Would you open this hand in first seat?
redbird97 replied to phoenixmj's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
Automatic. You have easy rebids no matter what partner responds and a 12 count. -
Text book double.
-
I open 1S as I have no rebid problems. If partner bids 1NT, I raise to 2NT. That's a nice 17 with a good 5 card suit and a 10. Flip the make your spades hearts and I open 1NT because I am stuck for a good rebid over 1S.

A bad idea for one main reason. No matter what city you pick to play, you are going to have the same outrageous costs you complain about so spreading events around will do nothing except help the pros. They will figure out who is going where and plan accordingly. People need to wake up to the fact that these tournaments are really held for select groups such as the pros and their wealthy clients, juniors, and those just starting out. Those are the current "flavors" of the month.

Opening with 5 clubs and 5 spades
redbird97 replied to Liversidge's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
I typically open 1!C with hands I am not prepared with make an excursion to the 3 level on. Even when playing 2 over 1 GF, I play 1!S-2!D-3!C shows extras. -
What Does This Mean
redbird97 replied to eagles123's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion

What does your jump reverse mean?
redbird97 replied to silvr bull's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
I play jump reverses show 6-5 minimums. -
South for the 5D bid.

Double or Pass
redbird97 replied to eagles123's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Pass. I am not going to be to happy when they run to 6NT and make it. -
[hv=d=n&s=shaq109xxdaxxcaxxx]133|100|[/hv] This player (xxxxxx) heard his partner open 1d followed by a 2c over call. He now responded 7 diamonds. Diamond K onside, pard has stiff heart and Kxx ruffs out. It is my practice to never mention player names, but he defended the bid citing losing trick count. He further claimed that he has won hundreds of tournaments bidding this way. How say you panel members. [The panel says, you can not name names... , administrator]

If you are fixed, stay fixed. I bid 4S.
-
I cannot give South any heat for passing. What if Pard had Q of clubs? As for North, I know I do not have solid clubs and it is generally a good rule to trust your opps in these types of auctions.
-
4S. Am I supposed to be driving toward a slam?
-
Redouble. I do not see any other bid possible.
-
Only line I see that makes any sense is to duck a heart and win the likely continuation.
-
Well, I am glad to see that LC does agree with my double. :) It is really hard to imagine what other bid you are supposed to make here.

http://blogstogo.com/ I looked for a way to allow all to read and comment, but have not been able to figure it out. This is my first blog and so far is very frustrating. Anyone know how I can let everyone access it?
-
We play a form of RKC, not Gerber. Please don't kill me.
-
I wish I was playing ASTRO q bids... If you are not and not playing any methods to show this exact hand, I guess I would double and hope partner does not bid some number of hearts. ;)

[hv=d=n&v=n&s=sxhaqxxxxdaxcakqx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Sitting North with silent opponents you open 1H and partner responds 2H

Problem corrected. Please check out: My Bidding System I did not realize it was difficult to read. Anyway, my system is up in my new blog. Feel free to comment on it as I am always looking for constructive criticism on it. Take what ideas you like or try to play the whole thing. I have had a fair amount of success playing this. It is what I play in all my serious partnerships. If you like transfers, the section on 2 way stayman may not be of much value to you.
-
3nt. I don't like it, but don't see any other bid.
-
fine, ... but what was his partnership agreement regarding the nature of 2S (forcing / non forcing)? Just because most people play it as forcing, does not mean a specific partnership plays it that way, e.g. if you play a structure like Benjamin, in which case 2S is nonforcing. With kind regards Marlowe This would suggest a flaw in the Benjamin system.
