what its worth Declarer made 2s, scoring 4s,2h,0 diamonds and 2c. Our team mates eventually got end played into breaking clubs. My partner bid 3d, I bid 3h (AKQxx, AKxx, K, A10x) and pard boosted me to game. I mean him. Damn him, he stole the hand from me when he bid 2h :o We ended up +620 and won a few.
  2. In terms of showing a two suiter, different players have different agreements. My partners and I play Good/Bad Michaels Q's. With intermediate hands, we prefer to bid our suits.
  3. For what it is worth, I bid 6d at the table. My reasoning for not bidding 5h was my fear partner might play me for more than a 12 count and a void. I bid 6d to make. The hand result is 6d down 1, 5s is down 3.
  4. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=shkxxxdq109xxcakxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South 1S P 2S Double 3c 4H 4S P P 5d 5S ?
  5. [hv=d=n&v=b&s=sxhjxxxd10xxxxcjxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Opps silent North South 2c 2h(1) 2S ? 1) 2H denies an A or K and you have at most 2 Queens.
  6. The good news is 3S did end the auction. The opps collected 100 and our teammates collected 620 in 4H. Capps key point on this hand is he asked me if the opps bid 4h, what are you going to do? I said bid 4S. He says and is right that its giving the opps a two way shot on you. He says 4S is not likely to get sawed off either, well not as likely as if I bid over their 4H bid...
  7. I discussed this hand with Mike Cappaletti Jr. and am now convinced that 4S is the winning action. I voted for 3S here because thats what I bid at the table. His point is give partner K of Diamonds and Q of spades and you are on a hook for game. I bid 3S for the following reason, I know it is the opps hand and I was trying to jam their auction(taking away their game try) by bidding 3S. I was playing against expert opps but felt that they would be reluctant to carry on to 4H without knowing what each of them held....
  8. [hv=d=n&v=e&s=saj10xxhxxdaqxxxcx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Auction goes as follows (IMPS) W N E S - P 1h 1s 2h 2s(1) 2nt(2) ? 1 2S is a non constructive raise. 2 2NT is alerted and you are told forces responder to bid 3c and now allows opener to make some special game tries.
  9. [hv=d=s&v=b&s=skqxxhkqxxdqckxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP ?[/hv] I'm coming under a little flak as a playing TD and 'my rules', here's a hand where I was questioned about my disclosure and told it was "a highly unorthodox bid" What do you do here? Is it so difficult to open 1c? I know Jilly loves those NT's with stiffs, but on this hand you have no excuse as you have NO rebid problem.
  10. 1) Yes. I cannot imagine what else you would bid with the hand. 2) Since partner reversed, you have time to show him/her 6 nice diamonds, so 3d seems like the only bid.
  11. I would guess partner has a balanced hand with a NT opener that may have had some flaw to it 4-2-2-5 shape perhaps with good diamonds and poor spades?
  12. I like 4d (Splinter). That way you can feel you have gotten it off your chest.
  13. Most people would treat 2s as forcing for one round.
  14. If you pass 3s with that hand, you need to consider another game . 4H can be so wrong on any number of levels. You could easily be freezing yourself out of a game or slam in a minor. Double seems like a pretty normal bid.
  15. 4c. Just a little too much juice to bid 3nt. Though 3nt is my second choice. Slam could easily be cold.
  16. 1S is a pretty normal response for that hand. If you pass be aware that in a MP field, you are swinging.
  17. Yes, it is held where the old Chancellor Hotel used to be in Champaign.
  18. The next time you see a World Class without a star, ask them what country they represented and what event they played it!
  19. I must play in a different circle. Not many people I play against play Mini-Roman My question for the exotics is do you bother to pre alert and list reasonable suggested defenses? My experience in tournaments has been that people play these conventions for the "ambush value" of them. These methods are generally outlawed by the ACBL (which I am usually no friend of) as they are destructive. If you think about it, there is really not much of a need for opening some of these bids except for the fact that I am sure they are successful against LOL's.
  20. I really don't have much of a plan. I pass.
  21. Low Heart. Fourth from longest and strongest. It seems to work out more often that it doesn't.
  22. I play in the Illini Regional (held in Champaign, IL) every year. I have had a fair amount of success in it, but I did do one thing I had never heard of before. I won four regional events (1 Pair, 2 Swiss, and 1 KO) in one regional with completely different partners and in the case of the three team games, totally different players on each team. Anyone else ever heard of that before?
  23. As a frequent on line partner of jillybean, I know she loves to open 1nt with a stiff. The only thing she might like more is rebidding 1 or 2NT with a stiff. I never allow for her to have done it. On a serious note, the problem becomes when one partner does it and the other partner NEVER does it. She should probably be alerting her NT openers, but since I always have a doubleton, my shouldn't have to be. The problem I mentioned was that it was my understanding that both partners are supposed to play the same system.
  24. Sniff. jillybean, I thought I was your favorite partner... :)
