  1. So, today I join a table to kibitz. The first two boards that were completed before I joined displayed correctly in the "History" display. However, new hand did not get added to that display as they completed! This was a non=tourney table. A team game that I kibbed did seem to display all hands properly.
  2. Watching a team game, now the history displayed correctly, but: The lower left corner of table display showed Team1: 27 IMPs Team2: 44 IMPs Other Table: 4!cS -3 I.e. identification of which pair is Team1 or Team2 is left to the observers to figure out on their own.
  3. The display for "History"-"My Table" did not display results for a table I was kibitzing. I really wish the auction box were back in the upper right corner of the table display (would that menu button not belong on the table title bar?).
  4. You are missing something: 1. Any opening bid in a suit that is Natural, as long as it shows at least Near-AverageStrength.
  5. See http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2016/11/new-pepper-flash-installer-for-chromium-firefox/ for instructions to enable flash on chromium or firefox browsers if you do not want to use chrome (i.e. if you insist on open source only software). I can get an uptodate flash working on firefox, but I have not solved a font-size issue with regard to using firefox on Ubuntu to access BBO (since I have not heard of this issue from others, your luck may be better). I can use either chromium or chrome browsers to access BBO.
  6. If you are in Italy, the pizza will not even closely resemble what Americans expect. Generally, it is just a seasoned flat bread (and never any toppings). When I was in the army stationed in Germany in the early 70's, I was sent to a non-touristy part of northern Italy to install a radio-intercept station. One local cafe offered "Pizza Americano" on their menu. I ordered one to see what it was. Imagine a plate sized flat bread with the edges folded up to form a circular dam, with a lake of molten grease contained therein(with some mystery meats floating in it)! There was no way we were going to try to actually consume that thing.
  7. Real help not needed. Just download the file and then open it from calc! The formulas will work in any reasonable excel work-alike and calc is happy to open .xlsx files. A formula fails to properly allow for empty input, and the error message is not the exact same on excel, calc or google sheets, but once you have valid input, all will do the same thing.
  8. I do live in the Seattle area. Unfortunately not the "No sales tax" part tho. Washington very definitely has state (and local) sales tax, but does not have state income tax.
  9. Web client! I did try to "zoom", but could not seem to do that. I did, however, find a different solution. I launched BBO through Chrome instead of Firefox and got the appearance I have grown used to via Firefox on win10. Thanks for your efforts :-)
  10. After an accident with win10, I recovered by switching to Linux (part of the accident being that I cannot remember where I stashed my win10 recovery dvd!). Fortunately, one can now use the Chrome version of flash (pepper flash) with firefox under Linux. But now I have an issue with much of the text in the BBO app. It seems very small (my eyes are nearly as old as the rest of me, and that is quite old!). The issue seems to be mainly with button labels, tab labels and other such text rather than with chat text (which I have a way of resizing). Does anyone know how to deal with that?
  11. BW has now confessed that it was an april fools joke and that there was no actual injunction (they had to temporily shut down for a server change).
  12. The question by dummy did not call attention to the revoke - the answer "Oh, I see I do" did! The question by dummy did not call attention to the revoke - nor did the answer. Attention to the revoke has not happened (yet). I will not pretend to answer this.
  13. I reproduced 1eyedjack's issue even though I start with the display that barmar shows (i.e. that area comfortably showing all content and no scroll bars needed). I simply moved the split bar above chat up high enough to truncate content above it and noted that the scroll bars which should then appear are missing!
  14. I have always just closed the browser window / tab. But wait a minute - maybe that is why so many of my finesses fail!
  15. You of course may think whatever you think you think. I can relate one comparable incident from a long time ago (so might not be all that relevant) Playing in a regional open pairs my RHO opened 1 precision club. We were playing a defense where non-jump overcalls showed the suit bid and the next higher. My hand was 4333 shape with 4 diamonds and nothing but spot cards. I decided that this looked like a red two suiter and bid 1D (not very preemptive, but then my hand was a little short on playing strength). After 2 passes, opener balanced with 1H and that ended the auction. Dummy tabled about 7HCP and 4 hearts to the Q10. After cashing the HA, declarer confidently led a small heart to the 10 and was shocked when that lost to partner's jack. The director was summoned immediately. He ruled that the table result stands, but commanded me to "never again psych an artificial bid". I doubt that that particular director (who was DIC at a regional recently) will buy your thinking.
  16. My opinion (which is normally worthless): Reopen the d*** topic so that the trolls can troll there and the fools that feed trolls can feed them there (and I can go back to ignoring a silly thread) and both sets can stop flaming this thread!
  17. Even though Linux was not involved in my problem, the fix still worked. I had to change the folder location to C:/Users/Bill/AppData/Local/Temp/ but then it worked.
  18. After gritting my teeth (since I choose how I use my computer, not some program), DDS announced "Error in file download. No deals found!" then "Nodeals can be retrieved from this period." and then opened Firefox and gave me a blank page on the first tab and a list of hands (which was saved in BBO-1.html) in the second. Curious that it announced failure before Firefox even launched.
  19. I am having similar problems. Reading what all has been said, I am now leaning towards thinking that I may be confusing DDS by having multiple browser windows open with multiple tabs in each. Typically, I will have two firefox windows and one chrome window going and 2 or more tabs in each (don't ask and I won't lie  ). DDS opens a dialog that logs me in to MyHands via Firefox in a new tab and then complains about no data (the browser showing a list of hands - and that list is saved as BBOn.html where n is a number that increments with each try).
  20. -300 - not sure where you got your information on "conventional bridge scoring system" but it is wrong.
  21. I really appreciate all the replies! The actual situation was probably beyond any reasonable solution by normal agreements (i.e. does opener have the right major suit queen?). Actual hands (true spot cards this time): [hv=pc=n&s=sq93hj86da93cakqt&n=sakhat2dkqt876c92]133|200[/hv] We had at least one bidding accident (my error) and so bid the laydown 7♦ for all the wrong reasons. One other table bid the even better 7N on an even more screwed up auction ( 1N 2D; 2H 4N; 5H 7N ) 4 pairs bid to 6N (one of which found some way of failing at that contract) 4 pairs bid to 6♦ 3 pairs stopped in 3N 2 pairs stopped in 5D
  22. Gavin Wolpert wrote an article on this on Bridge Winners. http://bridgewinners.com/article/view/4-way-transfers-with-range-ask/ "Range ask" is how I have seen it named more than "size ask" but the difference in minimal. I does cost the ability to make an invitation based on opener's fit with a long club suit. It gains by eliminating the need for a fake stayman query as part of a balanced game try.
  23. [hv=pc=n&n=sakha32dkqt752c32]133|100[/hv] Nice hand (spot cards approximated) - and P opens 1N (15-17). Using 4 suit transfers (assume the BBO Advanced FD card), plan your auction. If you begin with 2N transfer to ♦, opener will call 3♣ (showing enthusiasm for [diamonds. That FD card will allow you to show slam interest with shortness (which you do not have), but is otherwise silent on continuations so please describe yours.
  24. They would not be familiar with them, but the simplicity and ease of understanding would make the needed education easier. Without education, you will certainly have some players following ACBL ftf standards and others following the standards local to them. "Please alert and explain all artificial or unusual calls" would be a reasonable announcement at the start of these tournaments.
  25. In my opinion (which may be entirely without merit), the closest thing to a worldwide standard which is fairly simple and easy to understand is to use WBF standards for play where screens are in use. I.e. alert/explain all artificial/unusual bids (even Stayman). Since UI concerns are minimized using the on-line alert procedures, do away with all exceptions that are implemented strictly to minimize UI (alert all art doubles, alert cue bids, do not stop alerting at 4 level ... ) For Pam's issue, this would mean alert forcing or semi-forcing 1N (regardless of system used) and do not alert non-forcing 1N. Actually, the difference between non-forcing and semi-forcing 1N is not really worth arguing about.
